We all remember Bangers & Mash, and nobody can pretend that they don't. Let us all bask in the nostalgia that we all have for those cheeky apes and their madcap shenanigans. It really doesn't get anymore zany than this, and you can cram it all up the inside of your winking spicehole if you disagree.
Anyway, videogames. We played them. This week, in fact. What fun. Hit the jump for seeing it all about what is inside of it in the it that we have done playing with it and games on the in of it and that.
Chester: Finished up God of War III, so expect a review on Monday (noon Eastern time). Popped in Mass Effect 2 and, while I already played for about an hour, can already tell it's a much better game than the first one. And that's about it really. Mostly preparing for our GDC coverage next week, which is going to be crazy. I already need a nap.
Sterling: Playing Calling for review and it's not very fun. Stopped being scary thirty minutes in and is now just tedious walking and pathetic puzzles. Also been playing No More Heroes because I want to beat that before getting the sequel. It's testing my patience though. I like the main ranking stages, but literally everything else is dogshit. That's about all I've been doing. Gotta clear my plate before Final Fantasy XIII destroys the rest of my month.
H. Bennett: After waking up from a very weird dream I felt completely compelled to re-play Final Fantasy X, so I dusted down the old fat PS2 and did just that. Really forgot how much I loved that game. In my books only FFVIII is better, the game is visually stunning, brilliant story, great characters and the music is so beautiful. Shiva is the sex.
Otherwise these last few days have seen me playing Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing for review, which I have to admit I have really enjoyed. Yes, it is a Mario Kart cookie-cutter but its cute, colourful, fun and is appealing to my inner nerd. God damn I love Ulala..."Spaaaaaace channel 5!"
PerLee: I started playing Persona 3, and I'm at the part where the dog joins my team. I dunno, but coming back after almost a year of not playing was hard. However, I think as soon as Atlus announces Persona 5, I'm all over that.
Devore: Tons of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with Brad and Tdiddy. I'm also a few hours into Deadly Premonition, which has me laughing hysterically every five minutes. Once I figured out you could run through doors rather than taking ten seconds to open them, my only real complaint is that those damn dirty QTEs are easy to mess up.
Tolentino: Lots of Bad Company 2 on this end. Like pretty much everyone else, I am practically enraptured by that game's sound design. There's an incredible sense of scale to the whole affair.
Also, being a medic is a very feel-good job.
Other than that it's been Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed II, both to be dethroned by Final Fantasy XIII and Resonance of Fate in the coming weeks.
North: I'm playing Heavy Rain...and get this: I like it. All y'all haters can suck it. Sure, I may hate it when it's all over, but right now I dig it. I would have named it Heavy Speech Impediment, though.
Tolentino: Play it in French, Dale. We're used to subs anyway!
Aziz: Lots and lots of Modern Warfare 2. I'm only using the Intervention and PPO90 Machine Pistol. Deadly combo!
Concelmo: Still playing Persona 3 FES, which -- given the game's epic length -- I will probably be saying in this post for weeks and weeks to come.
Also, Mega Man 10! AHHHHHH! Loved every second of it. The first Dr. Wily stage is so, so awesome. I really hope Capcom keeps releasing these 8-bit Mega Man games. They really are glorious in every way.
Even though I will be San Francisco next week, I am going to play as much Final Fantasy XIII as I can before I go. And then I get to come back to God of War III. Good times.
Razak: I beat God of War 2 (holy crap) and Uncharted (good, but I like Tomb Raider's puzzles better). Jumped into Uncharted 2 now and if the first 20 minutes say anything it is amazingly more awesome than the original, though I'm a bit put off my Nathan Drake's lack of character development. Hopefully that will change.
Probably going to get Mega Man 10 soon.
Sarkar: I went to an EA event in Manhattan on Wednesday and played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 3D, on three monitors. It was pretty insane, though I don't think I'd pay hundreds of dollars just to have that experience in my house -- it didn't add all that much to the game. There was a bunch of other stuff there, but (A) much of it wasn't playable, and (B) I can't talk about it yet.
