Party AI is... not very helpful. But P3P seems to have cured that
In hindsight, the only thing I don't like, or wish was a little better is the character depth. It was great, but Persona 4's characters had way more dimensions. Well, I haven't played Persona 3 on the PSP yet and I hear there's a lot more dialog, so maybe my complaint has already been adjusted.
I didn't like the grinding.
The thing I didn't like about the game? The reveal of who the murderer was. Felt rather underwhelming and forced.
From a pure story standpoint P2 was the best, (specifically Innocent Sin), It's just too bad it wasn't all that much fun to play. Here's P5 can mix the great story of P2 with great gameplay like P4.
The one thing I didn't like about Persona was the world map. I thought it was so lame that my party was represented by that green arrow thing.
A huge drawback to the game is how long the average battle could be, although I liked the frequency of them and option for negotiating...
i'd say i liked p3 better but only thanks to FES (and now portable) having more options thans persona 4 did
P1 never really clicked with me. I've never really liked the the whole 1st-person dungeon crawler thing, and the story read like...well like something the SNES-PSX era.
It didn't try to be dark for the sake of being dark, it wasn't in the cliched big city and the characters seemed very realistic in terms of behavior and the real life struggles they faced. The story was about facing the the truth about themselves, truths they knew, but just couldn't embrace.
Setting it in a rural town was also a nice touch. I get so tired of seeing modern games set in the big city in contrast to the kinds of places most people actually live. Nothing against Tokyo or Los Angeles, but the city gets a bit played out after a while.
The one thing I didn't like about Persona 4? December 3rd. Too much trial and error to get to the true ending and some of answers to get there were far to arbitrary. Doesn't help that the whole day is a cutzcene you're forced to repeat if you want to move toward the true ending. Turns out even after that you're still not quite there.
Bonus: I wish the controls were more like persona 4
I didn't like the actually storyline events as much as Persona 3, but I may be unfair since I haven't finished either.
Bonus: The Answer. It was so stupid I nearly had a heart attack.
Also, I think P4 is the more western-friendly than P3, thus I enjoyed it a lot more.
Didn't like - Not much life with the main Protagonist.
My vote has to go to 4. More interesting plot and characters. Refined gameplay. Catchier soundtrack. I'm not passionate about this choice, but there it is.
I've played every single Persona release to date (that includes original releases, remakes, and add-ons) and I still prefer P4. P2 had a great story (for the most part), but the rest of the game wasn't really that special. And dear god, negotiation grinding for Tarot Cards to summon new Persona's was up there as one of my least favorite things in any MegaTen game.
Don't just assume that everyone would choose P2 even if they had played it.
The story, the combat system is great and for some reason it never gets old, the social links, the real final boss
What I didn't like was: the answer story and f*cking Fuuka
Though if this was SMT general, Nocturne would definitely have my vote.
One thing I didn't like about it? The ending is damn near impossible to find out without a guide. I guess that's all.
The Shin Megami Tensei franchise is pretty massive. There's just too many games to make a valid poll of every game in the franchise.
