Gamer accuses US Airways of Xbox 360 theft, sues for $1 million photo

What's an Xbox 360 worth to you? Mine isn't worth sh*t. I think it's going to blow up soon, actually. But one Yale University student's Xbox 360 is worth so much more to him than the $300-$400 asking price. Try $1 million.

Jesse Maiman, 21, claims that US Airways stole a video game console from his luggage. He filed a suit Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, saying that he wants a million bucks in compensation.

I think he's full of it: he says that on a December 2008 flight to Cincinnati International Airport that he packed his Xbox 360, and that with hard drive and components the bundle was worth over $1,000. He says that after landing, he picked up his luggage and noticed that the console was missing. He also said that the airline game him the run-arround.

That thing was my DVD player," he said.

The suit seeks $1,700 for the console loss, and up to a million for distress. What a dick.

If he has enough money to drum up a lawyer willing to go through with this suit, he has enough money to buy himself another 360 and all.

What a douche. "Ooh, it's got a special hard drive." Who cares? He's lucky he can now use the money to get a Jasper x-box. But a million? This guy is nuts.

You'd all be crying if this happened to you so I don't understand why you are all hating. I support this guy. If he had a system, some controllers a couple of games stolen that could easily equal a thousand dollars or more. I think 1 mil is a lot to ask for but I still support his quest to get his games back.

I think I read that US Airways will pay up to $3000 for lost/stolen items that were in their care, even though they state they aren't responsible for electronic devices put through baggage claim.

So, what he should have done was claimed that amount and walked away happy. Now, he'll probably (hopefully) get thrown out of court or be awarded $400 for a new 360.

Also, to get to the $1000 he's claiming his console and components were worth, he'd have to have the following:

- 4 controllers ($50 each)
- Wireless adapter ($100)
- Wireless headset ($50)
- Microsoft HDMI cable ($50)
- 360 Elite ($400)

...plus $200 worth of other stuff. Perhaps a texting add-on? They go for $40.

Maybe he bought a second 120GB HDD.

Oh, wait...he claims his HDD was "specialized". I think that means "trying to pull a fast one on an airline that doesn't realize there is no such thing as a specialized HDD."

I thikn a million is a bit much but he does have a fair point, its alot of hours going into those save files. need compensation for the amount of life it took you to do it.
Although by the sounds of it, he hasnt got much of a life..

In his defense, his X-Box probably WAS stolen by some low-wage baggage handler. Then, he was probably dicked around by the airline, who woul of course refuse to believe that any of their awesome employees would ever do anything unethical .... sigh.

1 million is a lot, but the douchery of big corporations can be pretty frustrating.

Total dick wad. When I took my xbox with me when I flew out of state, I actually shipped my xbox to my hotel and told them to hold it for me there that way there was no possible way of my xbox being stolen.

That Yale student, is a dumbass and I'm a community college student. I think you all get what I'm saying here.

We are living in a litigious society, can't expect less than that.

@DaedHead8 - Getting his game back is one thing, suing unreasonably is foul.

if he wins he can get his xbox back and have just enough money left over to pay for shipping and repairs the xbox will end up costing him. I say smart move on his part to get someone else to foot the xbox repair costs.

Joking aside I always put stuff like that as carryon. You can stuff an xbox and hd in laptop bag with a laptop in the bag too. Have you see how your luggage gets treated after you check it? Its almost as bad as how ups treats packages ( I used to unload trucks for them as a kid and goddamn we threw shit everywhere to keep our speed up)

Always bring electronics you care about as carryon

He's asking for too much, but theft of personal property is a problem with the airlines, especially now that you're forbidden from locking your luggage thanks to the post-9/11 "you're not a customer, you're a potential terrorist" attitude. It doesn't surprise me at all to find out that his 360 got swiped.

That said, I wouldn't mind him winning if only to give the airlines a kick in the ass to tighten up the security of customers' belongings.

Yale? As in Yale Law?

I bet you money he's a law student, and he's just trying to impress people by trumping up a case.

Sometimes you need this kinda bullshit to scare companies into giving what you deserve though. Lots of times they'll just try to give you the run around and hope you go away after being frustrated. I'd trump up a suit too if it bullied them into giving me due compensation. I'd drop it right after that.

That's really why you don't check anything except clothes, shoes, and books you're not planning to read on the plane. Luggage handlers aren't paid well enough to be trusted.

He probably suing for a mil in hopes of getting a lower, but still hefty settlement.

And he's a douchbag alright, but baggage handlers who rifle through people's personal belongings are even worse.
