Most of you will know Fry & Laurie as "that LittleBigPlanet guy" and "that House guy" but I know them as a pair of very talented humorists who had a terrific sketch show known as A Bit of Fry & Laurie. As an example of their wonderful comedy, I have provided a video this week of one of their most brilliant sketches, the Michael Jackson interview. The sheer genius of it cannot be understated and it can be viewed post-jump, with a high recommendation that you do.
Also, videogames happened in the general sphere of our lives this week. Hit the jump to see what the Dtoid crew has been playing, and please do share your own gaming week with us!
Bennett: Wrapping up Plants vs Zombies for review, which I can finally talk about on May 5th (and I can't wait to talk about it!). Playing Hammerin' Hero on and off, which is both adorable and frustrating, nursing my newfound Diner Dash addiction on both the 360 version as well as on my iPhone, and dabbling around with Silent Hill Origins on my PSP again. Thinking about picking up Velvet Assassin this week too, depending on what I hear about it this week.
Sterling: DON'T BUY VELVET ASSASSIN! GOOD FUCKING GOD IN THE NAME OF HEAVEN AND ALL THAT IS SACRED TO THE CHRISTCHILD DO NOT BUY VELVET ASSASSIN!
Colette, I love you, and I can't bear to see you make that horrible, horrible mistake.
Bennett: Oh no. Man. I was hoping it would be good :(
Sterling: Your hopes better be made of magical wishdust and fairy's vaginal fluid then.
Concelmo: Man, it's tough to follow "vaginal fluid" ...
I finally finished Valkyria Chronicles for the PlayStation 3. Simply put, it is one of the greatest videogames I have even had the pleasure of playing. I loved every minute of it.
Also started on Pikmin for the Wii (BEST SERIES EVER!) and The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai for Xbox Live Arcade.
Grigsby: Well so much for hoping that Jim would at least give it a moderate score. What, you don't like the singing Nazis? That my favorite part ;)
I've been playing Earthbound for the SNES. I haven't really been playing much of anything else, though. My 360 took a shit a few weeks ago and I never realized how much I actually played it until it was gone. As for my Earthbound update, I've gotten to the third town and proceeded to go into the weird cave where you kill the slime boss. I got totally owned the first time playing him because I had no idea that feeding him the honey item would benefit you, I had figured that it would heal the bastard. After dying once, I used the honey item on the boss and beat him like nothing. Then I went to sleep.
Grim: Picked up Pure and Silent Hill: Homecoming fora cool $10 each last week, and I've slowly been making my way through them. They have been really enjoyable so far, but another game I recently bought on the cheap, Condemned 2, has been much harder for me to get into.
Sterling: As you could already have guessed, I've been playing Velvet Assassin this week. Let's wait for the official review, but right now, it'll be a miracle if I can even bring myself to reach the third level. I've also been playing Resistance: Retribution for a late review, and while I appreciate what they've done so far as bringing a console experience to a handheld, the way the game constantly breaks its own rules is infuriating. The big review game this week, however, has been X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which is one of the best licensed games I've ever played.
Outside of that, you can bet your arse it's been even more Killzone 2. I've finally unlocked the Air Support badge and am now working on getting the Engineer badges. After that, I just need to get a handful of Sport & Mark ribbons then work on Assault Class and I'll have earned all class-specific badges. Then it's onto mopping up the pure luck stuff, like Assassination ribbons and the fucking pistol ribbon that I'll never get because fuck the pistol.
Holmes: Finally started in on my own game of Resident Evil 5. Man, what a weird game to play single player. And by "weird" I mean "stupid". Sure, it's a crap-of-a-time to be forced into escorting a near-defenseless, A.I. controlled character, but watching one beat a game for you may be an even worse experience. I can't believe I'm saying this, but RE5 single player actually made me miss the Ashley-escort missions of RE4.
Also started in on Klonoa for review. So far, it's worth the $30, but it's nothing that could be used to convert non-fans of cute platformer genre into the fold. The same can't be said of Spewer, a new game by Edmund McMillen and friends that should be hitting New Grounds any second now. Mr McMillen gave me a preview copy of the game earlier in the week, and I love it. It's about a cute little test-tube experiment who has to traverse various obstacles by jumping, projectile vomiting, and eating its own vomit. It's even better than it sounds.
