The debate destruction trail continues hot off the heels of Guitar Hero's corpse from last week. Another week, another homicide. This one wasn't as horrible to witness, but it still made you want to watch because you just knew it was going end bad. So why compare these kinds of series if it's expected to have a slaughterhouse score of an outcome? Because both sides are part of million dollar industries, and should have no excuses for going head to head against any of their genre's competition. Hate the games, not the game debates. Here's the autopsy from last week:
- Mario Kart series (93 votes) -- Winner!
- Gran Turismo series (28 votes) -- Banana peel!
This week brings a head-to-head debate for a full contact feud in the game industry. In this classic case of fun versus realism, we're up against the exact opposite odds of last week. Financially speaking, this time the realistic game is the profitable protagonist of its genre, with Blitz enduring the pariah plague despite knowing it will never go to the profit playoffs. All of this will be taken into consideration, but in game debates all bets are off and it's up to you to decide the winner.
Which series do you like better as a whole, and why? What aspects or individual games of the series made up your mind? Give it some serious thought, get your football gaming friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Bonus Question: What is one thing you do not enjoy about the series you voted for?

Blitz started as an awesome series that eventually lost it's identity and became a joke, that was trying to hard to be serious.

BUT
If Madden was much more like Rock Band, where it only came out with one game every few years (that features SIGNIFICANT improved graphics/features) and in the meantime just offer yearly cheap ass downloadable updates -- not even free, just cheap -- then I would be forced to give Madden my vote. To tackle (har har) the entire NFL, player by player, face by face, stat by stat is an enormous endeavor. But they ruin it by whoring out their series, and I cannot and will not tolerate that.
People with mild Madden interest should not be forced to buy one game and play it over and over and over for five years when they are willing to pay a few bucks to get the updated rosters each year. We have the fucking Internet people. Use it. So sick of DLC not being used, or being used poorly.
Vote: Blitz.
I will say this Madden (for the most part) always has slick presentations but that won't get my 60 bucks.
Still need to pick up Blitz: The League II
Although Blitz: The League II is very, very, very glitchy. It's very hard to play a stable online game (or find anyone who still plays it for that matter).
Each Madden update is nothing more than 15 year old ideas added every 3 years, and roster changes.
Screw Madden and all of the problems it has created in the entirety of the sports game genre.
I also think that people don't give the Madden dev team -- and really, any team that does annual sports games -- nearly enough credit. To do what they do with a development cycle that's barely ten months long is astonishing.
Bonus: With Madden, you still see issues that you'd think would have been fixed years ago -- for example, receivers don't have sideline "intelligence" in terms of keeping their feet in-bounds.
Bonus: SPORTS!!!!1
My brothers and I had so much fun knocking the crap out of each other on our PlayStation copy of Blitz 2000. While I will give EA credit for their Madden series. The presentation and attention to detail is pretty slick, but I have never been much for NFL football so a simulated version of it just doesn't really appeal to me.
Bonus: Some of them can be fairly glitchy and Blitz 2001 suuuuuuuuuuucked hard. Plus, the rampant fumbles could get a little annoying at times.
Also, I predict another beatdown this week.
Blitz!!
Rubberbanding AI
I like Madden, but we know what we are going to get every year and wouldn't age well unless new features were added every year.
Bonus Question: Frequent fumbling. Not cool.
Though seriously... who the hell buys Madden every year?
I think I might have paid full price for Madded 05. When I got my 360 I got Madden 07 for $5. I finally paid full price for a Madden game again this year. They work pretty goddamn hard for my money. :P
Bonus: I don't like Football very much.
Bonus Question: It is still not NFL 2K5!
What a scam EA has running here.
I need the more acrcady edition of sports games to get into them more.
I need the more acrcady edition of sports games to get into them more.
Honestly, Blitz is fun with others, and is an okay series but is in no way on the level of Madden. I would hope that even those who aren't big football fans can see that.
But by all means, continue on with your tired ass "yearly roster update" jokes. Claiming with repetitive jokes and attacks that a game series itself is repetitive and unimaginative is in no way hypocritical, nor is it really, really amusing to others.
Bonus: I dont like how the AI for the opposing teams pass defense is generally amazing and pretty unrealistic. Actually, a lot of the defensive plays are unrealistic, but ehh, it is still a game, so I live with it.
