Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Tales RPG series photo

In the last debate I dropped the bombshell on everyone that we're about to start another multiple month RPG debate tournament, but not yet! After receiving about five different nominees from over 200 of you (OMG!) my head is still spinning, leaving some of the final candidates up in the air.

This week is about narrowing down your favorite game in the large Tales RPG series, which is even larger if you play the Japanese releases. You guys demanded one of these games make the cut, and you've got it! It's up to you to choose which one moves on.

What game moves on to the tournament brackets and why? What sets it apart from every other series? Sell me on the idea! Get me stoked to see it compete in the tournament! Give it some serious thought, share your thought process with all of us, and then check back next week to see how your game did.

Iunno, never played a Tales game. I tried the Vesperia demo and borrowed it from a friend, but I didn't like the clusterfuck that I felt was the battle system.

Might try Graces whenever it comes out, though. Or one of the GBA tales.

Tales of Symphonia was my favorite one.
The characthers and plot were great.

I can honestly say that Vesperia is the best one. It has good voice acting, excellent graphics, it's story (while unoriginal) isn't a complete rip-off, and the battle system is a lot of fun if you know what you're doing.

Symphonia was pretty much FFX with humour. Admittedly, the characters were much more likable than their Square counterparts, but it was pretty obvious. Then again, one can clearly draw similarities between FFX and The Canterbury Tales.

But, yeah, Vesperia if for nothing else than Rita Mordio.

Symphonia. Normally I don't vote if I've only played one of the games, but Symphonia is one of the only JRPGs that I like. It was fast paced, more skill based than most RPGs, over 80 hours, and had some characters that were actually likable. And I don't remember all that much grind either.

Were it not for the atrocious load times, Abyss would win for me hands down.

But if pressed, I would say Vesperia barely beats out Abyss and Symphonia. Damn was it a pretty game. Yuri and Raven were pretty great too.

Tales of the Abyss. I liked Symphonia, Vesperia was going to be my favorite til about 3/4 left in the game the story became Vesperia basically. So Abyss I think is my favorite, though I haven't beaten it yet.

Tales of symphonia, It brought me into the series and gave a system with no definite rpgs a good game. It enticed you into a story with characters you grew with and almost became attached on an emotional level. It's plot twists were superb and the battles like none at the time. It had everything from Overly cautious dwarf fathers to cross dressing baddies. I've played threw tales of symphonia more times than Jim makes ridiculous accusations towards games. I can talk to talk to my friends about this game cuz we sat next to eachother threw it with controllers in hand. Nuff said

I choose Tales of Destiny 2 (the Japanese game that didn't make it to America, not Eternia. The battle system was one of the best out of the entire series, and I like how it wasn't completely broken like Vesperia. Plus Kyle kicks ass! It also has the best Hi-Ougis (Mystic Artes) in the series. Tales of Destiny 2 Hi-Ougi Exhibition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJSGgVblmqs&feature=related

Vesperia.

While I loved Symphonia.... the story was boring as batshit. Only the characters kept me from giving the game up. Vesperia, on the other hand, captivated me until the final moment.

Plus, I'm still trying to get all the achievements in Vesperia.... only 120 hours into it... :)

Tales of Destiny 2(as I played it on the PS1)/Eternia is my favorite, even though I know Symphonia is better. Vesperia was good. Legendia was awful, and I never finished Abyss, even though I liked it. Tales of Destiny was really good, and Phantasia was alright

1. Destiny 2/Eternia
2. Symphonia
3. Destiny
4. Vesperia
5. Phantasia
6. Symphonia 2
7. Abyss
8. Legendia

The tales of world games are garbage.

Symphonia is honestly pretty awful.

Rebirth is by far the best and there is definitely no discussion neededon that. Vesperia, Abyss, hell even Legendia is better than Symphonia. Graces, Hearts, Innocence,Phantasia, Destiny and Eternia are too. Destiny 2 and Tempest are the only super terrible ones.

Seriously though, Rebirth. If you think anything else, you probably haven't played it and I'll forgive you but you should know that it's better than whatever you've played in every way anyway.

Out of what's in the US, Vesperia and Destiny are the best.

Symphonia of course! Vesperia, Eternia, Legendia, they all wish they could match Symphonia. It had a wide cast of likable characters, a fast-paced battle system, and it had a long engaging story that somehow didn't drag on.

Also, female Shepard was in Symphonia as a busty sexy female ninja.

Tales of Vesperia is easily the best, of three Tales games that I've played. The battle system is a bit overly-complicated, but the characters are universally appealing, and the story actually makes sense. It also takes a pretty serious look at themes like sacrifice and vigilantism, which was a pleasant surprise.

Tales of Fantasia. I can never forget the voiced opening theme coming from Super Famicom. I was literally shocked. After that, tales series became more and more fast-food like, which I gradually lost the interest.

I'm going through Phantasia PS1 right now. It got bearable now that I've got Manual mode. Otherwise, I enjoyed Abyss a lot with Symphonia and Vesperia closely following.

Shame Namco hates money in the U.S. to bother bringing over some of the other titles. Oh well...

Haven't played Symphonia. I kept waiting for a domestic PS2 release that never came. I still feel slighted by Namco for that one.. The friggin' translation was already done. I'll cast my vote for Phantasia. I also played Tales of Destiny, which was all right, but I preferred ToP. Tales of Legendia was pretty bad, I didn't finish it.

PS: Klarth can suck my balls. Chester for life.