Wednesday was also the day I received my review copy of MLB 10 The Show, though I didn't really get to start playing it until Friday. I've already started up Road to the Show as a catcher, and it's pretty fun to call games behind the plate. I need to get better at hitting, though. Unfortunately, the game has some strange loading glitches -- upon loading a new screen (for example, the main menu), it'll often freeze for a few seconds, leading me to wonder if the game crashed. Never seen that before in The Show.
Holmes:Mega Man 10, Mass Effect 2, and the Monster Hunter 3 demo.
Leray: I've been playing the Secret Armory DLC for Borderlands (and enjoying it very much), but I've been spending most of time playing Risen for the Xbox 360. I've put in, probably, 10 hours without so much as scratching the surface of the world or even really getting much stronger. Part of the reason is that Risen is a huge, immersive world; the other part is that it's unintuitive to the point that I've been walking in circles for days now.
I've also been playing FIFA 10 Ultimate Team DLC rounds out the week (also for review). It's, y'know, kind of like regular FIFA 10, but more convoluted. I don't think I "get it."

Meet the rest of the team
Been playing Deadly Premonition , Kirby's Adventure and that's it really. I'm still waiting on Yakuza 3 and I'm probably going to buy a turntable this week. Because I want vinyls and vinyls are cool.
Um ... no. Those of us in the States don't remember Bangers and Mash since it never showed here. :P
Been playing the fsck out of The Saboteur. God damn, that game is incredible! GTA4 + Assassin's Creed + Thief + Splinter Cell = Pandemic's awesome swan song.
I completed Spirit Tracks finally, quite like the use of the 2 screens for the final boss guy but now i have nothing to play on the bus, think I need to get mario and luigi: bowsers inside story.
Played the RE5 DLC and some sonic 3 and knuckles too.
Puzzle Fighter, bitches! I need more people to play on the PS3! Also still finishing up Brutal Legend for trophies and I should be getting Sgt Peppers for Beatles RB. Also, Half Life 2.
Finished Heavy Rain, started a second play through. Its flawed, good, and something I hope gets emulated/iterated, from top to bottom. Looking forward to what they do with DLC.
MEGA MAN 10! Really enjoying it. Taking it in bites. Its been way easier to get into, through Wily's Castle compared to 9 and many others. While I'm not a big fan of Bass, I like that he seems to be working in some of the 16-bit Mega Man moves into the 8-bit paradigm. Very cool.
More Tastunoko vs Capcom, a little DJ Hero and some more time on FFXI (I'm level 11!)
Just finished the stellar MW2 campaign and am less enthused with BFBC2, it doesn't really stack up. Also finally beat the awesome general knoxx but I can find no way to down Crawmerax, dude seems to truly be "Invincible".
Mostly L4D2, trying to wrap up surviving the remaining campaigns on Expert. Also spent some time kicking ass in Versus with Jonathan Ross. That was fun.
Finally got Professor Layton and the Curious Box. As expected. Lots of fun puzzles and interesting story. It is kind of weird that they expect you to use a ticket in the instruction booklet to solve a puzzle, like the letter in StarTropics. 4th-wall breaking and cool in that regards, but kind of a problem for people who buy it used.
@Monodi
How do you find the cheat codes in Drill Dozer? I've had that game for ages and I haven't found them. Do you just look online?
Colette, is it just your affinity for Squall that makes VIII your favorite? There's a plot twist in the game that seems so contrived that just I can't overlook it. I really enjoy the GF system, though. I've been playing through it for years (due to some disc problems), and I just reached Esthar. It's an amazing area.
I've been playing a TON of Persona 4 and I actually beat it this past Friday! That was an amazing moment. I felt actual pangs of heartbreak when I had to say goodbye to Chie, Yukiko, Yosuke, and the rest. I can finally say I see what the big deal is.
Other than that, a little bit of FFVIII as a try to (futilely) make room for XIII.
Also, I've almost got the Wily stages of Mega Man II down to an art.
I don't know yet! I would always look online, but I prefer to follow the traditional way aand find them. Perhaps look online on how to find them by myself.
