Sesame Street turned 40 last week. That show used to be pretty awesome.
As for this week, we played some videogames. Some of these games were better than others. Out of everybody, I think Nick Chester probably had it best. I can't wait to get my hands on Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles in a few days. That new tofu mode looks so fantastic.
How about you? What did you play this week? What do you wish you were playing?
Brad Rice: Been playing some more BlazBlue now that I have more people to actually play with in person, and getting my ass seriously kicked by Nu. I'm enjoying playing through Modern Warfare 1 again -- and actually plan on completing it instead of just ending halfway through for some unknown reason.
Jim Sterling:Left 4 Dead 2 is my big weekend game. Me and the wife have been rocking the campaign, although the AI is worse than the last game for some reason, so always make sure you get four people. It's really bloody good and more stressful than the last one, but you're going to have to wait for our review to know more.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has of course been my main jam. You've read the review by now, so you already know what I think of it. In order to make way for L4D2 and MW2, I beat Borderlands on Tuesday. Absolutely horrible ending for such a great game. A ludicrously stupid boss followed by a three second "That's it, fuck off." A total let-down after what was a terrific experience. Still, I had loads of fun with the shooting and looting, so I look forward to the inevitable sequel.
Oh, and I played EyePet. That game gave me a headache.
R3y: Rocking New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Assassins Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and of course Modern Warfare 2! Breezing through all of them for video reviews.
Nick Chester:Left 4 Dead 2, Super Mario Bros. Wii, Modern Warfare 2, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Need for Speed: NITRO, LittleBigPlanet PSP, and some other stuff I'm forgetting. Videogames! I play them sometimes.
Topher Cantler: Still trying desperately to escape the grip of Forza 3 so I can play other things, and managed to start digging into Nostalgia for DS. It's simultaneously a very typical but very different RPG, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it yet. But so far so good, and you can look forward to a full review soon to find out whether that good continues.
Jordan Devore: Played Modern Warfare 2 until my eyes melted. Now I'm in the recovery process, hoping they'll be healed before I do it all over again next week with New Super Mario Bros. Wii (worst name ever).
Fronz: I've taken a break from DotA lately, and as much as I'd like to get into Heroes of Newerth, I just can't bring myself to relearn the 100ish items' new names and art, AND the dozens of hero clones and modifications. It sucks seeing Steam grow to such large proportions and deeply satisfying user consideration, while Battlenet has completely gone to shit for many years, and seeing Blizzard refuse to take even an iota of their gold mine to fix it since there's no profit involved in redeeming it. It's pretty sad, yet fulfilling, to see the leader of the DotA mod now working for Valve. Good job, Blizzard.
The recent Legend of Zelda series game debate got the best of me this week, and last night I found myself hunting down all my lost Gamecube cables so that I could replay Wind Waker. I'm hoping I'm the victim of only one nostalgia replay, because I never finished all of Twilight Princess, and I have a feeling I'm going to be playing that next. I was really ecstatic with all the page-long comments in the debate, and to see some even post Cblogs as their responses. Fanboy-theme or not, it's fun seeing people get so excited about games. A lot of them reminded me how impressive Majora's Mask's design was, so I might even replay that later this Winter.
Oh yeah! And tonight I'll be diving into the Torchlight level editor! I should use Mikey's comic as reference art, and change the melee class character into Brad Nicholson. :)
Jonathan Ross: I've played pretty much nothing but Dragon Age the entire week.
Josh Tolentino: Despite my import copy of Bayonetta calling to me, I've been playing Red Faction: Guerrilla. Through that, I found out I'm quite obsessive about not destroying too many buildings, because I feel guilty when driving past all that ruined Martian real estate. I sure wish Volition would patch the Reconstructor tool from the multiplayer modes into the campaign.
Besides that I ran some tests on my laptop to see how gaming-capable it was beyond eroge and Plants vs. Zombies. Verdict: I'm actually better at playing Call of Duty: World at War now that it runs in slow motion. I might go back to Modern Warfare, or try my hand at Dragon Age and see how that pans out. At least, until I build a new rig come January. Truly, this is the age of seven-to-ten-frames-per-second.
Matthew Razak: MW2 single-player. I don't really do multiplayer so I just have the special ops things to do now. It's very exciting. Getting NSBWii too, so I guess I'll be playing that as well.
Conrad Zimmerman: My woman has been home sick all week and has only been well enough to play Borderlands, so I went through the entire game start to finish in a three-player system link session during the course of the week. It was epic, right up until the final confrontation (as Jim has already addressed).
In the midst of all of that, I managed to sneak in a little bit of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Very enjoyable if not without a heavy sense of doom lingering throughout it. Still not a huge fan of the guns in this one for some reason, however, and I can't figure what's bugging me since they're pretty much the same ones as last time.
Played a bit of Modern Warfare 2 and, just as with its predecessor, got about a mission into single-player and went right to Team Deathmatch. Despite not being a fan of huge multiplayer gameplay, I can completely understand the allure of it in this title and have enjoyed being shot repeatedly.
Ben PerLee: Been rocking Zelda Four Swords with the whole set-up and everything. Forget Ocarina of Time, forget Wind Waker. This is the best Zelda of all time. Actually, I wish they would just port the damn thing to WiiWare. With DS support.
Chad Concelmo: This week I played Modern Warfare 2 and its awesome set pieces, a little more of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, and OMG NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII IS SO AMAZING!
Jonathan Holmes: Playing Modern Warfare Reflex for review since Tuesday. I don't totally hate it, which is a relief.
As of this second, I just returned from the New Super Mario Bros Wii launch event in NYC, which involved 8 hours of bus riding over a 24 hour period. Barely had time to play the game since I got back, but for the hour or so that I've put in so far, it's incredible. I forgot how big of a game changer it is for Mario to have his butt stomp from Super Mario 64 and his triple jump from Donkey Kong GB in a 2D platformer.
Also played Exitebike: World Rally, which also has enough new stuff to make it feel like a game changer.
Ah crap, I can't believe I said "game changer". Twice.
Double PR-speak for the fail.
Samit Sarkar: I spent the week playing Uncharted 2, and I beat it earlier tonight. Man, what a game. It's easily the best game I've played this year -- I'd really have to nitpick if someone asked me to criticize it. I haven't played Modern Warfare 2 yet, but Naughty Dog sure can put together some kick-ass set pieces, providing enthralling experiences the likes of which I've rarely seen.
I also played a bunch of Uncharted 2 multiplayer, taking on both the cooperative and competitive modes. I'm up to level 14 or 15, and already, I'm chomping at the bit for more co-op missions (I've played each of the three missions on the disc many times). And there's nothing like getting the "Kick Off" or "Pull Down" medals in the competitive multiplayer game types. They're so demeaning!

