Game SERIES Debate to the Death!Mario Golf VS Tiger Woods photo

Time to tee off and debate until you're tee'd off! From turf to rough we move on from last week's debate to another sports series Dtoid discussion.

Debate dare: read the rest of this in your best Madden voice. "Well, yuh, you see, it's like this. EA had first possession with a strong Samit offense, but then Midway came down the middle with a hard blitz. Hyuhehehe, this, this, this is where things get interesting. EA responds with a zig here and a zag around the back, but that didn't work. So then they decide to call out Samit and send in Detry with 4 votes and inches to go. Wait -- what? I lost?!" Okay, enough of that. Interestingly, last week's football debate score turned out much like a football score:

  • Blitz series (21 votes) -- Winner!
  • Madden series (6 votes) -- Fumble!

This week brings probably the last sports debate for a while. Don't worry, I do not plan on going through each Mario sports spinoff series one by one, it ends here. However, I do have a few more series debates planned, and I'm up for adding a few more if you leave suggestions in the comments.

Which series do you like better as a whole, and why? What aspects or individual games of the series made up your mind? Give it some serious thought, get your golf friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner who will receive quiet golf claps as a reward.

Bonus Question: What is one thing you do not enjoy about the series you voted for?

I've never played either so my vote goes to Tiger Woods because that cover makes me think he's singing Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who.

Seeing this was a bit misleading.

Does anyone else thing the Tiger Woods cover looks very unrealistic and goofy? Kind of like a reallly good carnival portrait 10 minute painting, but because it isn't trying to look goofy, it makes it look even more goofy?! Maybe it's just me . . .

Anyways. I'm a big fan of the Mario Golf series, and they had a good run. That being said, I can see the interest in a realistic Golf sim game. But I can't answer until somewhere answers a question I have . . .

Do the Tiger Woods games have NEW gold courses in each year's new installment? Or just updates of old ones?

If the answer is yes, it makes it actually worth an annual release and dissimiliar to Madden's whoring. It the answer is no, then Tiger Whores does not get my vote.

Awaiting a reply . . .

Never played either. I'm waiting to get Tiger Woods though, I played 'Everbodys Golf' and found it lame, I prefer a more realistic looking and feeling sports experience. I'm sure I'd prefer Mario Golf to Everybodys though. Just arcade sports games apart from hockey aren't really my thing.

I prefer the career mode of Tiger, and the crazy courses of Mario Golf.
I vote for the crossover game they'll never make.

Oh man, this one is tough... Mario Golf is a better game in my opinion, but the controls in Tiger Woods for the Wii are amazing. I'm going to still have to go with Mario on this one, I think.

Not played either, but is Mario Golf is as fun as the other Mario Sports games, I'd vote that.

Sports don't become fun until you throw realism out the window.

Tiger Woods wins, hands-down. The Wii version this year, with MotionPlus, is amazingly realistic and responsive.

@Fronz: Yeah, it has new courses every year. And other stuff, too!

I love Mario Golf, my non-gamer girlfriend begs me to play it with her all the time. My vote has to go to Mario Golf, but it's close. Tiger Woods offers a more enjoyable single player experience...but I still like the whimsy-ness of Mario Golf. Hey Nintendo, I'm waiting for a Wii update!

I watched my roomate play one of the old Tiger Woods once, and he was able to change the spin on the ball AFTER he had already hit it in the air. This, for me, was total nonsense so I stuck with Mario Golf (and the far superior Hot Shots Golf) instead.

So Mario all the way.

However, if they ever made a Kirby's Dream Course update called Tiger Whispy Woods, I would be all over that.

I gotta go with Tiger Woods here, especially with Tiger Woods 10 on the Wii. So much fun!

Mario Golf. I love how this game made funny a boring sport.

The only thing i hated about it's that my friend never like, they founded it so boring that everytime i've ended playing alone.

I've never played either enough to give a fair and honest critique, but since my vote's going to be counted anyway, and since X-Play's review of Tiger '06
( http://g4tv.com/games/w/30892/Tiger-Woods-PGA-Tour-06/review/ ) is one of the funniest things I've ever seen them do I'm giving it to Tiger Woods.

Mario golf. Fun over realism. I'm not going to say I didn't have a lot of fun with past Tiger Woods games, but Mario Golf was too fun to play with friends.

Mario Golf.

I couldn't really pick one based on gameplay since, for me, they both play pretty much the same. I guess when it cones down to it I have fond memories of staying up until 4 AM with my cousins all shambled in a roadside hotel with one person bringing the TV, the other bringing in the GameCube, controllers, and so on and just playing the shit out of Mario Golf.

Mario Golf for me.

Mario Golf for me.

I played the shit out of that game, and it really just embodies fun in a completely wacky Mario way.

Eh... I don't know, Mario Golf hell a lot of funnier but then the games' idea of replaying your turns are way there and I'm not interested to watch the same bloody ball to fly in a bunker 256 times(this really happened and it took about an hour or so).

My vote goes to the Tiger because of that.

old tiger on the ps2 was some of the best multi-player golf action, so I vote tiger for that reason alone

Mario Golf. Just brings more life to a rather slow paced sport.

Wow... it amazes me how few people seem to have played the recent Tiger Woods games. Although Mario Golf would have been a clear winner up until Tiger Woods 09, the balance has clearly shifted in the past two years. As far as I'm concerned, golf is the reason why motion controls exist!

If this was Mario Golf Vs Tiger 09 Mario Golf would win it hands down for me. But EA did it right with the Motion Plus controller combined with T10. Bite me if it don't feel like golf, you have to make a good swing to get a respectable shot, even worse, it is teaching me things I am doing wrong with the real golf clubs. T10 is a great golf simulation, and I am sure it will get better as the other consoles get motion interfaces.

All that said, I would never play it with a group like you can with Mario Golf. That is just plain silly fun.
