Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Madden VS Blitz photo

The debate destruction trail continues hot off the heels of Guitar Hero's corpse from last week. Another week, another homicide. This one wasn't as horrible to witness, but it still made you want to watch because you just knew it was going end bad. So why compare these kinds of series if it's expected to have a slaughterhouse score of an outcome? Because both sides are part of million dollar industries, and should have no excuses for going head to head against any of their genre's competition. Hate the games, not the game debates. Here's the autopsy from last week:

  • Mario Kart series (93 votes) -- Winner!
  • Gran Turismo series (28 votes) -- Banana peel!

This week brings a head-to-head debate for a full contact feud in the game industry. In this classic case of fun versus realism, we're up against the exact opposite odds of last week. Financially speaking, this time the realistic game is the profitable protagonist of its genre, with Blitz enduring the pariah plague despite knowing it will never go to the profit playoffs. All of this will be taken into consideration, but in game debates all bets are off and it's up to you to decide the winner.

Which series do you like better as a whole, and why? What aspects or individual games of the series made up your mind? Give it some serious thought, get your football gaming friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: What is one thing you do not enjoy about the series you voted for?

I have to give it to Madden. it has remained true to it's initial purpose and mission statement as a realistic football game, However I sometimes think that It's a little too realistic to the point of not being fun.

Blitz started as an awesome series that eventually lost it's identity and became a joke, that was trying to hard to be serious.

Blitz BY FAR. I might have to give the current Madden a try but I've have and always will love Blitz.

I'm a big fan of what NFL Blitz used to do, and what Blitz: The League has done and become recently. Me personally, it's a no brainer and I gladly vote for Blitz.

BUT

If Madden was much more like Rock Band, where it only came out with one game every few years (that features SIGNIFICANT improved graphics/features) and in the meantime just offer yearly cheap ass downloadable updates -- not even free, just cheap -- then I would be forced to give Madden my vote. To tackle (har har) the entire NFL, player by player, face by face, stat by stat is an enormous endeavor. But they ruin it by whoring out their series, and I cannot and will not tolerate that.

People with mild Madden interest should not be forced to buy one game and play it over and over and over for five years when they are willing to pay a few bucks to get the updated rosters each year. We have the fucking Internet people. Use it. So sick of DLC not being used, or being used poorly.

Vote: Blitz.

^agree with Fronz totally. I just like how goofy and arcade like Blitz is. Plus non football players can really pick up and play and score touchdowns in no time. The come back CPU though can be ridiculous.

I will say this Madden (for the most part) always has slick presentations but that won't get my 60 bucks.

Still need to pick up Blitz: The League II

Oops. Bonus Question: The League games feature less violence and less late hits than i would like to see! come on, EA bought the rights of the NFL away from you, go crazy! you can do whatever you want!

Blitz: The League II is one of the most fun sports games I have ever played, period. It's very fast, and rewards taking as many chances as you can. Of course Blitz 2000 is also a very good game. I vote for Blitz

Although Blitz: The League II is very, very, very glitchy. It's very hard to play a stable online game (or find anyone who still plays it for that matter).

Blitz.

Each Madden update is nothing more than 15 year old ideas added every 3 years, and roster changes.

Screw Madden and all of the problems it has created in the entirety of the sports game genre.

Madden. Duh. I had a great time playing NFL Blitz 2000 with my friends on the PS1, but nothing can compare to EA Tiburon's annual effort to simulate the sport of football in videogame form. Blitz is a game that's only fun with friends; because of the rubber-band AI, playing against the computer isn't satisfying.

I also think that people don't give the Madden dev team -- and really, any team that does annual sports games -- nearly enough credit. To do what they do with a development cycle that's barely ten months long is astonishing.

Bonus: With Madden, you still see issues that you'd think would have been fixed years ago -- for example, receivers don't have sideline "intelligence" in terms of keeping their feet in-bounds.

I vote Blitz too. I remember the first time I played, it was with my cousins at a family reunion thing. I was only 7 or 8 and I just laughed so hysterically at tackling the referees and whatnot. I rented Madden a couple weeks later and it was fun, I guess (not a fan of sports games really), but it just didn't have the same immediate appeal as Blitz did.

Blitz. I would say its mostly about nostalgia of getting drunk in my dorm rocing with my roomate but.......yeah that's exactly why. I had way too much fun with that game and it lasted years. I could still play it and have fun. SO yeah. definitely Blitz. I have to buy a new madden every year to keep it freash. I could probably keep playing Blitz 2000 for the next 20 and it still wouldn't get boring.

Blitz.

My brothers and I had so much fun knocking the crap out of each other on our PlayStation copy of Blitz 2000. While I will give EA credit for their Madden series. The presentation and attention to detail is pretty slick, but I have never been much for NFL football so a simulated version of it just doesn't really appeal to me.

Bonus: Some of them can be fairly glitchy and Blitz 2001 suuuuuuuuuuucked hard. Plus, the rampant fumbles could get a little annoying at times.

Also, I predict another beatdown this week.

Blitz 2000 by a fucking galaxy. Compared to Madden, this can be casually played way more often in the long run. Blitz' simplistic controls and fun cheats and easter eggs keep it fresh and fast paced.

I like Madden, but we know what we are going to get every year and wouldn't age well unless new features were added every year.

I'm going to say Blitz, on the sheer fact that not a single developer has attempted to pick up the Mutant League Football mantle any closer than these guys. That is, until Blood Bowl comes out. I mean, COME ON, do you know how much land mines and turrets would make playing a football game that much more awesome?!?

I vote Madden.

Though seriously... who the hell buys Madden every year?

I think I might have paid full price for Madded 05. When I got my 360 I got Madden 07 for $5. I finally paid full price for a Madden game again this year. They work pretty goddamn hard for my money. :P

Blitz. I loved the all of the wacky cheats when I was a kid, and nothing about the game seemed very serious, giving it a very robust feel, which was its way of differing itself from Madden.
Bonus: I don't like Football very much.

Madden is just not fun and Blitz doesn't have the NFL licensing... so no winner and the consumers are the losers because we cant' get a good football game. I don't give a crap about online play and i'm willing to be the vast majority of people playing football don't either. Football games are one those best played with people in the same room. It avoids all the quitters!

Madden, although I fear that Blitz will win here just because of the "sim-style sports game" hate.

Honestly, Blitz is fun with others, and is an okay series but is in no way on the level of Madden. I would hope that even those who aren't big football fans can see that.

But by all means, continue on with your tired ass "yearly roster update" jokes. Claiming with repetitive jokes and attacks that a game series itself is repetitive and unimaginative is in no way hypocritical, nor is it really, really amusing to others.

Madden is the better football game IMHO, and while Blitz is good, Madden definitely has it beaten, especially this year.

Bonus: I dont like how the AI for the opposing teams pass defense is generally amazing and pretty unrealistic. Actually, a lot of the defensive plays are unrealistic, but ehh, it is still a game, so I live with it.