Meet the rest of the team
Dragon Age. I'm almost done with my first playthrough. It's my favorite Bioware RPG at this point. I got Overlord for $1.50 from Steam. Also played Castlevania NES for the first time. Also Punch-Out!!! for Wii.
I got Left 4 Dead 2 tomorrow on PC, Assassin's Creed 2 on Tuesday, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii on Wednesday.
(also, as I'm typing this I'm watching AMC's new Prisoner remake. As the original Patrick McGoohan series is one of my all time top 5 favorite TV shows ever, I CANNOT PRAY hard enough that it doesn't suck. BE SEEING YOU)
Are you kidding me? That show still is awesome! Last week Oscar and his girlfriend took a shit on Fox News! NO LIE! Look it up! Sesame Street is my shit.
Anyways video games: I beat ODST and Prince of Persia. Gotta say I have very mixed feelings about both and look forward to minireviewing them both. Next up is Bully and Borderlands/Band Hero/Street Fighter IV. Depends on what Gamefly surprises me with but Bully is definite.
I changed over ISPs and I got downgraded from a wireless router to just a regular ethernet one. So I didn't have internet since I had to share the ethernet time until I went out and bought a new wireless router.
That means I had time to play games instead of rotting my brain on the internet. I beat Mass Effect, Braid and Band of Bugs this week. Played Operation Darkness, Indigo Prophecy and Bionic Commando: Rearmed on Super Easy (I really can't play platformers without a jump button)
@ MkShiranui - If you don't like Portal, can you AT LEAST say that you like GlaDOs? Please...?
Made some serious progress in both Dissidia and Star Ocean: TLH this week...still nowhere near being done with either of them. That's okay though, I'm loving it.
I also started Cave Story, man that's a fun little game. Pretty pumped for the WiiWare release!
Modern Warfare 2. I played it in episodes to make it seem like the game is longer, and to my surprise it wasn't that short except for ending. It really felt rushed, I could see three more missions squeezed in before you take over as (SPOILER)Soap(/SPOILER). Anyway, great game with fun multiplayer and all those Special Ops missions, I think it could last you few good weeks if you're not rushing it. Out of ten, I give it an eight.
I've spent the week playing L4D in preparation for L4D2, the midnight launch can't come soon enough. Going for all the endings in Chrono Trigger DS too. Also, I envy anyone who can play NSMBW; I won't have access to my Wii for a while now. :(
L4D2 Demo, mostly just to listen to "Re: Your Brains" on the jukebox in the first chapter. I love Jonathon Coulton.
I was going to play Halo 3 for the first time in ages, but the disc wasn't in the case. I may have left it over at my friend's house, along with my Xbox 360's HDMI cable.
Beat Arkham Asylum JUST IN TIME to leave the house and pick up MW2, then proceeded on a two-day long binge of it. Single player was as bombastic as I had hoped for (Though nothing as OMG as the 'nuke' moment from the first one in my eyes), and multiplayer was pretty fun too, which is odd since I never got into MW1's multiplayer. Shame I haven't gotten to play it since Tuesday though. The rest of my family seems to be glued to it, all my brothers are somewhere in the 30-40 range already...
Anywho, aside from that, I've gotten my rhythm gaming refresher course with a steady diet of Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 5. I swear, partying, drinking, and Rock Band will just never get old for me. Also had some Geometry Wars 2 co-op going on (Don't play that game while drinking, it's nuts), and had some REALLY heated Guilty Gear XX #Reload matches. I'll never be able to quit GG, even if BlazBlue's the prettier, better version...
@vApathyv
Guilty Gear is better than BlazBlue, don't believe the hype.
Maybe not by the time Continuum Shift hits though.
On topic, I played a bit of Uncharted and a bit of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. I also played a lot of Netflix Instant Streaming Disc.
