Chad: Surprisingly, I haven't started my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV yet -- I am trying to finish Lost Odyssey first (of which I am on the final dungeon). Not playing GTAIV is pretty much torture, as I am a huge fan of the series and heard this was the best one yet! Look at you, GTAIV box, staring at me. You want me to play you, don't you. You want it! But, no, I am staying strong. Damn you, GTAIV box. Damn you.
Fronz: Unfortunately, NOT Grand Theft Auto 4! I'm leaving for my annual Myrtle Beach vacation today and the Xbox 360 is too clunky to throw in my luggage. So I was faced with the dilemma of either buying GTA 4 and playing it nonstop for a week, and then going through withdrawal, or being patient and not tearing into it until I get back. So for the next three weeks I'll be hitting up all the Wii games I never had the time to finish over the past year, starting with Super Mario Galaxy, plus the new Mario Kart. Other than that I've been playing a lot of the first Phoenix Wright DS game and also Professor Layton and the Curious Village. Both are a lot of fun so far, but Professor Layton has way more meat to it, so I always end up playing it longer before bed every night.
Samit: This week, I've spent close to 13 hours tooling around in Liberty City. That isn't too different from what I normally do with my time, since I live in New York...minus the whole "wanton destruction and killing" stuff, that is. I would've stayed in Niko Bellic's shoes for much longer, but playing GTA IV from 2 AM to 8 AM on Tuesday completely screwed up my sleep cycle for the entire week. Of course, my playtime was also severely impaired by the obscene amount of mucus that has been spewing profusely from my nostrils; I've gone through half a box of tissues in two days. Damn you, lousy Smarch weather!
Aside from gleefully comparing Liberty City's roads, bridges, and landmarks with those of its real-life doppelgänger, I headed over to the New York Hall of Science on Wednesday to try out THQ's WALL•E movie tie-in game on the Wii and 360. In addition, I played through the echochrome demo last night, which made my brain hurt but also convinced me to spend ten bucks on the full game. You should do the same if you have a PS3 or PSP.
Topher: Shockingly enough, I've played almost nothing but GTA4 since Monday. Aside from that, a little Taiko No Tatsujin 2 on DS and some Radirgy on Dreamcast.
Gameboi: In addition to my usual staples of Warhawk and CoD4, I squeezed in some time with GTA IV and The Orange Box. Not as much as I would have liked, but I hope to get some more free time next week.
Nick: Well, a little Grand Theft Auto IV here, a little Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (PSP) there. What a huge leap there is between those two games.
Colette: I played GTA IV for about a minute. For me, it's more fun to watch than it is to play. I finished Lost Odyssey (sigh...sad to see it end) and have been madly playing Persona 3 FES to fill the hole ever since. It's doing the job quite well -- I can't babble on enough about how superior that game is.
DMV: GTA IV isn't out here in Japan, nor do I have the means to play it. So instead, I've continued my love-hate relationship with War of the Lions, and recently started Mother 3 to improve my reading skills. Catch of the day: Street Fighter 2 for $0.84.
Jonathan: Picked up GTA IV. Initially, I was extremely disappointed. But now I accept the game for what it is... more GTA. I was never able to stay interested in the past games enough to play through them, and I doubt GTA IV will be different. Too bad, because the game is extremely well crafted. It's just not very compelling.
On the other end of the spectrum we have Mario Kart Wii, which was also disappointing at the start, and also more fun once you accept it for what it is...more Mario Kart. Unlike GTA IV, Mario Kart Wii actually gets more fun the more you play it. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm lucky enough to have Tristero on my Mario Kart friend list. That alone makes the game worth the price of admission.
Orcist: If you've been following these little weekly wrap-up posts for the past month or so, you'll have noticed that every week, I say the same thing: I complain about school and how I only played 10 minutes of a video game and then I complain about school some more. Hopefully, this will be the last time in 4 months that I will have to say that. I've got 2 exams to go, and then I'm done.
Nevertheless, I played some BioShock, a little Rock Band, and, since a friend of mine just bought a Dreamcast, Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
Also, I'm going to see Radiohead on Thursday in Atlanta -- anyone else going to be there?
Nick: When it started costing me more than $20 to see Radiohead that's when I stopped. :(
Chad: I am going to see Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl when they come here. Huzzah! :)
Samit: You guys are going to see Radiohead? I am so jealous!
Jim: Radiohead is no ELO, that's for sure. I have been playing GTA IV and, despite my initial Jimpressions, I must say that it's really grown on me. I still hate the way the cars handle, but there are times where the driving feels like good ol' GTA again and the sheer experience is enough to keep me wanting more. You managed to pull the wool over my eyes again, Rockstar.
