Gamer Grub? What? Seriously? photo

With TGS looming and a bunch of extra-curricular assignments keeping me busy, I've not been around much this weekend, so I'm a little behind. However, I really don't know quite how I missed Gamer Grub, a snack that claims to be engineered by a "sometimes gamer" for people like us. Well, not people like us per se. Gullible people like us. That's better.

Gamer Grub is a great tasting snack that boosts your core gaming systems—such as visual input, cognitive processing, signal transmission and muscle reflexes. Scientifically formulated with essential nutrients and vitamins, Gamer Grub provides a healthy, great tasting snack mix that supports fast reaction times for maximum gaming performance. Eat well and prosper.

If you're a regular reader of Penny Arcade, then you will likely have already seen their reaction to this rather cringeworthy bit of demographic headhunting, but I feel we need to immortalize this so-called "grub" in our own archives. In trying to make the snacks somehow relevant to gamers, the flavors are awkward mash-ups of videogame genres and contemporary foodstuffs. Because the term "Strategy Chocolate" somehow makes sense when you're throwing random words around in a board room.

Maybe I expect too much of my snacks, but I want something more robust than "Action Pizza" and "Sports PB&J." One could argue that it's pedantic to demand some kind of grounded reasoning in the naming of food -- I would argue that calling your snack "Racing Wasabi" should have you put on some sort of offender's register.

If I'm going to be patronized, I want to be patronized sensibly. And yes, that blurb I posted did say "Eat well and prosper."

@John B: True, but Code Red was more or less heralded as a drink for the geek crowd. Why everybody apparently thought that, I have no idea, but the notion of dorkfüd seems to have caught on.

I like Hummus. And Peanut Butter. And Raman noodles. And Chips. Can we have gamer-centric flavors of those please?

I ate some of this at E for All. It was fine, but I agree, the idea in general is stupid. I can eat regular food like a regular person too.

@kittwalker

Please shoot him. If I walk into any components shop and see this crap I fear I may go Postal, and I REALLY don't want to play that crap again.

OBJECTION! I am adding this to my list of evidence in my ongoing case against the term "gamer".

Wasabi? Is that a popular flavor somewhere?

I might could be tempted to try this once, as a sort of novelty thing, but for the most part I think I'd rather stick to actual pizza and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, thanks. (Not at the same time, of course, because that sounds disgusting.)

Let me just look at the website there...

GUNS AND PIZZA, WHAT ELSE IS THERE? (Ingredients: Pizza Cashews & Pitas, Tomato Sesame Sticks, Tomato Almonds, Cheese Pitas and Mozzarella Peanuts)

Umm...

BUCKLE UP DOROTHY, IT'S A ZESTY BLEND OF WASABI GOODNESS. (Ingredients: Wasabi Soy Almonds and Peanuts, Wasabi Peas, Honey Mustard Sesame Sticks and Pita Chips)

What...

SMOOTH BLEND OF CHOCOLATE AND CHERRIES FOR TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION. (Ingredients: Almonds, Chocolate Raisins, Cherries, White Chocolate Chips)

The...

WOW! PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES, IN A CAN! (Ingredients: Peanuts, Peanut Butter Chips, Strawberry Jelly Chips, Bread Cubes)

Fuck...?

Okay, I take it back about being tempted to try this. I don't want to touch this shit with a 10-foot pole.

Isn't this what Bawlz was doing for energy drinks?

Bawlz...

Now that i think about it, the gamer grub cannister hangs pretty low like... some kind of snake/turtle kneck combo.

Bawlz and this make one awesome genital-like combo.

I saw this on the news the other night.

Pretty stupid. They said it's not greasy, so your keyboard or controller won't be covered with crap.

I don't even eat while I play games, thus, I don't give a fuck about Gamer Grub.