Finally, played the usual amount of Animal Crossing: City Folk. Seven months in and I'm still finding new stuff in the game. Good times.
Davis: I wish I was playing Klonoa. My Gamestop didn't have it early. Grumble.
Instead, I've been making my way through Banjo-Tooie on XBLA for review. This is my first time playing it, and I must say, the gargantuan amount of *stuff* in that game is overwhelming. Nine hours in and I'm still not really sure if I like it more than the first game.
I've also been getting through Secret of Mana and Rhythm Tengoku Gold (why did I wait so long to play this? I love it!) during my spare time, and also keeping Jon company in Animal Crossing: City Folk.
Niero: I can't remember the last time I played a casual game as good as Plants vs. Zombies. I've put at least 40 hours into it and loved every minute of it. 11/10!
Razak: I picked up the DS version of Quantum of Solace for ten bucks and I'm playing through that. Only a few levels in but so far it's got some good ideas excecuted poorly. That's the case with most rushed games for movies though.
Sarkar: I hadn't been playing that many games at home this past week, but that all changed on Friday, when I -- along with Dtoiders Superflossy, casualweaponry, and Cataract -- headed down to Baltimore for a massive DtoidBaltimoreDC NARP! (Technically, though, it was an "ARP"; today is Topher's birthday! Yay! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOPHER!) I want to give a humongous shout-out to Hitogoroshi for hosting the madness (and all of us, for two nights) in his awesome house.
The game of the ARP was definitely Street Fighter IV -- many hours were spent watching people spam Shoryukens. I happen to suck at the game, but I'm going to blame the fact that the game was being played on a 360. I'm not very good with arcade sticks, and of course, the 360 controller's D-pad is nigh-useless. I'm at least semi-competent with a PS3 controller in my hands.
We also played a ton of Rock Band, naturally. I must say, the drums on "Sunday Morning" by No Doubt are really fun. And thanks, Topher, for the backing vocals on Jimmy Eat World's "Sweetness"! I even managed to get AgentMOO to purchase 3 on 3 NHL Arcade on his 360, and I then proceeded to own ScottyG and others. Man, that game rocks. Many other games were played, such as Power Stone on the Dreamcast and Waku Waku 7 on the Neo Geo, but really, much of the weeked was a blur. Just know that it was awesome.
Side note: after all the hate for sports games that I dealt with this weekend, I think I'm going to play a lot of them this week as a backlash.
Also, I apparently killed Hito's Xbox 360 Elite by playing the X-Men Origins: Wolverine demo. Whoops.

Meet the rest of the team
I'm back home from school, which means I finally have access to the 360 again, so I'm hoping to FINALLY wrap up Bioshock this week. I'm assembling the Big Daddy costume now. Also playing some RE4: Wii Edition. Yes, I'm about two years behind everyone else, but I don't care. Great games, both of them.
Still working on Persona 3 FES, playing some Chrono Trigger DS, and Sexy Parodius for Sega Saturn. All three equally good and time consuming but I must finish Persona 3, there will be no excuses!
I spent most of the week playing either Blitz: The League 2 on PS3 ($10 game sale pickup), Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for DS, or Leisure Suit Larry via DosBox on my PC, which is probably the weirdest combination of games to be playing in one week ever. Sorry...evar.
Good to hear that Wolverine: Origins is good. Also @Niero, I may have to check out Plants vs. Zombies.
ALMOST at the end of Wind Waker. So close I can feel Gannon's breath on the back of my neck :/ sort of rattled that the game is going to end soon though.
Also been playing a hella lot of Rhythm Heaven, and picked up Moon and Hotel Dusk today also for 20 bucks each. And I have Odin Sphere coming in the mail anyday now. Really excited to start that.
Picked up Pure and Alone in the Dark for $10 each. Pure is still really fun, Alone in the Dark is ok. I'm pretty sure I like the musical score more than the game. Beat F.E.A.R. 2 and Dark Sector as well.
I'm severely late at games most times, so I've been tackling through Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia since Tuesday, with a couple of Banjo Tooie/Rock Band 2 breaks interspersed. Ecclesia's fun, but I didn't expect to already be sitting at Dracula's door with only 10 hours of game time. Oh well, it'll take forever to beat that Large Cavern thing anyways.
