In honor of Devil May Cry 4 being released this week, here is a video of Nero saying "slam dunk," a whole bunch. If I ever meet the script writer for any of the DMC games, I am going to hug him. The literary quality of the series carries with it a stupidity that verges on gourmet.
It's Sunday night, and that means it's time for the Destructoid staff to confess their sins and tell the world what has been played for the past week. Be sure to let us know what you've been up to as well. Quid pro quo, Clarice, I tell you things, you tell me things.
Hit the jump for more.
Ron Workman: If I told you, your head would implode. One time Jim took me fishing. He showed me how to bait the hook and cast the line. Then, he touched my bathing suit area. Jim is no longer allowed to take people fishing. Also, I told you all that Poker Smash was rad. Next weeks XBLA release isn't going to be nearly as exciting.
Gameboi:Devil May Cry 4 has been my hit of the week. The music, the action, the 22 minute load time on my PS3's hard drive: I love the shit out of this game.
TheGoldenDonut: After beating Dracula for the first time ever in a Castlevania game, The Dracula X Chronicles, I immediately started playing Symphony of the Night so I could (violently) banish him from Earth a second time. I've also finally started playing Final Fantasy X - better late than never - and have been liking it a lot more than I thought I would after hearing people complain about it over the years.
Jim Sterling: For me it's been Devil May Cry 4 all weekend. Certainly not as tough as DMC3 was, but I'm finding chapter 10 and beyond on Devil Hunter mode to be putting up much stiffer resistance. It's a good game, although it's true that Capcom is capable of more. Outside of that, Guitar Hero III has taken up a healthy chunk of time. Superbus' Radio Song is addictive.
Topher Cantler: I got a PS3 this week, and one of the first things I did was create a Japanese account so I could see if they had better stuff than us, which they of course do. I've been playing Every Day Together, starring the Sony cat Toro and friends, and it's amazing how something so utterly stupid can be so entertaining. I also spent some time with Everyday Shooter and Ratchet & Clank Future.
Niero: Gitaroo Man! I pulled it out of the closet because I missed arthritis deeply. I also recommend Devil May Cry 4 -- it's pretty and mostly entertaining despite the redundant door puzzles and cheesy dialog/voice acting. I will never forget playing the early Japanese demo of DMC which did not have any of the stupid "slam dunk" voiceovers OR the stupid colorful combo system that totally sucks the atmosphere out of what could have been a more poignant and stylish action game. To me its like making the lead in Resident Evil 4 scream "tubular!" on headshots. Ridiculous. I'm also looking forward to playing some old shooters this weekend: Gaiares and Fire Shark on the Genesis.
Chad Concelmo: You know what you can't do when working a seven day week? Play videogames! In the little time I had, I played some more of the totally underrated (and totally tubular) LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. I also teased myself by playing the opening sequence of Super Metroid. I hope to play through that masterpiece again (for the millionth time) later this week.
Joe Burling: I finally received my copy of Burnout Paradise (360) so you'll be seeing me play a lot of that this week. Up until now, I've resorted to demos and getting hands-on time with friends. I also purchased Rez HD. First of all, I love this game. Second, if you haven't tried hooking up an extra controller or two yet, do it immediately! When I felt my back vibrate along with the music, but at a different beat than the controller in my hands, I felt like Jim Sterling unwrapping a shiny new monocle. I'm usually not into gimmicks (like using your PSP as a rear view mirror) but this one actually works! Try it! Also, as expected, I've been playing Barbie on the NES.
Faith: This week I've been entranced by World of Warcraft and its 10 day trial version. I made a human rogue named Phayth and a warrior scourge named Fausta. I haven't got any farther than level 10 with my rogue and I still haven't figure out the basic process of mining and such. I am such a newbie.
Also this week I've been playing Cooking Mama 2 on my Nintendo DS, Paper Mario on the Virtual Console and Devil May Cry 4 on Xbox 360. I'm stuck on DMC4 already. I can't figure out the gyro puzzle in the castle. I gotta say I love the heavy metal soundtrack on the game though. Wicked cool tunes.
Husky Hog: I was going to try and keep this a secret but no longer. My name is Husky Hog, and I play World of Warcraft. I finally had the change to complete my quest to reach the maximum level of any MMORPG I started. Finally, this past Tuesday, at around 9:15 in the PM, I achieved this goal. Now I'm the proud owner of a level 70 Tauren Shaman, and a lot more happy in the pants.
BlindsideDork: I've been sticking with my usuals this week. Team Fortress 2, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, and of course Turok. My gaming feels complete. But maybe I will start a new title next week.
Hamza Aziz: I've been playing a ton of BioShock. I'm really hooked now and just love it. And Halo 3 for FNF, which actually sucked this week.
Grim: I recently got Space Channel 5, which is a much harder game than I thought it would be. Seriously, it cheats! I also went back to Gears of War for FNF and found out that most of my skill for the game had disappeared, but I still had fun. Ron and Savant couldn't stop saying good things about Poker Smash, so I finally caved in and bought it. It's gotta be one of the best XBLA games out there, no lie.
Nick Chester: Turok. Spiderwick Chronicles on the DS, Xbox 360, and Wii. Burnout Paradise. PixelJunk Monster. Rock Band. Waiting on hold with Comcast for over an hour because my Internet connection stopped working. Not having working Internet. Crying.
Jonathan Holmes: Picked Up Dewy's Adventure for the Wii, which is down to $20 new at Gamestop. Go but it, for real. The graphics are awesome and the game play is more Monkey Ball than any Monkey Ball game to date.
Also got Battalion Wars Wii. It's not that bad, but I should have waited for it to also drop to the $20 range. This Smash Bros Brawl delay has got me going out of my head to play something, anything to keep me from obsessing over the game. I actually spent more hours this week watching people play Brawl on NicoNico and Youtube than I did playing video games myself.

