Quantcast

Because really, it still remains the greatest scene in film history. Ever.

In a surprising twist, the editors of gaming blogs actually play videogames sometimes. Every week, we allow ourselves the self-indulgence of telling you what we've been playing. Then we allow you the pleasure of replying and telling us what you've been playing too. We don't read them though, because we don't appreciate our fanbase. Hating on the fans is the new cool thing to do, I've heard.

Just kidding, we love each and every one of you! Just don't touch me if you ever see me in the street, okay? I'll talk to you if I have to, but I won't be contaminated by my disgusting public. Starscream would agree with me, if he were alive today.

Gameboi: As you might have guessed, I've been having a blast with the not so pretty, but oh so fun game of No More Heroes. It satisfied my need to relive Kill Bill scenarios on a 19" screen via the Wiii. I can now mark that off my things to do before I die. I still haven't found a midget that spouts Chewbaccas's lines from Star Wars yet -- while dressed like Elvira -- but I'm working on that one.

Joe Burling: My week consisted of Puzzle Quest, Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, and Assassin's Creed. The ending to Assaasin's Creed was bitter-sweet, in my opinion. I finally understand why the reviews of the game are so controversial.

Nick Chester: I've been mostly playing the Pack All of My Crap Into Boxes game, because I'll be moving tomorrow. Of course, all of the consoles go last, so I have been playing some other titles. I've been slowly coming to terms with Burnout Paradise, and now that I'm not as overwhelmed by its open world, I'm starting to get the hang of it. I've nearly completed Doom RPG on my cell phone, which only took me two years. And I've been playing PixelJunk Monsters on the PS3 and the PSP, via remote play; this is a rather addictive "must buy" for anyone who owns a PS3.

Topher Cantler: Twinbee on the NES, super happy naked time with my Dreamcast, The Club demo and Metal Slug 3 on the 360, and then crashing a lot in Burnout Paradise and watching my children die horrible deaths in Pixel Junk Monsters on the PS Triples. Goddamn sasquatches.

Faith: This week I played Burnout Paradise with a friend of mine on the PS3 and he kicked my butt numerous times over.  I suck at racing games.

I also played the Devil May Cry 4 demo on Xbox 360, Puzzle Quest and Undertow for XBLA and Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii.

And last night I hit the local midway for some fun arcade action where I played Carnival King, Police Training, Skee Ball, EldoradoLizard ball, Stacker, Music Beat, Hoops, Typhoon racer, Wheel of Fortune, some ball racing game, some Sega racing game, and some ball drop game.

I won 1007 tickets and which brought my grand total up to 7029 tickets. Too bad there's never anything good to win there. 17,000 tickets for a Nintendo Wii. 39,000 tickets for a Xbox 360.

Jim Sterling: The Devil May Cry 4 demo was my main flavor this week, interspersed with some Bladestorm and Warriors Orochi. Add a few slices of Guitar Hero III mixed with a generous spoonful of CoD4 and you've baked yourself one tasty game cake. Just don't add that five minutes of Undertow to the mix unless you want to be sick into a little bag.

Chad Concelmo: After finally finishing Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, I swam around some more in Endless Ocean, traveled through the Glacial Fortress in Omega Five, and started up the epic and oh-so-amazing Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. That's right; I have a Post Scriptum Triple now and I love every sold-my-first-child-to-get-one part of it!

Grim: For whatever reason I can't stop playing Undertow at 3:00 a.m. even though I don't like the game at all. Throughout the week, I've also been going back to some awesome 2D games like Samurai Shodown V, Metal Slug 5 (what's up with the last boss?), Captain Commando, and Battle Circuit.

Husky Hog: You know I was going to try and not mention this, unfortunately I just can't keep it to myself any longer. For the past week I've been playing World of Warcraft. Sad, I know, yet the thought that I've never reached the highest level of any MMO I've ever played has been taunting me from the back of my head. With just four levels to go, I hope I can end this unhealthy addiction once and for all.

Hamza Aziz: I think I'm responsible for helping COD 4 overtake Halo 3. The one day I finally decided to play COD 4 online, they announce the very next day that it has overtaken Halo 3. Also, Ron loves to knife people in the game. Psycho ...

