I'm sure a fair few of you have seen this little video before. Weird as Hell, but one I find strangely compelling. Satan's a bit of an arsehole, all things given, but I think I'm on his side with this one. Also, I've been taking this quasi-narcotic medication for some jetlag-induced illnesses ... it makes my weekend interesting.
I'm back in the Games of the Week saddle, but I'd like to thank Samit for helping me out this past couple of weekends. With that out of the way, let's get this show on the road, because I am tripping balls and need to get to bed. Hit the jump.
Chad: I played nothing but Fallout 3 this week, which I am loving more and more the longer I play it. Like I did in Grand Theft Auto IV, I have decided to be one of those obnoxiously good characters that is nice to everyone he meets. You want me to retrieve the ink on a gigantic, challenging sidequest to make a fake Declaration of Independence so I don't have to bother attacking you, stealing the original document, and therefore becoming a bad person? No problem! You want to compromise and become friendly, helpful vampires since I am not the confrontational, cannibalistic type? Sounds good! Seriously, my karma is so high I think even the game is annoyed with me.
Jim: I've mostly been playing a game that involves my immune system, unfamilar American germs, and jetlag. It's a lethal combination but these pills really are the dog's bollocks.
In terms of videogames, I've been persevering with Sonic Unleashed, just because the fun stuff really is worth wading through the shit for. I also gave up on Homecoming because it was balls. To try and remind myself of what thoroughly enjoyable games are, I also started playing Half-Life 2 again. It's like a good adventure movie, just something you need to keep coming back to now and then. Outside of that, plenty of Left 4 Dead, mostly playing the campaign with my other half, but rocking the Dtoid crew whenever there are enough about.
Oh, and "make people without avatars flip out and post silly things" is another classic game I've been picking up lately.
Topher: I finally closed the book on Persona 3 after 86 hours. Finishing a huge RPG like that is both sad and liberating, and as much as I loved and enjoyed the game, I'm kinda happy to be free from its clutches. Once it was over I realized I had nothing new to get into, so I replayed Spyro the Dragon for PSX. I'm still not sure how that happened. Oh, and I beat my old Super Stardust HD score. That was fun, too.
Conrad: Prince of Persia, mostly, which is short on challenge but big on charm. And, for some reason, I felt compelled to fire up Super Mario Bros. yesterday. It's really amazing how well that game endures.
Samit: Woo, Spyro! Man, I loved those first three games on the PS1.
In NHL 09, I finally took the league points lead from Marian Gaborik of the Minnesota Wild...and I also scored my 100th career goal! I did it in 76 games, which I think is pretty awesome. Otherwise, I just got a little further in my Rock Band 2 career -- I now have Chicago and Montreal available to me. Also, after reading Nick's sparkling review of Prince of Persia, I've officially chosen it over Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet (though again, I fully intend to pick up those two games eventually).
And in other amazing news, the copy of Katamari Damacy that I ordered on Black Friday from Amazon for $4.95 finally arrived! I haven't played it yet, but my excitement is slightly tempered by the fact that, since the game came out in 2003, it doesn't appear to support widescreen or progressive scan (in other words, it's probably going to look shitty in 480i on my HDTV). Hopefully, the PS3's upscaler can make it look serviceable.
Topher: I've played Katamari on my PS3, it doesn't look bad. Er, well, it looks as good as it's going to get, anyway. Blocky Saturn graphics, etc. But who gives a shit what it looks like when you're having that much FUN.
Colette: Prince of Persia has taken up most of my time this week, although last night I did play some Rock Band 2 and Gitaroo Man. I'm frothing at the mouth for Persona 4, so expect to see that as my game of the week for the next two months. Boring for you, I know, but I expect it'll be pretty enthralling to me. :)
Jonathan: Got SPRay in the mail yesterday, tried playing it for about an hour, and it was the least fun I've had playing a videogame...ever? God, getting through this sucker for review is going to hurt. I just have to hope it gets less terrible as you collect more bodily juices or something.
Also picked up Commando: Steel Disaster for $15. I like it more than Metal Slug 7, which is saying a lot. Finally, spent more than a few hours with Animal Crossing City Folk. It's still the most relaxing videogame ever (except for when you're trying to catch a Coleocanth. That's a fisherman's hell.)
Colette: Oh god, how could I forget: RESIDENT EVIL 5 DEMO. FUCKING. AMAZING.
Pulling down a starship should be hard, but nto because of vague/ innacurate tooltips and stupid level design.
All told, I'll probably buy it cheap later.
More Fable II and got back into Saints Row II for a bit. Both are great games, and I feel like Fable II is my personal game of the year.
It freaked me and my skinny, sort-of-black ass out the first time I saw it, and it's freaking my fat, sort-of-black ass out right now.
Now it's back to work and playing games on the weekends only again. With everything getting put away for non-stop Persona 4.
I bought an xbox with fallout 3.
I just got Bioshock, and Dead Space.
I bought Chrono trigger, Metal Slug 7, the DS KORG program, and flowers.
I just beat CT and D. Space.
Say what you will, but I'm having a good ol' time.
That and not playing some Sonic games on my computer to get footage for the RetroforceGO vids I do. I'm trying to actually make it to where there isn't a break every 5 minutes in which I've actually succeeded with over 20 minutes of straight footage. so hopefully it'll come out looking pretty well.
Also stepping up to harder drum songs on Rock Band 2 and of course fully submitting to the will of the horde whenever I get 20 invites demanding that I play Left 4 Dead.
Also, I started Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Because, you know, fuck playing new games like everyone else.
Oh, also Korg DS-10 arrived from Amazon, and if I put some real time in that it's going to be a blast. There seems like a ton of possibility with that thing, and the demo songs did a good job of getting me psyched up. I have 0 musical training but I've knocked out a few good tunes in the Game Boy Camera's DJ mode before, and Korg DS-10 is basically that times a hundred thousand. It's daunting but not obtuse.
That's really about all I've played. No More Heroes, Persona 3 FES, and Shadow of the Colossus all came from Amazon's recent sales as well, but I don't know when I'll tear into those.
The first two Fallouts are incredibly difficult for me to get into, unfortunately. I keep trying, but I need to explore every goddamned inch of Fallout 3 before anything else happens.
A bit of Bioshock the 2nd time through as well.
I think it's probably the best depiction of Satan that I've ever seen. It's truly horrifying, but makes perfect sense at the same time.
Thanks for posting that.
Oh yeah...video games...I've been playing Rock Band 2 mostly since it's finally out here...it's so much better than Guitar Hero: World Tour and using the GH:WT drum kit is pretty awesome...though some fills can be a bitch due to it forcing you to use the hi-hat.
Playing too many games lately, like I just got PoP and am getting slightly bored if it near the end and yeah, a lot of Fallout 3 on my second play through (megaton got what it deserved, the stupid derps).
Tomb Raider is awesome though.
Also I've been doing some progress in Fallout 3. At first I wasnt impressed, but the more I play it the better it gets. Just like Chad, I'm being an obnoxiously good character. But I'm going to make a satanical evil character soon.
