Game & Watch coming to DSiWare ... haha ... hahaha photo

Brilliant. Absolutely bloody brilliant. As if the Nintendo DSi needed yet another downloadable clock, it's been made apparent that the Game & Watch series is here to save the day! Only confirmed for Japan at this point, nine of the ancient Gunpei Yokoi-created minigames are scheduled to launch.

The titles include the very first G&W game, Ball, as well as other LCD-based delights like Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario's Cement Factory. Let me just reiterate that these games also double as clocks, meaning that it'll be the fifth time-telling tool to be announced for the system.

We've had the official DSiWare Clock, an Animal Crossing clock, a Mario clock and a clock included as part of an upcoming Tingle download pack. Bear in mind that the DSi already has an internal clock as well. At the very least, Game & Watch means we'll be getting something a little more interactive, but God damn.

This is hilarious. The fact that possibly the most interesting thing to come out of DSiWare is a handful of LCD games from the 1980's is absolutely fantastic. Comedy, thy name is DSiWare.

Big brass balls....
Nintendo has them.

Also, Clocks.

Atleast the Art Style games are fun, all four of them that have been released in US/Canada so far. Also, Mighty Flip Champs and Mario Vs. DK

Zelda? Why is this always absent in any Game & Watch series to be released?

I'd like to know why Nintendo hasn't made a Game & Watch Gallery 5, considering the DS/DSi's 2 screens is MODELED after the G&W games that had 2 screens. It's just asking for it.

Ya know, considering G&W were originally a series of games......does this count as a Virtual Console for the DSi? I mean, they're putting their old games online for us to buy & download, like w/ the Wii's VC...

Welp, the Game&Watch is about to be 30 years old. I don't find it pathetic, but I would rather prefer Nintendo released some actual LCD games for the nostalgia sake.

Hope this is the gate for the so-rumored and hoped GB/C/A Virtual Handheld

The state of DSiware doesnt seem *that* horrible

I mean I get the impression that Nintendo's currently experimenting with seeing what people want. Admittedly some of it is kind of cynical but Game and Watch games is a bit more reasonable for 200 - at least the games are designed for short play and high score runs! I prefer this over the chopped up release of Electroplankton and the Warioware minigames at least

(mind these could be chopped up releases of that Game and Watch game being given away on the Japanese and US Club Nintendo site a while back but considering those were limited editions it makes sense)

Also this seems more a possible set up for a virtual console - I mean these games count as retro releases and its chronological. So this could be like one big lead up

@Nicojay2

It's official. "Also Clocks" is now the official new slogan for the DSi.

Officially.

Beh. WiiWare took a while to get started too, though I'll admit that DSiWare is more laughable out of the gate, only because the applications are (by their size and platform) really chintzy by nature. It's like paying extra for Microsoft Clock or Minesweeper. Are there ANY titles worth mentioning NOT published by Nintendo? And are there even more than 5 at this point?

However. What really upsets me about this news is it confirms that I will be nickel and dimed for proper dual-screen emulation of the Game & Watch series (which some of us old fogies are actually interested in, Jim). The Club Nintendo collection is OK and all, but Game & Watch Gallery 4 had so many freaking titles crammed into one cart. I always hoped Nintendo would just charge me $19.99 for a similar set up with the DS. No such luck, I guess.

P.S. "Ball" sucks. As a historical curiosity it has merit, but you're all better off watching videos of it on YouTube.

Yeah, I really wish they would just make a full Game and Watch collection. I have Game and Watch 1 and 2 for GBC, and they are some of my favorite games.... they really need to release them. fuck.

@Sustenance wiiware still kinda sucks- I am not a big fan of it, the cannel is organized horribly and the lack of storage makes it difficult to actually make a decently complex or worthwhile game-
so far as the dsi we will have to wait and see, since games are stored on an SD and games are typically smaller on the ds it has a better chance of succeeding-
I got the Japanese releases of the game and watch games though and they are enjoyable

9 games for $18 is not terrible, but I REEEEEEEALLLLLLLY wish Nintendo would allow bundles to be downloaded for less (as in buy X, save $Y).
