I am pretty sure I've used this video in a previous post, but I can't think of any new video to post this week. So, have a ridiculously old video from a meme that never quite caught on as well as it should, with Adolf Hitler singing "Sex Bomb" and it's oh-so very funny and everybody laughs. How wonderful.
Speaking of the National Socialist Party, we played videogames this week. For crying out loud, hit the jump and find out which ones we did.
Bennett: Playing Cursed Mountain for review and loving it. It's a perfect hybrid of everything I loved about Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame. I can't wait to see where the story goes.
Yesterday I also played some Super Mario World with Niero and that was pretty awesome.
Razak: I've been attempting to 100 percent the Metroid Prime Trilogy which is going very, very slowly. I still love the games though. I remember the maps being much harder to navigate, but maybe that's just me. I've also never understood the backtracking complaints leveled at the game. I love running through the world and I think going through it multiple times is not only something you do in Metroid games, but something that makes the world feel much more involved.
Gutierrez: Tossing on my PS3 fanboy hat for this one. Currently playing and WILL FINISH, Silent Hill Homecoming, Arkam Asylum, Bioshock (replaying on the PS3), Ratchet & Clank.
Also, I am so in love with the redesign and the awesomeness of the new hardware that I've decided to buy all multi platform games on PS3. Fed up with Xbox clunkiness and fail rate.
=)
Sarkar: I got Batman: Arkham Asylum on Thursday, and it's all I've been playing. I keep doing awesome, bad-ass things that make me yell out, "I AM THE GODDAMN BATMAN," and that's one of the many things I love about the game. The last thing I completed was the second Scarecrow encounter -- damn, they've been grand.
Holmes: But R3y, what about when the 360 Slim comes out in a few months? Then the Wii Slim-Plus? Then the PS3 i-Slim-lite-plus? What will happen to your poor PS3 Slim then?
Did I mention I accept hand-me-downs?
As for games, got the updated GBA emulator for the Wii's Homebrew Channel, and have been replaying Mother 3 and Rhythm Tengoku (and yes, I own the original carts for both. Don't sick Nintendo on me). Unfortunately, the save files from both games didn't transfer over to this new emulator, so I had to start from scratch. No big deal though, because both games are worth playing again from the beginning. This new emulator doesn't seem to lag at all, makes the timing-sensitive gameplay of both titles much more manageable.
The big letdown for me this week was Final Fantasy: Dissidia. After reading SepherothX and Ckarasu's inspired cblogs about the demo, I really thought I'd learn to enjoy it. So far, not so good. You know how in an RPG, your characters start off really weak, and can only do one or two different attacks? Yeah, Dissidia's the same way, but it's a fighting game. Just imagine playing Street Fighter II for two hours with Ryu before he learned how to do more than one punch and one kick (let alone a shoryuken) and you'll get what I mean.
My other big purchase this week was Metroid Prime Trilogy. Great games. I still think Echoes is the best. And what's with people bagging on the multiplayer? With four people, and a big TV, it's totally fun. Don't know what more you could have wanted it to do.
Also played some No More Heroes, and pretended it was No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. I'm so jealous of those of you who will be playing NMH2 next week, ya bums. I expect a full report from all of you.
Finally, stuck with my regular Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Game Center CX 2 routines, but I managed to get myself to only play Animal Crossing every other day, instead of my regular daily habit. Recovery is a long road, but with a lot of time and energy, I think I can eventually break this habit.
Concelmo: I finished Shadow Complex and, yup, still think it's pretty much the best game of the year. Also played Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the Xbox 360. I was not going to share that information with the world, but I realized I have to embrace my love of terrible games. Yes, I played Half-Blood Prince, world. And yes it was horrible. But I loved it, okay? I LOVED IT!
Sterling: Played C.O.R.E on the DS. It's terrible. Played Warriors Orochi 2 on the PSP. It's alright. Played Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's pretty great. Did nothing else with my time.
Ross: I haven't really played anything because I've had Scotty over. Only thing I've had time for has been the new Layton game, which is amazing.
Cantler: Like Rey, I've also been playing Silent Hill: Homecoming, except I'm NOT going to finish it, because it suuuucks. instead I played Mainichi Issho, Super Puzzle Fighter, Lumines Supernova, MvC2 and a little Dead Rising. Someone please recommend to me a horror game that realizes rusty walls, locked doors and crippled character movement aren't scary.
Villasenor: I didn't get to play anything this week because school started.
Chester:Guitar Hero 5, Borderlands all week, and I can't say anything about either of them right now.
Here's what I can talk about: Katamari on the Android. Wow, what a pile of shit that is. (That's official videogame blogger jargon right there.) Even at $2.99, I can't recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, my will is weak and I purchased it while sitting in a doctor's waiting room. Insurance doesn't cover crap mobile games, apparently.
Started playing Sins of a Solar Empire and I am very confused, but it's still great fun. Also played some BlazBlue locally with a friend, damn that game is awesome.
