GameFly acquires Shacknews... wait, what?
We're not normally for running news about another game site's goings-ons, but this one is interesting. There's one less independent game site out there now that Shacknews has been snapped up by online games rental outfit GameFly. GameFly intends to keep the same staff and not swat down the site direction as it stands now, which is good news. They now command all the related Shacknews sites, including FileShack. "GameFly has demonstrated a true understanding of and commitment to Shacknews' gaming culture," said Shacknews founder Steve Gibson. "We are confident they will protect the legacy and community we've established, while at the same time providing much needed resources to expand into new and exciting areas." "We purchased Shacknews because it's a great site," said GameFly co-founder Sean Spector. "We believe we can help expand its reach--we're not looking to twist and turn the site into something else." Both Gamefly and Shacknews are pretty cool on their own, but this is a very interesting combination, don't you think? They might have something up their sleeves with with the whole FileShack thing, too. Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.