Also, Halo 3.

TheGoldenDonut: I've been playing a lot of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin this week, it's been my first experience with the Advance Wars series and now I know what I've been missing.  Aside from that I've also been playing a little Halo 3 and Dead Head Fred.

Jonathan Holmes: Grim, I believe the last boss of Metal Slug 5 is in fact the devil. Remember the evil mask cult from earlier in the game? They are devil worshipers.

Or did you mean "what's up with the last boss?" in the "Why am I dying every second and unable to get any hits on this guy" way? If so, then the only answer I have is "After Metal Slug 3, the Metal Slug games got much worse."

As for my games this week, it was No More Heroes and Harvey Birdman on the Wii, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Shenmue, and Seaman on the Dreamcast.  Had to do a comparison to see if it was fair for me to say that No More Heroes looks like a Dreamcast game. I found that not only did No More Heroes and Shenmue look a lot alike, but they both have random kitten petting sequences, painful in-game jobs, and large open environments with almost nothing to do in them. And yet, I love both games to tears.

Ron Workman: Baill in a cup, COD4 (Dominates everything), Undertow (which is pretty and has great sound and effects but is still terrible, but free) [Demos] Devil May Cry 4, The Club, Turning Point: FOL. I have been in demo heaven lately.

Brad Rice: I don't know if you'd call it a "game," but going through the immigration process in Japan sure was fun. Did you know, they have DS games in coin drop machines? But in my time on the plane, I've been playing Scourge: Hive, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, and Contact. When the power in my handhelds went out, I had to turn to the airplane showing The Game Plan and reading The Road. The Game Plan only affirms my belief that The Rock is the next great actor of our generation.

BlindsideDork: Nintendo has been good to me. Despite the small flaws with No More Heroes, I am loving the gaming experience. Wish I could say the same about my recent experiences with the Xbox 360. I did play a little Rock Band at a friend's place and still amazed at how easy the bass is on most songs and how precise you have to be with the drums. But other than that, I am still kicking it on the go with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

Colette Bennett: I think I played the final round of "Buy shit for the new apartment" this weekend, which is good because I am really tired of being in retail stores at this point. Beyond that all I've really played is the Devil May Cry 4 demo, which I liked quite a bit, and my usual rounds of Puzzle Quest, with a little bit of time saved for a replay of Chrono Trigger inspired by a Memory Card Chad did a few weeks ago.

Orcist: Not much for me. A little Persona 3 when I get a chance, and still plugging through Phantom Hourglass on the road. However, my new computer just arrived, so I smell some Sam and Max in my near future.

Tell us, tasty readers, what you've been playing this week. TELL US!

I totally understand Grim's position on Undertow. I hate it so much, and yet I've cleared the first three missions in one sitting.

I played me some Samurai Champloo on the PS2 this weekend, in between interstitials of Burnout Paradise and Spiderman 3.

Peggle, GTA: San Andreas, Outrun 2006, a little Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon, a little Metroid Prime Pinball, and a little Raid Circuit City For Incredible Deals On PC Games Because Holy Shit $20 And Under Titles Were Half Off And A Lot Of Games Were Already Marked Way Down But Not Labelled Correctly So They Were Still On The Shelf Waiting To Be Bought And This Sale Made Them Even Cheaper.

Oh and Cue Ball Wizard, the actual pinball machine. Because I found out theres' a kickass arcade at my local mall now.

@Orionsaint:

I hear that exclusive game you play on the 360 is quite popular.

Me..I've been playing a cheap game I got for Cristmas for the PS2 that is flawed yet strangely addicting called Raw Danger. Don't laugh.

@Topher: You have a PS3?! Get Everyday Shooter (I’m assuming you already bought it, though)!

@Chad: Congrats on getting a PS3...now go buy Uncharted, if you haven’t done so already, as well as Everyday Shooter. You won’t regret it; they’re both AMAZING!