Also been getting more and more into Rhythm Heaven, but my girlfriend seems to be whooping my ass in it...
GrimGrimoire, playing it as much as humanly possible. Game is so damn awesome, and I'm in love with the sprite work in it. I have Odin Sphere as well waiting for me. I'm tempted to start that one up as well, but then I'll be adding another game to my currently playing list of like 50 games. So I think I'll save that for a later time. Also, now that I'm better aquainted with Vanillaware, I'm excited for Oboro Muramasa. Been playing Persona 4 as well, slowly crawling through this behemoth.
Finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect and currently working on playing through Hardcore mode now. Decent game, but if you go for Completionist the game feels really repetitive after a while and there is a lot of loading which can be annoying.
Finally playing MGS4, thanks to now having a PS3! I'm at the start of Act III. Valkyria Chronicles has completely stolen my attention though. I've been stuck at the two scout sneaking mission for like two days! :)
Also started back into Fallout 3, getting to level 11. Feeling a little more confident in my survival skills, but I need to spend a play session reorganizing my gear and buffing up on non-story quests.
Still killing zombie Nazis. Oh and I've been playing a freeware platformer game called Eversion, that game is total mind fuckery, NOT for the weak of heart!
Velvet Assassin is that bad huh? Poor Sterling, taking the bullet for us.
I've tried out the X:Men Origins Wolverine demo and I KNOW I will be visiting my local retailer to purchase a copy. Sure, it's a typical hack and slash game but I found myself intrigued by the decapitations and amputations Wolverine imposes onto his enemies. I am worried about the replay value...definitely should rent it first.
Got Resident Evil 2 PC out of the way...both Claire and Leon scenarios :]
I've been playing plenty of Demigod, Zeno Clash, a bit less than that, and Left 4 Dead, a bit less than that. Demigod, I really like. I recently tried DoTA, and was put off by the idiots online, and the seeming complexity of the item system, which I didn't really feel like trying to learn. Demigod is much more approachable, with simple items without recipes, and only 8 heroes.
I've been mostly playing Persona 3 fes,Yakuza and Odin Sphere which I got at the big Gamestop sale, all are great games in their own unique way.I also picked up Clive Barkers Jericho for $10 at the Best Buy sale which, although was really short,I really liked...right up till the ending which was about the worst "ending" I've ever seen in a game. Was just pathetic,NES games had more satisfying endings.Up until the end though it's really good, great graphics and premise.then you beat it and you feel like lighting the disc on fire.at least I did lol
Been playing a little Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Half-Life 2 again.
But mostly i've been playing Banjo Tooie - a platformer gem I missed out on during the N64 era, despite how much I adored Banjo Kazooie. I'm amazed at the scope and difficulty of this game; I'm 5 hours into the game and I only got about 14 jiggies. I could 100% complete Mumbo's Mountain and Treasure Trove Cove in about an hour in the first game.
Just like Ashley, I'm not sure if I like this game more than the first one (wich is my fifth favourite game of all time). I can definetly acknowledge that this is a better game, but there was just something about the first one that gave it a special place in my heart. Of course, it could just be retro tinted glasses.
I'm still slowly making my way through Chrono Trigger (just fought Magus), and every time I pick it up I get more and more pissed at myself for waiting this long to play it. Also picked up Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Boobs for the DS this week and am finding it to be rather enjoyable.
Other than that, I've just been trying to get back into Killzone 2 online while debating on whether or not to get the new maps. Oh, yeah, I got Tecmo Bowl Kickoff as part of the Best Buy $10 sale... not my best purchase, but it's great for quick games here and there.
Just tried out Spewer on Newgrounds. Great platformer, worth the try.
Finished Godfather 2 earlier this week, worked on Final Fantasy 8 some, and began playing Shadow of Rome for PS2. Great story so far, hopefully it stays that way.
I've been playing the crap out of Wolverine. I got all the achievements now except find all the mutagens, find all the dog tags, and Level up your character all the way (because I started a new game on Hard and it deleted all my stats so I had to start over >.<)
I freaking love the game and am on my 3rd playthrough. It was a lot more fun on hard actually, but not so much fun trying to get all the achievements on hard ha ha.
