Today we celebrate Fleet Admiral Firmus Piett, the greatest character in all of Star Wars and my personal hero. As one of the few Imperial officers to escape death long enough to appear in two Star Wars films, he was also the only one to be played by the same actor twice. Know why? He's bloody legendary, that's why.
Anybody to be promoted to Admiral in The Empire Strikes Back and survive execution until past the end is an icon in my book. I'm not even a big Star Wars fan, but I have to hand it to my main man Piett. He's a survivor, and a class act through and through.
Also, we played games this week. You must hit the jump to found out how and why.
Colette: I'm playing Pack Up All Your Shit and Move in Four Days! It's great. Either I'll beat it by Wednesday or I'm homeless. Also, I'm still playing Persona 3, which has the best game soundtrack since Taiko Drum Master.
Hamza: Been playing a ton of Halo 3 when Live permits it. I also finally popped in Call of Duty 4. I was thinking it was pretty bland until the ship in the first level gets hit and starts tipping over. I don't know why, but I just thought it was amazing. I also felt ... bad I guess when me and my troops were taking out the ships guards including the ones that were asleep.
Savant: Good lord have I got myself tied up in so many different places right now, it's not even funny! Right now, I'm experiencing what I like to call "Multi-game-in-progritis." It is both a blessing and a curse of a disease with no known cure, save a needed attention span. *Takes a deep breath* Here we go! I am currently playing Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, The Orange Box, Ridge Racer 6, Rage Racer, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Oracle of Ages, and The Simpsons Game.
Oh, and did I mention I just downloaded Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and Gate of Thunder off the Wii VC recently? No? Well now I did. So, as you can see, I've been just a smidge busy.
Jim: I've been playing through the weary Rainbow Six: Vegas which is good but draining, Stranglehold which can't hold my attention for long, Halo 3 which is not as good as CoD4, and Guitar Hero III, which I can't play on medium yet because I have the coordination of a baby.
Faith: I checked out Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom and the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements demo on the Xbox 360. Might and Magic sucked. Just another Oblivion wanna be, but Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom was pretty good.
The only game I really did play for long periods of time was Puzzle Quest on XBLA. Been pretty busy this week with working and appearing on TV for another 15 minutes of fame. :)
TheGoldenDonut: My PSP has actually been getting quite a bit of playtime this week thanks to Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles and Final Fantasy, both of which are pretty nice remakes. I've also been trying to get the online achievements for Naruto: Rise of a Ninja but the people playing in the ranked category are just way too good.
Nick: I'm playing a list of games that would make you think it's still 2007: Call of Duty 4, Puzzle Quest, Super Mario Galaxy, etc.
It also looks like I'm going to have to bone-up on my Smash Bros. skills, so I may go out and pick up a copy of Melee tonight. Word on the street is that there's a Destructoid vs. GoNintendo Brawl tournament in the works ...
Chad: I just beat The Simpsons Game. I thought the game was hilarious, but the whole experience felt kind of broken to me. I don't know. Also played a little of the addictive Alien Crush and Devil Crush (amazing!) and restarted Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (I love this series more than words).
Husky: I've been playing Super Mario galaxy now that I have the console all to myself. I was delightfully surprised when I accidentally made Mario start to ice skate. That has to be the best thing he's ever done in a game... it was.... Amaaaaaaaaazing!
Gameboi: When time permits, I've been taking Uncharted: Drakes Fortune for a few spins. Other than that, I've toyed around with DK: Jungle Climber.
Ron: KUD:CoD, CoD4, Rock Band, Jim Sterling masturbation simulator 5000, Halo 3 and Forza 2.
Grim: Still working my way through Eternal Sonata. I also got Forza Motorsport 2 for extremely cheap, but I fail at the game horribly. Finally, there's Metal Slug 3. Believe it or not, Snaileb and I actually had a good co-op session with very little lag, and it was freakin' awesome.
Dyson: First off, there are a few games that I'm not playing this week, but would like to. The reason for this is because my stupid friend won't let me have "our" Wii back, so I can't finish goddamn Mario Galaxy. Friend = Worthless. I did manage to borrow the Orange Box and have become addicted to Portal. I also have Mass Effect on deck, but have once again succumbed to the siren song of awesomeness that is Okami.
