"Mei Ling, Samus took her clothes off."
"You know, maybe if I took off all this heavy gear, I could catch her."
The Mario Party series is not a fair game. It's a drawn out half hour affair which simply decides the winner at random at the end. After the stars get shuffled round and the mini-games are branded as no longer deciding the outcome, you might as well have rolled dice 20 minutes ago and been done with it.
There's no strong sense of victory or defeat, since you've all participated in a massive 20-minute-long dice roll.
At least with the Smash Bros series, though there can be some luck with item pickup, it's still down to the skills of the individuals which shine through.
Smash Bros. takes the cake with ease.
Sure, Mario Party is gfun with friends and even those that don't usually play games can enjoy it, but it's slow, boring and repetitive when compared to Smash Bros.
Not only that, but I'm also a fan of fighters.
Something I don't like about Smash Bros.? Pikachu.
Bonus: Tourney players.
Bonus: Tripping. Why?!
I never liked Mario Party. Whenever my friend suggests playing it, I suggest something more fun to play.
Bonus: Online multiplayer is worthless in SSBB, and tripping can be annoying at times. Other than that, its a great improvement over SSBM, especially balance wise.
My friends and I get together every couple weeks to play Mario Party and have been for a couple years. We actually keep track of who wins and set up a bracket for the next time, with " championship belts" for the winners(We're up to Game #89). It's a good excuse to get together, socialize, and get hammered after we finish.
The reason it ain't my vote is the fact we only play Mario Party 6 because it is technically the most perfect version of the game. Ever since then, the random bonus stars, ridiculous duel system, and lack of wifi with the newest version have been putting us off from the series.
Shit, skipping a whole days worth of college classes with friends playing Melee...that was truly priceless...
There's nothing to debate here, no points to weigh against one another, they're just two completely separate games. Clearly Smash Brothers has more fans so it will win. Why not Super Monkey Ball vs. Mario Party or something like that? Then there are things to debate, rather than just a game vote to death".
Unlike Mario Party, it can be played by casual and competitive players alike. You can turn off items and choose not to play on a cheap SSB stage. Or if NO ITEMS, FOX ONLY, FINAL DESTINATION isn't your thing, you've got the option to go crazy with explosives, hammers and Falcon Punches. You can't really get rid of all the luck elements involved in Mario Party. Also, about half the time you spend playing Mario Party involves sitting and waiting for everybody else to finish their turn. And the minigame coming up may or may not be worth the wait.
One thing I don't like about the Smash Bros series is the character balance. Some matchups are near insurmountable, as if Sakurai wasn't even trying to make that character playable. It goes beyond rock-paper-scissors when your character only has one approach.
Melee is still my favorite game of all time. I just love that it can be a party game and a competative fighter at the same time.
What I donīt like: That Brawl went completely in the party game direction.
With Mario Party 3, we set it to 20 turns. By the time we hit the 10th turn, I was done.
Smash Bros, on the other hand, was a blast! I got my ass kicked, but I had fun regardless.
Smash Bros gets my vote.
BONUS: Brawl isn't Melee with more characters and stages.
Smash Bros. is pretty much the best mascot fighter ever. Not the best fighting game exactly, but it's still something.
Smash Bros. for me.
Bonus: Tripping. Easily.
BQ: The online is bad but Brawl's still a great game!
a couple of things I didn't like about brawl...RANDOM TRIPPING! and no stats for online killed online for me.
"tourneyfag"), but it's still fun.
Have to follow that up a bit with saying I wasn't too pleased with SSBB, but I'm much happier now that I've taken the time to get Brawl+ up and running. Speeds the game up, removes tripping, balances a lot of things. It's a lot more like how brawl should have been released.
SSB was always fun for me. LAggy online, which I never played, and a passable level editor aside, I just always loved the game.
Only thing I didn't like about Brawl was that it was too easy to unlock everything. I missed the old, mysterious ways of earning people besides just finding them in story mode.
Smash Bros.
Bonus Question: No fucking Mega Man in Brawl. Also, tripping, horrible online, friend codes, and anything else Nintendo did to strip some fun out of it.
Smash Bros is fun while drinking, but Mario Party is actually an epic drinking game. I know that it will get SMASHED in this vote because Smash Bros has a competitive arena and is geared towards the more hardcore gamer. However, the only thing I enjoy more than beating the shit outta my friends in a video game, is drinking them under the table WHILE beating the shit outta them in a video game.
My vote goes for Smash Bros.
Simply put, Mario Party is a fun series indeed (although the first one had its bugs), my personal favorite being the second in the series. But I think that after the fourth installment of the series, it bacame rather silly. Same system, less-inventive mini-games, a totally unnecessary story mode... Sure, I agree you can play it with a wider variety of people (casual and non-gamers), but it`s like play one 20 turn game, everybody has fun, but gets fed up.
Smash Bros is different Of course, it`s a fighting game duh but a more accessible one. One can call a bunch of pople to play it (though I guess not as many as Mario Party) and have a decent amount of chaotic action with four players and then again, after a while, everybody gets tired. But Smash is a series you can actually master and play with more hardcore gamers. It`not a complex fighting game but it`s mechanics are very dynamic. (gosh until today you can find Melee tournaments and EVEN Bros tournaments)
In a nutshell, Smash Bros. gets my vote for always being full of energy and personality in every installment of the series as well as proportioning a wider range of fun with both casual and hardcore gamers while Mario Party lost its tracks after the third game, it's fun, yes, but you'll usually play it much less than Smash Bros.
Bonus Question: I guess the complaint every fighting gamer has: unbalanced fighters (though my favorite characters are always low-tiers)