PUNCH-OUT!! on Wii. God, this game has so much personality! I love what they did with Don Flamenco, as well as everyone else. Never played much Super Punch-Out but Aran Ryan is also really fucking amusing. And Disco Kid is a lot cooler than I expected. Beating the shit out of people is fun.
Bit of Borderland, MW2 and Ass Creed 2. Also i've being play fix the broken Xbox then give up and get a cheap second hand one only to fine it's a banned console.
Still stuck on Beldr in Devil Survivor, and I honestly think this is the 5th or 6th time that I got demonically gang raped and because of that I'll be going back to the first strategy I had. And that's it aside from some brief interludes in Bleach Blade of fate and Dark Soul, both of which are surprisingly good, and I somehow got through hal of the single player in MW2.
@FalconReaper - If you're having trouble with the real Beldr fight, then you don't have the item that exploits his one weakness. Talk around town.
Been playing Phantasy Star Zero and recently finished Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.Surprised this KH is so underrated, its much better than the console games, but then "thinking bad, buttonmash and Sora good" seems to be the consensus elsewhere. I liked the de-emphasis and mission based gameplay. Plus it tied up the story pretty nice and neat.
Phantasy Star Zero is a return to the roots of PSO. It is a crime how little coverage this one is getting. They scrapped the nonsense from Phantasy Star Universe and brought back the style of play found in PSO Blue Burst. That and this time they did the story mode right, it has online play and Mags are back, too.
Totally hooked, I can barely look at Phantasy Star Portable now. Sure, PS Portable is prettier and has some nice character customization, but I'll gladly trade all of that for what the DS version has. I can wait for PS P2 to get it right.
beat Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (great game, awful ending.), got back into Retro Game Challenge and played through Guadia Quest from start to finish (don't ask, I don't even know myself.), I got Tekken 6 and have been desperately trying to learn how to play a 3D fighter for once (besides Soul Calibur).
I did also buy Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on XBLA, but I've only played a few hours of it. it is an amazing game, though.
I've been playing almost nothing but Torchlight. I played a little bit of Half Minute Hero and some Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time on DS.
"And there's nothing like getting the "Kick Off" or "Pull Down" medals in the competitive multiplayer game types. They're so demeaning!"
Don't forget the "Double Down" medal, for different reasons obviously.
After beating Fever Recovery Extreme, I've managed to get back to STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl which is has been made lot more playable with the STALKER Complete 2009 mod.

Downloaded and played a bit of Braid. Great game but I really wasn't in the mood for it.

Also, echochrome. That's a cool weekend lounge sort of game.
"Me and the wife..."
Would it not be "The wife and me.." or "My wife and me" be more appropriate?
Played Torchlight and Touhou for the week. But can't wait to play MW2.
I was going to play Halo 3 for the first time in ages, but the disc wasn't in the case. I may have left it over at my friend's house, along with my Xbox 360's HDMI cable.
The usual MW2, and TF2 and like 75% through Batman: Arkham Asylum. I'm also getting ready for L4D2.
You know what I'm talkin' about!!!
All I've been playing is the Battlefield 2 demo. On lowest settings :(
Enjoying both immensely!

If you're going to correct someone, at least be right about it.
"My wife and I" would be correct.
But, no one cares about that grammar rule, anyways. :-)
also i remember an episode brought to us by the letter "B" and they sang "Let It Be" as "Letter B"

No, I got the Devil's Fuge, and I still get my ass handed to me
