Gamer crafts abound: The Guitar Hero foot pedal photo
     AMAZING

It seems like gamers have been super crafy this week, between the reNESED, ridiculously amazing NES coffeetables and now Guitar Hero footpedals! They were created by Ben Heckendorn, a guy you may better know as Ben Heck, who has done some amazing mods with game related items. Ben was asked to create some single handed Guitar Hero controllers for the Games for Health conference, and thanks to a kind donation of guitars from Red Octane, Ben was able to create the pedals you see above.

From Ben's blog:

"These replace the strum and whammy bar from a standard guitar, allowing you to use a single hand for the chords. What you do is use your foot and click your toes up or down to strum or navigate menus. To perform a whammy you lift up your heel - the spring loaded plate is shown in the up (full whammy) position in the photo, but normally your heel compresses it (no whammy). The pedal plugs into a modified Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul wireless controller. You can still strum the modified guitar but the whammy is only on the pedal."

These would be ridiculously cool even if they looked totally slipshod, but Ben went to the trouble of making them look great as well, all the way down to flame details on the sides (see Ben's blog for the full slew of pics.) You'd like to see video if it in action too, wouldn't you? Ben thought of everything -- he made one of those too. Rock on, Ben Heck -- you're awesome.

[Thanks Jonathan and Adam!]

These things need to be marketed and sold. I'll be the first in line. That game so-o-o-o f*cking needs foot pedals!

Those look like the 'escort boots' from Red Dwarf that lock around your feet and automatically walk you around prison :P

It's funny how fans make the footpedal add-on before Red Octane manage to make one. Isn't that what the little phone like jack in the Guitar Hero 2 and 3 guitars were going to be used for originally?