Replaying FEAR 2; I'm playing on hard and can't get past the second part where you use the Power Armor... then again, actually getting in and using it would help. But I refuse, I will beat this playthrough totally on foot.
@Birthmark Destructor: I honestly hope that you die in a horrible car accident or from AIDs (Though that implies that you've EVER had sex in your life, Which, from your troll status, I'm assured that you have not.) or something. Because you're a huge fucking waste of space and you'd be better off as fertilizer.
Dragon Age: Origins. I have a character I'm finally happy with. My Arcane Warrior is just wrecking faces.
Stupid Bioware and their stupid universes having me addicted. I also started playing the first Mass Effect over. With a character that doesn't look uglier then roadkill. (I have a hard time making decent looking characters)
My week has been all fighters, which are the perfect form of gaming. I moved my PS2 into my living room so that I can play my import PS2 fighters on my HDTV and use my Neo Geo 2 stick. This week has been Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and SFIV. The next week will be mostly SNK as I play more KoFXII and revisit some of the other games in the series.
@Birthmark Destructor: Stop wasting your energy worrying about arbitrary numbers associated with subjective reviews; it's a terrible misuse of your free time.
Hahahah Bangers and Mash was so good; remember that episode where they put a lizard down Petals top and she goes apeshit lol?(no pun intended). Luckily we got most UK cartoons over here in Australia, like Bananaman, Superted and What-A-Mess. Classics.
Bangers and Mash...I just started my replay of Dragon Quest 8 and those are the names of those two kids in the town of Alexandria, me thinks. Some sort of homage or something?
Finished ME2, boy was that awesome!
Also, finished B:BC2 campaign and it was nice and humorous, I am currently enjoying the multiplayer a lot! I'm glad I ditched MW2 for this. I messed around with the Just Cause 2 demo, and really 30 minutes isn't a whole lot.. They give you so much freedom, time flies in that demo.
Also, I've been thinking of purchasing P.B. Winterbottom, enjoyed the trial, but I've read you stumble onto some hard puzzles later on. To download or not to download... that is my question.
I went ahead and got Beautiful Katamari and Pure on Xbox' Games on Demand. Been having tons of fun. Then I got Toy Soldiers, now I've been staying up at 3 am every morning yelling at my friends for flying their plane right into my toy box every chance they get.
Just completed New. Super Mario Bros. Wii (collecting those coins was actually fun). Also got the new achievement on Portal, played some more RA3, more stars as Luigi on Galaxy and I actually booted up TF2 which I have only played a couple of times.
This week I finished ODST, which was brilliant. The story crafting reminded me quite a bit of Boondock Saints, how first they reveal the scene after everything had taken place, and then they tell you exactly what happened, shattering your pre-conceived notions. It's cerebral, exciting, and I really liked it.
I then went out to GameStop to grab up Halo 3 and Halo Wars. I never beat Halo 2, and I kind of hung up that whole series for a very, very long time. ODST made me realize just how much I like the lore and the characters, and the game-play ain't bad, either. It isn't revolutionary, but it's solid, and there are ~60K people online at any given time, so I can always find a match to jump in on. Halo Wars seems solid enough. I'm not a huge RTS person. They just don't jive with me. I'm good enough at them, but they take too fucking long, and the action is fleeting. I got suckered into it through the Waypoint software, though, because I'm a . . . well, I'm a sucker. The games were both free, though, so I'll take'em.
On top of this I also scooped up Gears and Gears 2. Never played them, and I haven't touched 2 yet, because I'd like to finish the first one, but it sure is a hoot. Looks good, too.
Thanks to my man P-Dude I got a PS1 memory card in the mail on Friday and I've been playing the shit out of some MGS1 for the first time and finally losing that MGS virginity I pledged to rid myself of so many years ago.
I really like it. Like a lot. It is insanely frustrating though. In fact it's the first game to frustrate me in 6 years. It's been making me question is the game broken or have I just become spoiled? I've been really thinking about it and I smell a rare opinion based blog brewing inside me.
