Yes, Hollywood is making another videogame movie and this one actually looks pretty awesome! The movie is called Gamerand shows us what the future of MMO gaming.
Mind-control technology is the hotness in the future and humans use other humans to play out massive multiplayer online games. Michael C. Hall (who plays Dexter in the amazing show, Dexter) is Ken Castle in the movie and he has created the game called "Slayers" in which gamers use death row inmates as their avatars. If their "avatar" survives more than 30 matches, they're set free.
The movie also stars Gerard Butler (King Leonidas from 300) and he's just three games shy of being set free. He was taken from his family, wrongly imprisoned and is forced to fight to get back to the people he loves.
So it's basically Huxley meets Death Race. Typically, movies about videogame franchises suck. But when the movie is about videogames in general (Press Start and Grandma's Boy), they're usually pretty good. I'm actually looking forward to Gamer when it hits theaters on September 4.

i wonder if they will have a backstory about how they have to grind endless hours to get mats for potions and other goodies. and then raid to get the proper gear setup for PvP? It will suck without that part of modern MMOs And the classes look balanced, but all the same. what..no heelies or Tanks. everyone just looks like a Ranged DPS. how are they to hold the players interest with only one class to choose from. and you cant customize your toon at all. its missing so many things, it will never beat WoW like this. :)

I heard from early screening coverage that Gerard Butler doesn't speak a single word for the first 20 minutes. This movie could really go either way in my opinion, but I'm hoping for a fun action flick with clever nods to the gaming industry.
This looks retarded, what kind of kid plays games using real people? And what the heck is with the 3d motion controls? The kid controlling Gerard must be as good as fighting as he is seeing how everything Gerard does the kid does also. What ever happened to good ol shooters? Are computer games obsolete or something?

The dude who plays Dexter is in it? Automatic win. I'm undecided about whether it will succeed more as an action film or an unintentional comedy but I liked the trailer.