Droplitz, Persona 4 (my first time, thanks Destructoid for your relentless love for the game that forced me to buy it.), Fallout, Droplitz, and more Droplitz.
Well, I started attending an archeology class, which Prof. Layton is supposed to be teaching instead, he is in a quest searching for the diabolical box whatever that is..
P.S. Professor Layton is the most awesome super magnificent game ever! Woo!
Arkham Asylum (with some Killer7 on the side (it's about damn time I finished that game)), and I fucking love it. It looks to be one of the most consistently great games of the year, as I've yet to find a significant fault with it.
Looooooved Batman: AA. I played through normal mode without getting a combo larger than 20... so the challenge rooms are really giving me grief. I think I'm going to complete them, then play hard mode and just tear shit up with my newly acquired pro-skills.
got to the same part as Samit in Batman AA and loving it. Having a huge Batman bonk on my entire life.(can't tell just by looking at me)
Also Shadow Complex. Very good week for games.
Chester wants to tell me how great Borderlands is.
No Diabolical Box!? I am so fucking ashamed for all of you.
Me and Prof. Layton be straight gangstas. I be rollin' some Champions Online beta, some Star Ocean, and I'm revisiting some PC games since I just blinged out my graphics card. BFG TECH FUCK YEAR!
Been playing two things, first an awesome Unreal Tournament 3 mod called "The Haunted" which is basically fast action Resident Evil 4 with modern graphics and online co-op for 4 people. It's one of the best mods I have played in my life.
Second I have been playing Mass Effect, trying out the new Pinnacle Station DLC, which is just flat-out terrible, and building my character to his second ending to prepare for ME2.
Burnout 2- After a few races this game gets really awesome. Finally tracked down a good copy for a decent price. Nothing like trying to race the whole way through oncoming traffic with your finger glued to the boost button. And the crashes.
Capcom Vs. SNK 2 on Gamecube- Been a couple years since I played any of this, as I left the disc at someone's party and never really bothered to go back and get it. Nice to have it again. Thanks, internet! Playing as Shin Akuma is a great stress reliever.
Marvel vs. Capcom- Dreamcast, woo! Shit, I suck. Also forgot how hard Onslaught is. Managed to fight and unlock Orange Hulk and Lilith-Morrigan, though. All the little secrets and backgrounds and theme songs keep this game relevant even though MVC2 bumps up the roster.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (GBA)- Finally got my own copy of the portable version and decided to start a run through it. Still kind of annoyed they changed the one room in the ice dungeon. But hey, I get to keep the shovel!
Super Star Wars (SNES)- One time I beat this on Jedi. That was a long time ago and I suck now, so I ran through on Easy. Baby steps. Fuck the Cantina boss and the troop carrier. Once you get to the Death Star it's not so bad.
Got Batman on Friday; finished it tonight. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out if I want to work my way up through the challenge rooms, find the collectibles, or just give the story mode a go on Hard.
Earlier this week it was a bit of Wolfenstein (decent, but I lost interest), Fallout 3 expansions, a spot of MvC2, & some random SNES games. Waiting on Layton to come in the mail.
HOLY SHIT.....I finished No More Heroes for the first time this weekend, and the ending blew me away. It was kinda sudden, but it felt kinda appropriate, even the Real Ending. I now see why people love this game so much. Also, I laughed when Silvia said "too bad there won't be a sequel!"
I also finished Final Fantasy 6 for the first time ever. Bravo. I loved it. I'm not sure where the love for Kefka's theme was, maybe I need to listen to it more, but Atma Weapon's theme BY FAR, is my favortie Boss Theme for the game.
Finally, finished Warioland Shake It. Very beautiful game and the music didn't fit Wario's character, but I still liked it in that sense. Very relaxing.
I'm so weary of seeing these posts by Mr. Sterling headed by Nazi imagery or Nazi-related imagery. It's surely the cheapest possible method of drawing attention to one's article. Perhaps I am exaggerating and it is only twice that this has happened, but it feels like more, and in a low-level sort of way, I find it offensive and shitty.
I forgot how much ball busting World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3 does. I mean that in a quite literal sense considering of many cannonballs are shot at you. I'm trying to learn how to complete the race in the forest for the second to last bead in okami. Say what you will about that game but it's way more fun to wander around collecting things than in the legend of zelda. There's something about being God that gives you the sense that you have all the time in the world.
Yeah....and plz Mr. Sterling its not funny to put Hitler every month on headline... i live in Germany and all ppl hate nazis and neo-nazis... and i was born in Poland...so nothing more to say.
Nearly done with Arkham Asylum. I finished all 240 Riddler Challenges, and discovered the secret of the Spirit of Amadeus Arkham. Just got a couple fights left in the story.
I have 52 puzzles solved in Professor Layton. And I just got the wave beam in Metroid Prime, the first of the Trilogy for the Wii.
Being stuck at home with a leg I can't put weight on leaves lots of time for video games.
