GameStop gets fancy Way of the Samurai 3 bonus item photo

After a long wait for its release, Way of the Samurai 3 will finally be in stores for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on October 13. Yes, this is the same game that was released in Japan back in 2008.

Whatever the hold up was, it's finally here. If you plan on picking the game up, you might consider heading to your local GameStop or EB Games. The game's North American publisher UFO Games Interactive has let us know that the retailer will be carrying an exclusive bonus item -- a "The Art and Strategy of the Warring States" DVD!

The disc comes in its own separate case and box, which means that it likely won't be packed with the game. So be sure to remind your friendly GameStop/EB Games employee to give you your damned bonus item. Damn it.

YEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

Heads up to all: Not every GameStop is even carrying Way of the Samurai 3! And even then, you cannot preorder for in store pick up!

Be sure to call ahead to your local GameStop. They should all know by now if they're even getting the game.

If you want this and are willing to deal with GameStop's overpriced shipping, order this online and have it shipped to you. In Store Pickup for pre-orders is worthless if you want any sort of bonus item. I'm still shaking my fist at how they handled my pre-order of Muramasa.

@Tubatic

At $40 bones, I could really go for that, but I've been burned by samurai games on the 360 before. You wouldn't happen to have a blog comparing WotS3 with Kengo: Legend of the 9 would you?

Which by the way, do we know of any differences between the 360 and PS3 version? I seem to remember there being some DLC content in one version in Japan or something.

The 360 version has "new elements" (whatever that means) and the mentioned DLC. The PS3 is going to get "Way of the Samurai 3 Plus", with some extra stuff.

I do believe the PS3 and 360 are getting the same DLC, which was released with the 360 version in Japan.

@ZeroTolo

If that Kengo game is anything like Kengo on the PS2, you're looking at an action game (Wots3) with a story line versus a progressing fighting game (Kengo). Kengo is the spiritual successor to Bushido Blade, which really is a shame. Wots is more about the adventure.

My opinion of Kengo on PS2 was moderate to low, while my opinion of WotS is high to very high. For whatever that's worth.

Oh ho ho, Tubatic my not-known-at-all-internet-not-quite-friend, you simply must taste this delicious fail.

Yeah it's weird. A lot of the games for you "hardcore" gamers can not be reserved at GS any more. You either have to keep calling your local store or get lucky during a visit. This game you'll have to get lucky with.

Well now... If Way of the Samurai 3 is as good as the other two (and I'm pretty confident in thinking so), I'd say that you owe yourself some WotS. ASAP.

Different types of swords, learning moves through use, open palm fighting, NPCs, branching story with at least a dozen endings, blunt side attacks (if you really don't want to kill), forging your own sword from parts that you find, companion characters

... I think its going to be hot!

I'm intrigued, because I enjoyed the first one (never even heard that there was a second one made), but I seem to recall that I flipped back and forth between "this is fantastic and unlike anything I've ever played" and "what is this crap" as I played it.

Maybe I'll give this one a rental (if that's even possible, heh) first before I commit.