Meet the rest of the team
A $20 Dewy's Adventure is very tempting... Thanks for the heads up Tron Knotts.
I've been playing the hell out of No More Heroes, and currently am ranked 3. Going to try to finish it up tonight, then I'm looking forward to playing through it a second time. I'm pissed that I missed one trading card on the 5th ranked assassin though.
For me I've been playing a little COD4 almost on my 3rd prestiege.
But the majority of my time has been spent with my shiney new dual shock 3 controller for my PS3 and DMC4. So far so good, been getting re-aclimated to the game since I haven't played one since DMC2. I just got to the part where you switch to Dante and decided to save him for another day.
I've been banned from playing my consoles this week, so I've been playing the Half Life 2 episodes with the commentary on (I'm only about halfway through ep. 1), and I also picked up Phantom Hourglass again and forced myself through the sixth revisit to the Temple run on sentence run on sentence. I'm also currently try WTF HOLY CRAP MY COMPUTER JUST SCREAMED AT ME. Niero, are there any weird audio ads left from the ad-drama? Anyway, I'm trying to beat the final song on Elite Beat Agents on three-star difficulty.
It took over a year, but I FINALLY went back and beat Resistance: Fall of Man last night. It had the most predictable ending on the planet, and it went something like this (SPOILARZ!!!!)
It was one of those “Sgt. Hale couldn’t possibly have survived that explosion...or could he?” endings, and then, of course, you find out that he did. How lame.
Aside from that, I’m still hooked on CoD 4 online — I just ranked up to level 52 today and unlocked the MP44. Seriously, is that not the worst choice they could’ve made for the last weapon to be unlocked? Its recoil makes it absolutely useless (I felt the same way about the M14). I’m sticking with the G3; it has very little recoil, and with Stopping Power, three to four shots are all you need for a kill (barring Juggernaut).
Also, I started a Rock Band drum career (Medium); my character is named (no joke) “Ron NSFWorkmeng”.
Already beat DMC4, way too easy. I hate these people that bitched about DMC3 being hard and didn't even understand how the enemies or defensive moves in the game worked. They should have the 3rd difficulty setting unlocked from the start with 4 and have an achievement for beating that first.
I didst not know that. However, 360s are for frat boys and single dads* so Id rather play the PS version as ive always played DW on them...it would feel wrong playing on any other.
*Jokes!I aint a mindless fan boy, but I dont have a 360 either. Anywho...PC PLAYA' FO LIFE BOI
Well, I've been tooling around in Fable: TLC a little bit, and starting a darkside run. In an effort to make myself less of a fattie, I purchased a copy of DDR, which finally arrived after a short nightmare of mix-ups and eBay stupidity. I'm amazingly uncoordinated, but no more so than I was prepared for.
I also shaved my mustache off today, and now my upper lip is freezing. Shoot.
I've been hooked on my handhelds. Yggdra Union (which I bought the day it came out and still have yet to beat) was my biggest time sink, with Advance Wars: Days of Ruin not far behind with all my online matches and map making. Toss in a touch of Super Robot Wars: Original Generation 2, Devil May Cry 3[i/] because I feel I need to finish it before I get DMC4, and working on a second playthrough of [i]Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and you have my week. Oh, and for today, it was Professor Layton and the incredibly obvious yet unsolvable riddles that make me feel stupid.
Due to having beaten NMH and also due to the Brawl delay, I needed a quick fix of some sort and found P.N.0.3. for the Gamecube. It's delightfully bland and awkward sci fi.
Also stuck in level 6 of Ninja Gaiden and level 2 of Shinobi 3 on the VC. My reflexes and skills are not very ninja.
And I finally NOT downloaded a NOT SNES emulator and NOT ROM of NOT Earthbound that I've NOT been playing obsessively. The village of Mr. Saturn's is so strange. 0_o
Probably finishing up Chrono Trigger this week or next, and on top of that I've got Advance Wars DoR (currently on mission 20) and then Professor Layton, which I'll probably pick up later this week. On the PC side of things, just got Sins of a Solar Empire today, so I'll continue diving into that. Moving on to the 360, I still need to finish up Gears, so that may happen this week, and I'll probably also pop open some Rez HD (<3).
I've been trying to get caught up on the stack of Phoenix Wright games sitting at my bedside and get through Call of Juarez on the 360. I polished off the last of the COD4 achievements and started playing some Halo 3 online. Played up to a 46 in Team Slayer, but I could really use some actual teammates to get up any higher. Other than that, I've been playing Shadowrun when I get the time and wishing I didn't suck at it so hard.
Phew it's been a slight mix of things, from Turok (medicore yet enjoyable) and DMC4 (completely worth the wait I had to endure for the damned thing) to Rez HD (god I wish I did drugs..I really do) with Assassin's Creed for DS (now with 60% more Prince of Persia gameplay..) rounding out my busy gaming week n.n
COD4 as usual along with Poker Smash witch as Ron said is fucking awesome. I've also been going back through and playing Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II, Populous and Power monger not emulated style. I'm going through most of the old games just for the hell of it except for populous which Niero reminded me of the other day. Shitty fucking memory FTL.
Some flying in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Made a review and everything, go check it out in my communist blog.
Had a very busy week, on weekends it gets worse and I even had to work on Saturday...
Maybe it will rain more this week so I wont be playing so much tennis (i suck at it), and maybe, just maybe if STEAM finishes the update, I will play some Lost Planet for the PC (free copy with my nvidia).
I decided this weekend to take a Dtoid vacation and STFUAJPGs. I put about 20 hours into Oblivion which I hadn't played in months. A bug stopped me from being able to join the Thieves Guild, but I made it to Grand Champion in the Arena. It's too bad you can't enchant those raiments further... If I could just put a feather effect on them I'd be set.
The writing in DMC4 isn't meant to be good, so basically if they're in the writers room and someone says something really cheesy, it's going straight in.