As for me, I pwned n00bz in CoD 4 and Warhawk during FNF, and I also managed to play enough CoD 4 at other times to level up to Brigadier General and unlock the Deagle. I also played the demos of Devil May Cry 4 and The Club; I loved the former, but the latter was underwhelming (see my comment on Jim Sterling’s blog).

I finally got back together with Bumpy Trot, until I died AGAIN after not saving for a few hours. So that's probably on hold for a bit.

Otherwise TF2 has been particularly awesome this last week. I've been playing Chocobo Tales on DS, which is possibly the most infuriating game ever at times. BUT IT'S SUPAR CUTE AND HAS CARD COLLECTION!

Oh, and BARKLEY SHUT UP AND MOTHERFUCKING JAM GAIDEN.

Just beat No More Heroes, after getting it on Wednesday. Truly, a righteous game experience, and probably very worthy of discussion on RetroForce GO, because in a lot of ways, it FEELS retro.

That and WoW.

Pokemon Diamond, and lots of Halo 3 this weekend. Not much else. I have jumped into little tidbits of Guitar Hero and Forza, but it's usually like a 5 minute thing before I get bored.

Not much time for gaming. This weekend was enough of a good time for me to be satisfied. SNF FTW!!!

I used to have that scene memorized.
I just beat Jet Grind Radio, so I'm going through it again to try to nab all the graffiti souls. Getting blown up repeatedly in Virtual On: Orotorio Tangram. Still playing Neo Geo Battle Colliseum and KOFXI. Think I might pick up Metal Slug Anthology if I can find a cheap used copy.

I set aside Pokémon Pearl finally, having never beaten the Elite Four. Still, I have Phoenix Wright and Lunar Knights to play on my DS, and BioShock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to play on my Xbox 360, so it's not like I have nothing to fill the time. That is, if I wasn't sending in my 360 for repair, again.

I fucking love you, Jim.

Even after all these years, I still can't believe that Galvatron just fucking vaporized Starscream

As for me...

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - The game is great. But I know my momentum will soon run out on it, just like all the other Advance Wars games that I've left unfinished.

From the Abyss - Neat little Dungeon Crawl that just came out in Japan. It's pretty import friendly and fun to boot. In the 3rd Abyss.

FolkLore - I really do love this game. I just can't seem to get up the energy to play past the opening 'Prologue' segment.

Blue Dragon - Just ended the first disc, The game surprised me a little, I thought I'd hate it and I actually don't

Shining Force EXA - Another game that pretty much blindsided me. I'm surprised that I actually like it as much as I do. On the 10th chapter out of 15.

With the release of Burnout Paradise and me having no money, I went back and started all over again on Burnout 3: Takedown. Good 'ol crash mode, how I love thee.

Then the DMC4 demo came out and rocked my socks, and since Friday I've been on a FF7 spree. Just reached the Golden Saucer.

Call of Duty 4 mostly I guess. Really need to step that shit down... Played a game of Soldier of Fortune 2 yesterday because Sweden needed my service in a nations cup. It's hard as hell switching between two very different FPS games in all honesty!

Spent some time on Shoot The Core downloading shmups but didn't get much actual playtime, that's what this week is for. As a sidenote, that website makes me cry by tempting me with all those awesome looking games but having all download buttons direct me to websites where I can understand and find fuckall. Is there no kinder shmup resource to us who only know this alphabet...? Topher? :(

@Torzelan: You might want to check out the Touhou project games.

Getting lost in Burnout Paradise, pegging blocks in Peggle, and living vicariously through supervillians in Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

To add additional realism to Burnout, I occasionally have my girlfriend yell stuff like "we're lost again, aren't we" or "just pull over and ask for directions!" It's almost as real as Grand Tourismo.

I continued playing Folklore a bit this weekend as well. Awesome, awesome game.

I played the DMC4 demo and thought it was fantastic. I can't wait for it to come out. I also downloaded Super Stardust last night after trying out the demo.

SO, I've been immersed in Ratched and Clank all weekend, and it's been amazing. But I also found some time to replay Guitar Hero III since I had to trade in my Wii version for the PS3 version. And last but not least, a little MotorStorm action to keep the adrenal glands happy.
