For this edition of Games of the Week, I've brought yet another Fry & Laurie sketch from the vaults for your own sordid entertainment. This particular video takes a look at the privatization of Britain's police force. It was ahead of its time, and I still feel it will turn out very true indeed. Video provided post-jump.
As always, the Destructoid staff played more videogames than was healthy, and you can hit the jump for that as well.
DMV: I have been playing A LOT of Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2. And I just can't stop. It's too much fun. Also, just started biting into Heavy Weapon.
Bennett: Lots and lots of Super Robot Taisen OG (for short I call it Super Robot Boobs), a little bit of Rock Band 2, Droplitz, and Clover for Xbox 360 (community games).
North: Polishing off Devil Survivor and loving it. Also Trash Panic, my game of TGS last year.
Villasenor: I'm playing through inFAMOUS a second time on hard to try out the whole evil thing. And I don't know if I just got really good at the game on my first playthrough or what, but most of it feels a lot easier than it did on normal. It also feels glitchier.
Grim: Metroid Fusion, the new Burnout Paradise DLC, and an unnecessary amount of Red Faction: Guerrilla.
Razak: 10 minutes of Assassins Creed. Yup, I played ten minutes of an old videogame this week and it was the beginning so it was just learning controls. Someone needs to take my gamers card away from me.
Sterling: Mostly been playing for "work." I've had to slog through Damnation, Fuel and Prototype this week for review, and the write-ups for those should all be coming soon. Damnation is not very good, Fuel is fun but confused and Prototype ... well. You already know what I think of the game that is blatantly better than inFAMOUS. Seriously, the game has its glaring flaws, but it manages to remain addictive and fun throughout.
In my downtime, I've been playing Chrono Trigger on DS. It is quite good.
Chester: Busting made me feel good this week, as I had a chance to play through all of Ghostbusters, as well as dabble in the multiplayer mode. Also spent some time with Rock Band Unplugged and Swords and Soldiers for WiiWare.
Holmes: Finally finished editing the last of the E3 footage, so I could get back into playing some videogames. Still, even then the picking were slim. Found a copy of the Munchables, which combines the sense of humor of Parappa the Rapper with the mindless violence of Onechanbara. If I were five years old, it would probably be my favorite game on the planet. Even still, it's a game that I'm not sad to own.
Concelmo: After completing the immensely challenging Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure (screw you, rooftop level!) I dove into, and surprisingly finished, the way-too-short, but unbelievably awesome Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Seeing some of my favorite RPG characters of all time again brought a nostalgic tear to my eye.
Also playing the great Flock! and Wallace & Gromit Adventures: Fright of the Bumblebees for Xbox Live Arcade.
Aziz: What did you think of the last boss in Henry Hatsworth?
Concelmo: Well, besides the fact that I was genuinely shocked by the crazy plot twist, I thought the last boss was really creative and super challenging -- everything I love in a good boss! Awesome!
I'm playing through Ico. I never beat it the first time around (rented it, then something came up). Luckily, through a trade from the awesome c-member funktastic, I have it now!
Other than that: Nights in the Nightmare, Cellfactor, and Wallace and Gromit Episode 3 for review purposes.
Enraged that Prototype still has yet to come in my mail, so I kept myself occupied with some Iron Maiden DLC on Rock Band 2, and somehow became unaware that Gunster Heroes was available for download. I bought that and have been gleefully blasting the hell out of everything for most of this weekend.
I've been playing D2 as well of course, along with more Demigod. Other than that I finally hooked up my modded Super Famicom and am enjoying some Terranigma. God, I love that game. <3
So Colette, how is Ghostbusters? Are you going to be reviewing it for the site? That's one of two games that I intend to buy this year. :)
Dug out Burnout Paradise again for a trip to Big Surf Island. Quite enjoyed the scenery. Especially when careening through the sky end over end. I crashed a lot.
I've been playing copious amounts of UFC ever since it came out and highly enjoying it. I just managed to get an undefeated career, which made me happy.