Niero: Mass Effect, eternally. I'm proud that I finally finished 8th mix of Rhythm Tenguko and now my life is complete. I'm also working painfully through Syobon Action because it nostalgically reminds me of when I was a little kid someone slammed a piano cover on my finger and my nail came off completely off. I had this brown puss-filled nugget for a fingertip for about half a year before a new nail grew out. I also played Area 51: Blacksite on the PS3 for about 30 seconds before meaty chunks hurled at the console from my projectile vomit caused it to reset.
Jonathan: Been under the weather this week, which has led to a lot of gaming short bursts. I can only go about a half an hour of looking at anything before I need a nap or my eyes start to hurt. This condition has led to a return to Phoenix Wright 3 and Zack and Wiki. Both can be very fun, even if played for only 20 minutes at a time. Since both games have such dry gameplay, they make a point to surprise, amaze, or amuse every couple minutes or so just to keep you from quiting.
Also tried Puzzle Quest on the Wii. The game's text is so small that it becomes nearly unplayable. Tragedy.
Finally, I just got Neo Geo Battle Coliseum for the PS2 after hunting for it for over two weeks. Hopefully I'll get a review or a Bargain Bin Laden up about the game this week. At $20, the game would fit in either category.
Brad: I was given Hellgate: London as a Christmas present, and thanks to the onboard graphics card of my laptop, I had no choice but to trade it in for a copy of The Orange Box. Can't really complain. Unfortunately, many train rides have kept me from my delicious cake, leaving me with Disgaea pawing at me for attention, like some hungry kitten.
For me, it's been CoD4 on Veteran. At first it was a challenge. Now it's just cheap.

I haven't played any video games this past week. :'(
That soundtrack that comes with it is golden. A few of the tracks made sweet ringtones.
Shut the hell up. "Veteran" is the reason I no longer have a (living) cat.
/sarcasm
COD4 for me (had to reformat and restart from LVL1 for the THIRD time, Chrissakes). Some TF2, after FNF got me back in the habit. Maybe I'll go back and bargain-bin myself some old game - Brothers In Arms, Fable, stuff like that.
And, by god, Hamza, that is the shortest "until" I've ever heard.
I too love the Fire Emblem series. I've put more time into it over the past two weeks than any other game this year and still have more to go. It's like crack to me.
I also just played CoD4 for the first time today and it was pretty rad.
COD4 (Single Player is really amazing, and I'm still getting into multiplayer, rank 16 or so),
Viva Pinata (Yeahh, I'm a year late),
GH3 ( I'm almost at the point where I can play hard, but I am too pussy to take the plunge),
Mass Effect (level 15ish, it's pretty fun),
WoW (Playing the new 30-40 content added in the latest patch, having a nice time.)
In Persona 3, I made it to Dec 31 and made the big decision. Obviously, I manned up and decided to fight for another month. Now I need to bring that dumb dog up to a good level and plow through enough of Tartarus so that I don't get slaughtered at the end.
Still trying to beat Contra 4 on Normal. I can make it to level 4 without a continue, which is a lot for someone who hasn't touched a Contra since the 80's.
Lastly, I want to play Zack and Wiki. I haven't touched it since Christmas because it's on my dad's HDTV, and that's his third child now, and he's been busy playing Mario and Metroid.
This is why I hate bringing my Wii home on weekends, let alone winter break.
Uhm, it's been Rock Band for me mostly, my friends come over (bums) we jam.
I can never afford more than one game because I have no job.
But uh, CoD4 rented out.
:[
sorry, it was from my heart...
so I'll continue Phantom Hourglass I suppose. hopefully I can beat it by this weekend. so I can finally get around to Zack and Wiki
right NOW i'm playing Halo 3 multi and Eternal Sonata at home, and some Rock Band at work. i really should just man up and finish Assassin's Creed and Bioshock, both of which i'm only like a few hours away from beating. eh, one of these days.
I also played a bit more Zack and Wiki before my Wii went tits up and is now being shipped off for repair. I hope they manage to fix it.
Also, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 a little bit.
O. More Magical Drop III than you can possibly imagine.
Oh, and Animal Crossing:WW on the DS. One year playing and still pick it up everyday!
O.M.G.!
