GameStop hosting Final Fantasy XIII midnight launches photo

With any big launch, it seems like we state the obvious, but here's your confirmation -- GameStops will be holding midnight launch events for Final Fantasy XIII next week.

The events will take place next Monday, March 8 at "more than 3,200" stores nationwide. Of course, you'll want to check your local shop to verify; a list of participating stores can be found here. If your store isn't doing one, call them, complain, and threaten to pull your reserve. They love it when you do that.

Launches are said to feature the following: costume contests, trivia challenges, and an artwork contest. Most likely, it'll just be a bunch of people standing around in the cold, taking orders from frustrated and tired retail workers who would rather be home playing the game than selling it to you. But I urge you to wear your best Sazh costume, regardless.

Apparently I have to go to the Babbage's store across the street from my house where I pre-ordered FFXIII between 6 and 9pm Monday to get my "FINAL" Receipt and then take that to the Gamestop down the street at 11:45 and feel very out of place amongst fanboys and such. lol...

This better be worth it. :)

I've never been to a midnight launch for a game. That will change march 15th. The gods shall suffer:)

I'm gonna give a protip as someone who's gone to midnight launches for MGS4 and MW2: Just get it the following morning. Unless you like standing in a line like a dope until Midnight or you're one of the cities that's actually doing something for the launch like having some dude giving swag.

Last midnight release I went to was Bioshock 2. Got there at 12:10 and was able to waltz in and picked up my copy without waiting in line and breathing in the cheeto's dust cloud of my fellow gamers.

Midnight releases are kinda losing their appeal to me but having a 9-5 gig and getting older will do that to you.

US midnight launches sound way cooler than what we have over here in the UK...

Get there at 11pm, stand outside in a queue, stand there, in the cold, the occasional "(insert game here) Whooo" but other than that, very little discussion, very little interaction, just stand there, wait, wait wait. 12 comes, and slowly, very, very slowly, begin your queue shuffle into the store, around the store, and up to the counter.

notice people going to the other counter as you queue, ask around, apparently "trade ins" - WTF I did my trade ins yesterday because they say not to bring trade in's at midnight. Fuckers!

Finally buy your copy, rush home and play it till you fall asleep.

I tend to take some weed with me myself, try to park by the queue and sit in the car getting kaned, offering people in the queue a toke, just to start a conversation.

Seriously though, if you don't want to play it all night, that night, get it the next day.

thats beautiful man, i would lose a nice place in line to hang with you, i feel kinda awkward when no one is saying anything, it just makes me feel even geekier, definitely a better experience with company

As Sexy has pointed out unless the midnight launch is a sweet multiplayer game to play with your buddies all night long I really do not see the point.

I've only done 2 midnight releases and that was to ensure they didn't lie about running out of preorder bonuses. I really don't trust gamestop employees with that stuff. With that said, ill probably just pick it up on Tuesday with yakuza 3. Not many preorders for yakuza 3 I'm guessing...

I remember they did one for FFXII too. We got there about ten minutes after midnight. There was one person there, excitedly jabbering at some really peeved looking employees.

The only midnight launches that I've been to that had any amount of people at all were for the WoW expansions.

@Corduroy Turtle - You got me. I do.

@ MeGrimlockKing - i wish there were more people like you round here, the response you get is either, sure i'll have a toke and fuck off back to my spot in the queue - or - uh, NO thanks!

We once took a laptop with us (for the GTA4 launch) and watched a film (the one about Bender from Futurama) in the queue, that was pretty cool and we ended up chatting to people and stuff that time.

man, it would be so cool if there was something like a midnight launch where all the toid community could get together, would be amazing to queue up with you guys, turn it into a bit of a party.

I'd probably get punched by some of the Xbox guys though. ; )

Midnight launches are only fun when a bunch of your friends pre-order the same game, and you can all go together at the same time. As eager as I am to play FFXIII, it'll just have to wait until the morning.

Btw, does anyone think they'll be quite a few fanboy hussy fits thrown in lines around the nation on Monday night?Multi-platform launches always seem to encourage a little bitching, and there's a lot of potential for this one to be worse than most.

I meant "hissy" fits, but hussy fits sound equally entertaining.

I work at a gamestop, but am not scheduled for that day. So I can just walk past the line and get in at 11:58 and walk out as the doors unlock for everyone else at 12:01. Employee perks, how I love thee.

Fun fact: the gamestop *across the street* from the Gamestop I reserved it at is having a midnight launch. You know, the shitty, run down one that no one ever goes to because it's across the street from the nice one with good employees*. FML.

*Not to say across the street gamestop doesn't have good employees, but it looks kind of crummy and I've only been in there once and there were lots of crying kids.

*Fun Fact*

yea, those midnight-launches at Gamestop? they don't pay their employees extra for that, which is total bullsh*t. if you're a sales rep and you're scheduled for a midnight opening, you're expected to "hang around" after the store closes proper until you can resume your shift. and managers, because they're salaried, get squat.

Get off work, cash my check, drop the rent, pick up FFXIII next Friday for $50. from my buddy, use the remaining amount on bills, smoke up and play. That is my priorities for this game.

Gives me sometime to play the Bad Company 2 campaign.