All in all however it's been amazing. I finally see what all the hype is about and the game has aged incredibly well I must say. With a few design exceptions you could easy throw a new coat of paint over it and I think it would still be really relevant.
This is me making up for my stupid fanboy years. Hurray redemption.
Also, fuck James Cameron, fuck yeah The Hurt Locker.
I've been playing alot this week. I beat all the robot masters in MM10, and haven't yet gone to Wily cus I don't want it to be over. So awesome.
I also bought Deadly Premonition and am really enjoying it so far. Good lord.
I think it inspired me, as I started playing Resi 1 again on my PSP.
I also got a little time in on Fallout 3, which I just recently got. Decent, so far. VATS is fun for dramatic effect.
After that, I still had time for a little bit of Super Mario Galaxy, Pokemon Yellow, and SFIV. Good times. (Good solo times, as my gold ran out boo)
God of War III demo (pretty good, but nothing mind-blowing), beat Mass Effect 2 (they don't make final bosses like the used to...) and restarted Dragon Age as a Human Noble Warrior (a lot less dying is involved for me, which is nice).
Fuck yeah Bangers and Mash! anyway games, Been playing No More Heroes on bitter, Resident Evil, Finished MW2 Spe Ops and Borderlands Secret Armory DLC.
Still playing that fucking Miles Edgeworth game. I like it. I'm on the last case, and I hope to get through it soon so I can write and post an article about the entire Ace Attorney series before God of War III comes out and becomes the only thing anyone (including myself) can talk about. Arbitrarily self-imposing a deadline is fun!
With the occassional games of MAG and AVP online I've just finished up the Alien campaign on Nightmare difficulty and now I'm jumping to the Predator.
Apparently it's 2007 here, cause I just picked up Warhawk so I'm having fun at getting killed in several different ways...and when I find time inbetween dying alot online I'm playing the '07 "classic" The Darkness. Good times.
I had a great week- I just beat Bayonetta on Nonstop Infinite Climax Mode. I'm nowhere near done with that game though- I still need to unlock Jeanne and Zero.
I also downloaded Grandia for my PSP and got started on that. It's only the 3rd time I've played the game.
And I'm catching as many of the little Satanic creatures as I can in Pokemon Emerald and Pearl, getting ready for Heart Gold's release.
I've got about 10 hours into Final Fantasy 13, and must say I've started to really enjoy it. The pacing is just too slow at first, so I'm glad I got into a good groove with it.
I've only known of Bangers & Mash in book form. I feel deprived.
I've finished Stalker: Call of Pripyit, missing out on side missions I wanted to do, so I'll go back to it. I played Spelunky for the first time which is pretty cool for short bursts.
On Saturday I won a copy of Heavy Rain for folding that origami bird faster than some other people. Coincidentally(?), it rained. Folding origami with a wet piece of paper that falls apart in your hands is hard.

yeah...
Besides the usuals as TF2, and CS:S, I started and finished both Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.
I started to replay Drill Dozer because I just discovered there are secrets like a hard mode and customization! (ZOMG)
I am continuing Cave Story, and for the first time today
****SPOILER ALERT****
Did not kill Curly Brace!
I... think that's all.
Been playing the fsck out of The Saboteur. God damn, that game is incredible! GTA4 + Assassin's Creed + Thief + Splinter Cell = Pandemic's awesome swan song.

MIND + PENIS = BLOW
What a deliciously crazy, fun, beautiful game that was. It makes me wonder what DMC4(meh) should've been. Bravo Platinum. On to Hard mode and beyond!
Also some Ace Attorney: Edgeworth and FF13 soon.
I don't know yet! I would always look online, but I prefer to follow the traditional way aand find them. Perhaps look online on how to find them by myself.
Stupid Bioware and their stupid universes having me addicted. I also started playing the first Mass Effect over. With a character that doesn't look uglier then roadkill. (I have a hard time making decent looking characters)
Currently trying to get Half-Life 2 to work and I got $20 to spend on PSN. Any suggestions?
