Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Remember Atlus' hint picture from last week, possibly pointing to a new game release for the US? We had our guesses, and felt pretty strongly about one of them. Now Gamefly has given us another hint.

Well, it's not so much a hint as it is coming right out and saying that Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon is coming out on May 14th. Sure, Gamefly isn't a real confirmation, but they're rarely wrong with these kinds of things.

And remember that picture of Raiho, the Jack Frost mascot dressed in Raidou’s clothes? Siliconera found some video of the little cosplaying mascot making an appearance within the game. Check that out above.

SMT fans, join me in rejoicing. The rest of the gaming world will be left scratching their heads, but you and I know that good times are coming in a matter of months.

This is awesome news. I loved the setting for the previous PS2 iteration of Devil Summoner. I am curious what kind of changes and updates this will have on the previous game. There is a pretty good amount of room for improvement from the previous one even though I enjoyed it so much.

This is where I mope. I just didn't really like the last Devil Summoner game. I realize another Persona game won't be coming around for awhile, and that's cool...but I'd kinda like to see something akin to Nocturne make an appearance. This will probably be the first SMT game in awhile that I won't be buying. Which kinda makes me sad.

I'm so excited that I don't get to play this game because my PS2 is incredibly broken and I decided to buy the 40gig PS3.

:/

Vs. King Abbadon is Devil Summoner 4, though. It would be really weird if Atlus re-numbered it, since they're against that kind of thing.

@Dreamsower: You can summon two demons at once, there's some kind of special combo system, there's no/less battles around the Narumi Detective Agency so you can save and get supplies without running into 290395890483 zombies cumulatively worth 1 XP, demon conversation is in instead of mashing buttons to capture, the MAG system is more ingrained into the gameplay and combat, and demons can have more than 2 active abilities so you have more room to play with fusions and making demons more flexible in their roles.

Overall, it's looking to be much, much better than Vs. the Soulless Army(Which wasn't shabby, but it wasn't great either)

Wow, I actually just picked a used copy of the first one a couple of weeks ago (Something like 6 bucks, I think). I haven't really had much time to play it, but I've played enough to be excited about any sort of sequel finding its way over here.

Man, Atlus just keeps bringing the win this year, don't they?

I didn't get to play the first one, should I try and track down a copy of it, or just wait for this one?

Also, was Naoto's look in persona 4(or at least the hat) suppose to be a reference to the character in Devil Summoner? They look simmilar.

@Paladi: Vs. King Abaddon is a direct sequal to Vs. the Soulless Army, so you should probably check it out. The game's only like $9 now since it wasn't very popular, so it won't set you back very much to try it.

As far as I can tell, the similar costumes is a coincedence, although I won't rule out a slight intentional similarity. Raidou's outfit is just a standard school uniform from that era, Naoto's suit is supposed to invoke the idea of a young male detective. The two looks just happen to be fairly similar.

I wouldn't mind adding this to the growing collection of RPGs on my shelf...