Grim: I finally got a PlayStation Portable this week along with Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, and of course, Grand Theft Auto IV.
What in the name of THE DEVIL'S HELL have you all been playing?
Rock Band, and that god damn game called GTAIV. Which I am pissed at it right now. How dares him freeze when I attempt to play it online.
Oh, and Crisis Core on my way to work.
Don't worry about nor getting Radiohead... more for us.
GTA IV, Rock Band and bursts of Okami here and there.
Mk Wii!
As the only remaining human being alive that doesn't particularly care about GTAIV, I've been playing mostly Rock Band, WoW, and Bioshock. I just got a 360 a few weeks ago, and have been debating what games I'd like to get for it. I'm considering Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Assassin's Creed, Orange Box (mostly for Portal) and others.
Any suggestions?
Ooh, jealousy. Radiohead plays here next week, but I get back from a school trip about three hours after they start.
Last night I tried to go through MGS3 in one go. Started at about 9 pm, and played until 3 am. I gave up right before the fight with the fury. Other than that, I picked up Mario Kart.
@Samit - Touche - I have consumed a full box of tissues in one day.
fronz that's a stupid idea. buy the damn game
GTA IV and nothing else.
Radiohead makes love to my ears.
GTA IV. I've only got 3 other games on my 360(Halo3, Viva Pinata, forza 2), while my poor ps2 has failed to see a new game in quite awhile...
OH NOES, DONT U KNOW OK COMPUTAR IS THE FINEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME + 1???
I'm about where jim is on the group. Good music but not nearly as seminal as critics claim them to be.
Metal Gear Solid 2...yeah I was a little late to the party on that one.
My birthday was teh same day that GTAIV came out, but I do not have the means nor desire to play it. Instead, I got a DS as a gift and bought the World Ends With You, Feel the Magic XY/XX, and Sonic Rush. All are fun, but TWEWY takes the cake.
Gunstar Heroes on my NOT PSP.
I couldn't afford the Radiohead tickets at the Hollywood Bowl :(
Played some Gradius on my GBA while at the theater waiting for Iron Man to start (GREAT movie) and GTAIV sessions just get more and more fun for me the longer I play.
Radiohead to me is like musical therapy. Soothing and relieving. Mmmmm
I pretty much only played Mythos and COD4. Some Iron Man, but damn that game fails.
Team Fortress 2, after some crazy achievement whoring, I finally have my Ubersaw and it's SAWESOME!
Awaiting for my return is the PC version of Assassin's Creed, Condemned, Noitu Love 2 and Okami for the PS2.
I need to get my DS fixed so I can finish Mario & Luigi Partners in Time. The game was so amazing, I almost cried when my DS broke right in the middle of a crazy boss fight.
I do want to play some Metal Gears (all of them actually), Panzer Dragoon Saga for the 12th time and for the first time play Persona 3 FES. Colette really got me with so much love, I need to try, even if I don't feel ready for another RPG game (Mario & Luigi was a rare thing in these days).
I need free time!!!
OH MY GOD I JUST PISSED MY PANTS. I HAVE 30+ RADIOHEAD CD'S INCLUDING ALL OF THEIR ALBUMS, IMPORTS FROM CANADA, THE UK, AND JAPAN, SPECIAL EDITIONS, AND SINGLES. I WILL BE AT THE RADIOHEAD CONCERT IN DALLAS TEXAS ON MAY 19TH, I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THEM SINCE THE BENDS CAME OUT AROUND 1995. THEY ARE BY FAR MY FAVORITE BAND AND THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME. I HAVE MADE 5 RADIOHEAD MUSIC VIDEOS (I WAS IN HIGHSCHOOL) 4 OF WHICH ARE POSTED ON www.newgrounds.com/collection/radiohead.htm THE ONE'S BY "TIM URLACHER" ARE MINE. ALSO EVERY TIME YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT DOWN LOADABLE CONTENT FOR GH III OR ROCK BAND I ALWAYS THINK/COMMENT "YEAH BUT WHERE IS ALL THE RADIOHEAD." I OWN EVERY SHIRT THAT RADIOHEAD HAS EVER MADE EXCEPT FOR ONE. I KEEP A RADIOHEAD BOOK IN MY BATHROOM SO EVERY TIME I POOP I CAN READ ABOUT THEM SO I KNOW EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY CAN ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE THE