Borrowed Prince of Persia of my brother, I am really enjoying it despite how easy the game is. Perhaps the lack of challenge helps me relax and absorb the game's atmosphere, I dunno. I'm just really digging it.
Finished Persona 3 FES The Answer, so I started up playing Mother 3 via magic and rainbows and children's wishes. Hopefully this ends up coming out here similar to how Sin & Punishment finally made it after several years. The music is great.
And more Animal Crossing: City Folk. Finally had a spike in turnip prices this week and made a small mint.
Spent plenty of time staring at my Steam games list (53 games) and ended up just playing some TF2. Not as much as normal, but enough to stay in the top 100 on my current favorite servers. Messed around with some PS2 games that I dumped to my computer. Depressingly enough I can get Final Fantasy XII to be graphically on par with Last Remnant. Not sure if that's high praises for FFXII or a low blow to LR. Been playing a lot of Burnout Paradise to finally get my elite license. Also played a bunch of the MvC2 demo.
Not gaming, but I started to get back into shape since I'm nearing recovery from the knee surgery I had a week less than a year ago now. Thank god for ibuprofen.
Oh, and Rock Band 2. When you're living in a dorm there will always be random several-hour-long Rock Band breaks.
Well... most of last week was a throwaway due to work related issues. At the Baltimore narp though I got to play some AMMO thanks to Agent Moo (Loved it on 360, and can't wait for it to come out!), and played some 3 on 3 NHL Arcade with Samit, which I may actually buy. :)
I got all excited because i picked up Capcom Fighting Jam, and SNK vs. Capcom for xbox only to get them home and find that neither are backwards compatible.... so no games for me this weekend. :(
I picked up a few cheap games lately Orange Box, Army of Two and The Megadrive Collection. I also got a early copy of the new Riddick a few weeks ago but i cant be arsed to play it! oh and RE5 co-op
I finished Too Human and finally picked up a copy of Street Fighter 4, which I suck at! Its the first real fighting game i've played since Soul Calibur 2 on the Gamecube, so it'll take a lot of practice for me to be able to beat it. Perseverance is necessary..
And this morning I finished the second case on Apollo Justice. Great series, I love the humour!
"I got all excited because i picked up Capcom Fighting Jam, and SNK vs. Capcom for xbox only to get them home and find that neither are backwards compatible...."
Lucky.
Got the 360 version of SF4 after having unlocked everybody and done a bunch of online fighting in the Playstation 3 version. More Disgaea 2 (which I'll probably play until the PSP version comes out in the US) was played. Played some Mirrors Edge to discover it was far better than the reports I got from people I know online.
Seriously weird to log in and see Fry and Laurie on the front page... I have been spending my bank holiday weekend doing very little but watching it on DVD...
Beat Bioshock and Robot Ninja Haggle Man 3! So sad that Retro Game Challenge 2 probably won't be coming out here. I may have to learn Japanese for that one.
ohh Fry and Laurie was a damn funny show, especially the bits they always did between skits with the people on the street, laurie always made a good transvestite whereas fry was a crappy pretend woman. the low points were always those skits with "control" and that other character in it, don't remember his name. Anyway, marvel ultimate for me this week, i've never beaten the bloody thing and then maybe i'll get to assassin's creed again

Also, The Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil. More people need to play this! It's a great bullet hell shmup with some seriously incredible music.

Occasional TF2, finished Phoenix Wright: Justice For All (epic but not as good as the first), and starting Dead Rising.
Also started back into Fallout 3, getting to level 11. Feeling a little more confident in my survival skills, but I need to spend a play session reorganizing my gear and buffing up on non-story quests.
Velvet Assassin is that bad huh? Poor Sterling, taking the bullet for us.

Yeah so I've been playing that ... and I like it. It's fucking hard and it's a lot similar to Tenchu in some ways.

Playing Fallout 3 on the PC, Zeno Clash and since Friday a lot of X Men Origins Wolverine since is better than I expected it was a nice suprise.
Infinite Undiscovery...well worth the $10...not worth anymore than that
Braid...a couple of puzzles have been pissing me off...blow is an irritating genius
UFC 09 demo...I actually like it...its fun and all but the submission system is completely flawed
Sonic UGC demo...lots of games on list for $30...alot I would never have payed for in the first place.
Started Pikmin Wii today, fun!