Having some trouble on the final mission in Red Faction, and the occasional Left 4 Dead match is always awesome. And some 1vs100. I can't seem to last for the entire Live episodes. They just get tedious.
I've been getting back to playing Guitar Hero a lot lately, as well as some Halo 3. Mostly been working on my finals though so haven't spent TOO much time on games. lol. . .
Playing some Suikoden: Tierkreis right now (The voice acting goes from okay to AUGHUGHUGH, but the music is incredible. The pain of the choice whether to play it muted is great)
Also going through Devil Summoner 1 in my slowness, though I haven't had a lot of time to dedicate towards console gaming. My emoticons are sad. :(
Tons of Persona 2: Innocent Sin! Just when I thought I was fighting the final boss, I realized I was only about 2/3 of the way through the game...so I've got a ways to go. Beyond that, some Guilty Gear (the PS1 original), .hack//QUARANTINE, Rock Band Unplugged, and just started Resident Evil 5.
The usual, played the hell out of Rock Band 2, though I played it more than usual to prepare for whatever tournament events may be at Anime Mid Atlantic this weekend. Also rediscovered the greatness that is Battlefield: Bad Company's multiplayer, which has officially become the only online shooter I play. And in a very shocking turn of events, I found myself playing a lot of Street Fighter IV. Apparently I'm better at it then I thought, managed to become the first person in my group of friends to go around the room and beat all of them, even though they're all tournament level and I really don't play Street Fighter a lot. Still not entering any tournaments though.
Oh, also got to play Guitar Hero Smash Hits early (Not the crappy three song demo.) This probably goes without saying, but don't spend your money on it until it drops in price, it's really not worth the 60 bucks. If you love rhythm games though, it's definitely an awesome party rental, though the tiny song list and the fact that they're all from previous entries in the series makes it kinda boring after a while.
I'm pretty much glued to CoDW@W, can't get enough of the new zombie map.
also playing Operation Darkness, I decided to give it a second try after disliking the demo. and so far it not half bad.
I'm suffering from UFC addiction, cannot stop playing it online, even set up a bringit.com account and have been playing for money. Not a great idea while budgeting for the coming baby. People don't fuck about when playing for real money!
Apart from that, was off work for a week with what felt like lung cancer, (and in my endless wisdom, bought a bag of weed, that's what you need during a severe, week long, seasonal asthma attack, a bag of weed, that'll fix it!) and rented Sacred 2 -
1st play: not impressed back to UFC in 1 hour.
2nd play: OK, new character, getting a bit into it, too many quests accepted, loads of people following me, can't get rid of them! back to UFC in 10 hours.
3rd play: new character again, playing a little more coherently, starting to "get it" totally loving it, sunk 20+ hours in, can't wait to get home and slaughter some more creatures/people. Damn being back at work sucks.
Not touched UFC for 2 whole days! Not planning to either, got too much Sacred 2 to play and only a couple of days left on my rental!!
Playing more WoW and really enjoying it. I'm 3 Arathi Basin marks away from owning, at long last, a Black Battlestrider! I've wanted one of these things for my night elf engineer ever since I created the character 4 years ago.
Also, more Tiger Woods 10 (EXCELLENT) Grand Slam Tennis (MEH) Prince of Persia (SURE OK) Soul Calibur (CALIBUR!) and Little Big Planet (SCIENCE!), from which I hope to have my first set of playable levels completed some time in the next two weeks.
I played some Class of Heroes, dove back into Civ IV, (Civ IV Complete is a pretty sweet deal if you're been holding out the entire time.) put some time into Prototype, (Unlike Sterling, I'm resoundingly "meh" on it.) and capped off the weekend by playing a couple rounds of Virtua Tennis '09 after watching the Lakers take the title.
havent been home alot so all DS this week. Henry Hatsworth, not sure i'll ever beat that one, having trouble with a boss halfway through the game. Puzzle Quest Galactrix, Pokemon Diamond. and um, Crosswords DS and Nintendogs. dont judge me!