MOST AMAZING PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. THEY HAVE INSPIRED ME IN WAYS THAT NOTHING ELSE HAS EVER BEEN ABLE TO. IF IT WASN'T FOR RADIOHEAD I NEVER WOULD HAVE STARTED PLAYING PIANO/WHICH LATER LEAD TO ME PLAYING GUITAR... WHICH LATER LEAD TO ME MAKING www.myspace.com/affinitia I WROTE 2 BLOGS ABOUT RADIOHEAD AND THEIR RELATION TO VIDEOGAMES ON THIS WEBSITE. NEITHER OF WHICH GOT MANY COMMENTS OF VIEWS. I HAVE AT LEAST ONE RADIOHEAD POSTER IN EVERY ROOM OF MY HOUSE. I LISTEN TO THEM/PLAY THEIR MUSIC ON PIANO/GUITAR AT LEAST ONCE A DAY TO STAY SANE. BETWEEN 2002 AND 2004 THE ONLY BAND I LISTENED TO WAS RADIOHEAD. I MAY LISTEN TO OTHER BANDS NOW BUT RADIOHEAD ARE BY FAR THE MOST AMAZING/BEAUTIFUL BAND THAT WILL EVER EXIST. IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE LOST ALL HOPE IN LIFE AND KILLED MYSELF YEARS AGO. I LOVE RADIOHEAD I LOVE RADIOHEAD I LOVE RADIOHEAD. OH AND MY "AVATAR" ON THIS SITE IS DEFINITELY STANLEY DONWOOD'S ART FROM OK COMPUTER. MY QUOTE ON MY GAMERTAG IS "OK COMPUTER" AND I'M PROBABLY THE MOST OBSESSED FAN THAT THEY HAVE. I DON'T MEAN TO PLUG MY MUSIC/ANIMATIONS/BLOGS, I JUST MEAN TO PROVE HOW MUCH OF AN INFLUENCE THEY ARE ON ME AND HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM AND THEIR MUSIC. I KNOW THEIR BIRTHDAY'S, I KNOW THE NAMES OF THEIR CHILDREN, I KNOW THOM YORKE'S HAIRSTYLES AND WHEN THEY CHANGED. I AM A RADIOHEAD FANBOY ENCYCLOPEDIA.
/END RANT
they had to scan my carry-on backpack three times. apparently they've never seen a Wii before. there's no way a 360 would have fit.
Radiohead's new album is their best imo. 2nd place goes to KidA.
Going to see Radiohead in Montreal in August. Woooo.
GTAIV, Rock Band, and to level 5 in the Age of Conan beta
Radiohead are definitely a good band and a skillful bunch of musicians, but as far as i can tell, most of their fans worship them simply because they're not 'mainstream'. Tbh, they're more mainstream than a lot of bands.
Anyways, this week been playing GTA IV, and love nearly everything about it. Would like to see an improved cover system (its not bad, but not great) and come god damn checkpoints! I really, really, REALLY hate having to drive back to where im supposed to go every fucking time...
Also ive played lots of TF2, and Goldrush and the Payload gametype are utterly fantastic. Ive played medic a fair bit but no achievement whoring, mostly just trying to make up for all the completely shit medics that are around at the moment.
Greatest song ever: Life in a glass house
Greatest first album evr: Pablo Honey
Greatest album ever: OK Computer
Greatest band ever: 3LW ...err Radiohead
Assessins Creed for the PC mostly.
I have to write something about it.
Finally decided to play through my copy of the original MGS after, what, a decade? Its sad it took this long, but omg, how epic. Psycho mantis? Craziest moment in video game history. He moved my controller with his psychokinetic powers! Thanks Retroforce for convincing me to play :-) About 7 hours in...looking to try and (be the last person on earth ever to) finish the series, perhaps motivating myself to become interested in a PS3.
Also putting a lot of time in to Contact for the DS...what an awesome and underrated game! It had decent ratings, but i feel like it got panned a bit when it came out. I found a used (maybe not even...had no save data and is in perfect shape) copy for $15 and have been playing the hell out of it. Its sorta like a mini Oblivion but with a lot more fun factored in, as well as a perfect sense of humor. I nearly lost it when the professor on the top screen chimed in during a raid on an enemy base and said "I wish a base like this belonged to us."
Radiohead want.
Also, GTA IV, GTA LOL moar like!!!! am rite?
gta IV and for some strange reason perfect dark zero, man that game sucks. but gta IV is my new favorite
Since I just got a 360 and only two of my games are here so far its been all Skate, and that by far is the best skateboarding game. I've only did a couple of missions I just roll around the city. And alot little coop with my girlfriend on Monster Madness, the controls are awful, but over all its not a bad game.
