GameStop in Philly robbed: 50 videogames and 10k taken photo
Ever have one of those days at work? You know, the kind of day where someone ties you up and steals $10,000 dollars from your place of employment? An employee at GameStop in Philadelphia had one of those today. The specifics are a bit vague, but apparently during a shift this morning a man walked into the GameStop with a gun, tied up an employee, stole 10 grand and walked out with around 50 videogames.

Thankfully, no one was hurt – except the potential owners of these fine 50 videogames. If we all used services like Steam then we wouldn’t have to worry about incidents like this. Digital copies of games can’t be stolen by gunpoint (unless done very creatively) therefore it’s obvious that digital copies are better than physical copies of games.

The suspect is described by a local ABC News outlet as “a male, wearing all black and a black mask.” No word on how a GameStop acquired $10,000 or the titles of the games that he stole.

Holy crap, that's a lot of cash.

Also, you missed the part of the story where the Gamestop employee tried to hit square to disarm the robber, but did not complete the quick-time event properly.

Who the HELL keeps 10k out front in a cash register?

Manager: "I just know we're going to get a massive amount of games in to stock up our pre-used gaming wall. I believe we will have roughly 5,000 used games come in today so make sure we have $10,000 to give out to those suckers."

My guess, because of the Black Friday/Saturday/Sunday sales, the deposits from Saturday and Sunday (which can total 10,000) were still in the safe getting ready to bring to the bank. Guy picked the perfect time to get them.

What kind of bonus will the employee get for getting tied up over his job? I worked at a movie theater that got robbed, but I was in the storeroom eating nachos when it happened and missed it all.

{ yawn } Yet another sad attempt to try to bump digital downloads as the savior to gaming. Spare us, please.

@Heretic

Hey, hey! Don't be dragging texas into this! And it's a Texan accent.

I don't see how this is big news either, gamestop's are always being targeted for stick-ups, smash and grabs, and b+e's.

@s0lesurviv0r

You know the first rule of Texas? Don't mess with it.

That GameStop was obviously a front for some more sinister operation if it's got that much cash lying around, eh? Slave trafficking, possibly rum running, or maybe they stole that money from the Waldenbooks next door?

IT is only news if the cash register dude was shot and the manager was left to drown in a pool of pre order slips and his filth.

I hate gamestop so hearing them losing cash makes my day as news.

I remember the days when they used to sell only new games, had leather couches to play neo geos on PC software besides games and it was classy and they had a better name.

I'm glad to see my hometown is getting a little recognition for something positive. If we're not busy being one of the fattest, most miserable, and unattractive cities in America, we're busy stealin' shit.