HAHAAHAHHAHA
ok, I'm done.

Jim can I be your player 2?
I played a small amount of Siverfall this week and not much else. Damn uni deadlines.
Also bursts of Rock Band here and there.
Bad ass.

I made a new game on FF 7 because its been like a year and a half since I last played ( I need to beat this game gezz)

Yup, it's been Civ 4 all weekend. A lot of Civ 4...

Bioware games are always so incredibly intriguing.
I'm so ready for the Mass Effect DLC.
And I'm back on small doses of Lumines.
Gonna wait for DMC 4 to go down in price. The writing is so terrible I don't know if I could make it through the whole game.

Castlevania SoTN PS3/PSN
Gears of War PC
Resistance: Fall of Man PS3
Maybe I should start a petition, or maybe a contest?
I haven´t had much time this week.
Also stuck in level 6 of Ninja Gaiden and level 2 of Shinobi 3 on the VC. My reflexes and skills are not very ninja.

Nero is just a baller; what else can we say?
Also I've been playing smash bros melee; brawl can't come out soon enough
Yea, that's what I thought. He got game. Now I can't wait for his spot in EA's NBA Ballers and an episode of Cribs.

Also, Pandora's Box for best weapon ever.
B,S&J:Gaiden of course.
Finally got a new video card. I had sold my 8800GTS back in November when the 8800GTs came out. Didn't have the cash to order one until now.
So with that, I've been playing TF2 (300 parodies ftw), Crysis, and Movie Battles, a Jedi Academy mod.
