Screens from the GC demo would suggest this plays more like Heavenly Sword than Enslaved and the style buttons are nothing like DMC.
I've little hope for this game based on that, not because Dante looks like Tameem.
Revengeance is what a DMC game should play like, not like this.
Maybe if the design was more familiar( you're gonna tell me "so what about the white hair," try saying " so what if mario shaved his mustache" or "so what if kratos turned into a angsty teenager with spikey hair") or if they tone down his abrasive nature( sometimes less is more) I would be more accepting. I will play it at some point but not a dime of it will go to capcom.
"Oh, gamers are still bitching? What a surprise"
Inorite?! You should have seen what the first guy to be a whiny bitch in the post said; "Oh, gamers are still bitching? What a surprise"
Wait a second...
It looks really fucking good, but it isn't Devil May Cry.
I'll redbox it first. If i like it? I'll rent it from GF. If I love it? I'll buy it on a sale. I love NT, but this isn't Devil May Cry.
Well, if this turn bad at least i have my Bayonetta and in a few months MGR: Revengeance =D
The real question is, do I trust Ninja Theory to make a "must buy" video game? Not yet.
The game feels alright so far, but I'd have to play through a full version at least 2-3 times (like every other DMC game) to see if it holds up as a technical action game, and not a "one and done" affair. 30 FPS is an early warning flag.
That's what seperates the DMC series from the rest of the scrapheap. Specifically DMC 3, which is possibly still the most refined technical action game of all time.
I'm really hoping that they can get through all the bitchy DMC fans to address any legitimate concerns people may have about continuity and respect to the series.
But hey it has shiny grafix and platforming so who cares.
It's just a bit insulting that Capcom decided to throw everything that I and many others love out the window. There was absolutely no need for a reboot. DMC is one of Capcom's best selling franchises moving a solid 11 million in sales over 4 games (Well 5 if you count DMC 3: Special Edition). The only Capcom series that beat it out are Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Megaman... That's right, all series that have been running around for nearly 20 years with dozens and dozens of titles. DMC has not performed poorly for Capcom at all.
The only way I can explain how I feel to people is what if Nintendo decided to reboot Mario, making it all gritty (Think Mario turned Gears of War). Regardless of if the gameplay was good, you're probably going to feel more than a little put off by it and I swear to you people would be saying "This isn't Mario...". The disconnect here is most of the gaming community isn't as attached to old Dante as the DMC fanbase is, where as Mario has an attachment with everyone at this point. If you were as attached as us you'd be more than a little pissed off with Capcom.
Having people say "Ohh you're just mad because there's no white hair" only adds to the rage because that simply isn't the reason. I don't know of any DMC fans who are happy about this reboot. The only positive words I've heard are from people who never gave a shit about DMC to begin with.
Try to understand this. What Dale is saying here is that it PLAYS *just* like a DMC game should. It feels *exactly* like a proper sequel should in terms of gameplay and controls. The only difference between this game and all the DMC games before it is how it *looks*. Period. Anyone who says different is "wrong". You wanna know how I know? Because they haven't played the game. They don't how the game *plays*. They don't know how the controls feel. All they know is how it looks *looks*.
Let's be honest with ourselves. The only reason any DMC "fans" are rending their garments in agony over this game is the fact that Dante isn't wearing a *red* coat with *white* hair and the game isn't made on the *exact* same engine by the *exact* same team as all the others. To deny this is to deny that the sun rises in the east.
DmC is to Devil May Cry as Metroid: Other M is to Metroid.
@Pencoin & Lord of the Thunder
Glad to see some support for inane ranting for once. XD
look out, you might be called racist for preferring something that isn't western :P
looks okay, for some reason the attacks still feel weak imo.
i'll have to see more of this :P
First of all saying it's "okay" is hardly positive feedback... Also I've never spoken to you before so frankly my above statement was true when I wrote it.
@Lord of the Thunder
Jesus... I knew it was bad but I didn't know they made it so shallow that spaming single hits was optimal...
@Nicodemus
DMC 2 "played" like a DMC game but that doesn't mean it wasn't a steaming pile of crap. I'll wait till either I get my hands on this game or until community vets can verify it holds up. Until then everything I've seen makes it look spammy, like there isn't much thought into the way the hits are laid out. It just doesn't look very deep.
and is it just me or are all the people who dislike this harping on like...2 points...?
Dead horse much?
In an odd parallel to DMC3, Vergil seems more interesting than Dante again.
I'm totally fine with this reboot. It's a weird direction, sure, but it might work well for the series. Honestly, I'm happy for ANY DmC follow up at this point, considering I was worried the series was dead after Bayonetta showed up and blew it out of the water.
my point is he will probably like this game. it's been rebooted to be more appealing to normal western people. mass market appeal, homogenisation etc. while the gameplay takes a back seat. why am i not allowed to resent that?
to be fair NT have clearly listened to fans and made positive changes where they could, so as usual, i am liking the look of the game more every time i see it, but i still doubt it will turn out to be as good as it used to be for me.
This game has FIVE ways for you to mix up your attacks (gun, sword, Devil Bringer-type grappling hook, and the new devil and angel powers). It has a very similar combo system to the other games (not to mention many of the *exact same moves*), and according to this article the combat is being sped up and refined exponentially as development goes on. What part of all that doesn't make the game seem deep to you?
To be fair, a lot of people are comparing it to old games. Devil May Cry 3 had TWELVE different weapons, all of which could be mix-matched and comboed into with the dynamic weapon-switch system.
Additionally, it had five different styles that absolutely changed how you handled every single one of those weapons.
There were literally hundreds of different playstyles available in that game. It set the series apart from nearly every other action game on the market, even today. Nearly everyone I know beat DMC 3 with different playstyles.
In the grand scheme of things, five seems average. To many action fans, it seems below average. I can see people being apprehensive -- I don't think that's unreasonable at all. Obviously we'll see when it finally comes out!
Because this way it's completely free. Full refund after one week for used titles at a certain retailer...