Wuts this GTA IV and Radiohead everyone is yammering about?
I've been crackwhoring the Mythos betar, because EPIC MAPS ARE EPIC, and anyone else on dToid that is in should let me know.
And uh... oh yeah, Rondo of Swords is still fucking great.
The Orange Box, Phantom Hourglass, and Startropics!
PS3:
Everybodys golf world tour
Xbox360:
GTA IV
PC:
Simcity 4 (old I know, but I fire it up once every couple of years for a few weeks play)
No 360 or PS3 yet, so no GTA IV, but I did start Phantasy Star IV last night on the Sega Genesis Collection and I've been replaying the original Metal Gear Solid, FFX and some Mario Kart DS. I should be getting Persona 3:FES this week or the next. Oh, and Speed Racer (the movie, that is) is gonna be rad.
Since I don't have a 360 at the moment it's no GTA4 for me. I started playing through chrono cross for the first time but 2 hours in I had a power cut and realised I hadn't saved so I'll try playing through it again in a couple of days. Mario kart wii still has a firm grip on me and I am still doing my daily wii fit more than a week after I bought it so you never know maybe I will lose my gut.
I do love radiohead but it has been a long time since they released ok computer, people seem to forget that.
I've been playing GTA4 the most, in fact now that I think about it, its all I've played all week. Every other game has taken a back seat to GTA4. Also, I've always liked Radiohead.
GTA 1-4 (I bought the steam gta pack, plus gta 4 ps3).
TF2 pc.
Blazing Angels 2 ps3.
Rock Band ps3.
That is all.
I've been playing Grand Theft Auto as well! However, my variant is the series' third installment, so I'm exploring a more constrained Liberty City in all its 480p glory.
Radiohead just "there"? Solid proof that subjectivity is the rule of our existence., amiright?
Also: Arcana Heart
Ikaruga
Prof. Layton
No More Heroes (Henry, finally)
Jeez.. I have exams next week,,,
So I couldn't play that much..
just UT3, Stalker, Orange Box, Witcher, Bioshock Testdrive unlimited.. and I've finished few tracks on Dirt...ow yeah and I've played cs:s for few hours..... but that's about it....
now that I see all that... I think I should be with my studies again...
Halo 3. Can't get GTA4 'til exams are over - I won't let it ruin my already mediocre GPA! Begone, demon!
I've been playing a lot of The World Ends with You for the DS this weekend, that's been a unique experience.
persona 3
Radiohead's Fake Plastic Trees.. I have alot of memories with that song (incl. the time I was in Berlin, Germany for a couple of weeks, it was one of the first things I saw on TV over there..) I've been playing Super Smash Bros., Crazy Climber 2000 (PS1), I beat Williams Arcade Pinball (Wii) this weekend, lastly some SuperJoy ("76000-N-1" NES games) just for kicks.. And my g/f has been playing GTA4 on the 360.. And it IS just about as fun to watch as play prob.. I need more hands on time with it!
Replaying Dead Rising for whatever reason and some RSV2.
Oh and Radiohead is fantastic. In Rainbows was the best $6.66 I've spent online ever.
GTA IV when I am not going nuts over finals. Also, I love Radiohead. I am not one of those who uses the term "best band" since I love music of all types, but they are one of my favorites. Going to catch them play in August.
I strait up can't stand radiohead
Radiohead are my favourite band. I hear a lot of people say that. They must be up there...
I've been playing a whole mess of GTA IV and I restarted Link's Awakening DX, I'm looking to beat it without dying. After rediscovering how shitty and dark the GBC screens are I've switched over to my GBA SP for it... I also went through about four weeks worth of the downloadable puzzles for Prof. Layton...
...And Radiohead is absolutely no fun to listen to...
Okami on the Wii. Looooved it at the beginning but I'm not that interested in it anymore. Gonna try and finish it this week.
Rock Band, of course.
GTA IV whenever I was bored and/or felt like listening to some hookers ordering me to "fuck that shit".
I'm gonna try and play MGS: The Twin Snakes this week. I never played it, but rather watched my brother play it. Now that MGS4 is coming, I feel like I need to play The Twin Snakes.
i got screwed over by both waste and ticketmaster when it came to me getting radiohead tix.
y'know that japanese arcade game where you can stick a plastic finger up someone's ass?. they should put ticket scalpers on the list with child molesters and mother-in-law's.
I've been playing Persona 3: FES mostly. A a little The World Ends With You, but saving that for a trip I'm going on in a week or so. Also been wanting to try Mana Khemia, but P3F has been keeping me sufficiently occupied.
