2 is so good it's ridiculous. I remember buying it on a whim (I hadn't played the first one), and freaking out over not only how many characters there were, but how different they all were!

Suikoden II is one of my most favouritest games ever.
Back when I bought it, it was incredibly rare of me (due to me being young, poor and misguided) to be interested in any games other than those that were being hyped up at that particular point in time. Suikoden II changed that - I rented it, asked my local games store to order in a copy especially for me and was literally obsessed with it over a Christmas period. Gaming has many fond memories for me, but playing SII has produced some of my best.
I could harp on about it for ages, but I won't. II > I > V > III > IV.

Suikoden 3 takes this easily as out of the four I played it was the only one I liked. (disclaimer: I never bothered with 2 because I tried all of the other ones first and since I only liked 3, and that was the one that departed the most from the formula, I felt spending $100 for it on ebay would be a bad call.)
1, please. 2 is a bit overrated from it being way too rare. I loved 3 until the massive stupid plot twist in chapter 4. 4 was by far the worst from the too frequent random battles, and I haven't played 5.
