Game publisher threatens the blogs: Will sue you if you say bad things photo

Here's a rather pitiful piece of news regarding Left Behind Games. The publisher of Left Behind: Eternal Forces has been sending threatening letters to blogs who dare to say bad things about its work. Eternal Forces is an RTS based on a Christian book while its publisher appears to be quite sanctimonious and self-satisfied. Of course, if Left Behind reads that, it might sue me!

Here's what Gameology has to say:

…If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ve probably seen that we’ve posted some rather critical remarks on the game Left Behind: Eternal Forces… we’re apparently on [CEO] Troy Lyndon’s radar… On Monday, they escalated their response by sending me a nastygram threatening me with legal action unless I remove “false and misleading” comments from this website.

…The goal of this letter is apparently to intimidate me… On free-speech grounds, then, I feel obligated to stand by my comments and not be intimidated by a frivolous threat intended to chill legitimate criticism.

Apparently, if you dare criticise Left Behind's games, you are posting "false and misleading" information. How arrogant do you have to be to send something like that? This isn't the only instance of bully-boy tactics on the part of Left Behind either. Hit the jump for another blog that's come under fire from Troy Lyndon and his pals. Also, Eternal Forces looked terrible anyway.

[Cheers Justin]

Via ThePublicTheologian.com:

I got a letter today from… a Pennsylvania attorney representing Left Behind Games warning me that if I did not remove all of the false and misleading information about their product that I would face legal action.

The Left Behind folks, still reeling from their disastrous launch last year, are gearing up for the release of their expansion pack next month… As an offensive strategy, they are trying to intimidate the Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders in the blogosphere who led the charge against this awful game…

…Christians should not sit silently while  corporate money-grubbers make a buck out of perverting the Christian faith.  Nor should we sit silently when a game is marketed to children promoting religious violence while American soldiers are dying overseas in the middle of a religious and ethnic civil war.

Awful, awful, awful. I remember the movie being released (Kirk Cameron is that you?) when I worked in a movie theatre and it literally was taken off one week later.

What's the game like? I can't imagine how this could even be made into a game:
pray. wait for apocalypse. wait for apocalypse. wait for apocalypse. pray. walk around with an undeserved air of importance and superiority. pray. when is that damn apocalypse coming?

and I'm guessing Jesus wasn't a playable character...

Who buys religious games? You may as walk into the store and say "can I have the most badly written condescending piece of crap you have please". Chances are that you'd get the same game either way. As for people actually buy religious games... idiots.

As a Christian, I must say two things:

1) The rapture is made up to make silly people think God's going to rescue them from horrible things at the end time. Silly people believe silly things.

2) This game sucks.

Also, @ qwerty, most of which you speak of is Catholicism, which is not Christianity, and if you're following Christianity, shouldn't you follow what Jesus talked about? I don't think Jesus said "Enslave peeps, burn witches, and then touch boys. w00t!"

If you read the notice after the jump, you'll see: Most folks who are actually opposed to this game are folks who take their religion seriously, and don't want this crap representing something they hold sacred. The problem I have with religious games (being a "religious" person, whatever that means) is that they try to merge analogy and things people hold as reality, thus blurring the lines and causing confusion. Confusion that is evident in the posts above. FYI, I don't blame anyone for being confused or angry about religion, especially Christianity. We Christians have done a horrible job of actually loving anyone except ourselves. The irony is, recognizing that is one of the things that leads a person to Christ, so...yeah.

well what do you know a group of christians trying to use fear and force to get what they want- game reviewers to suck their tiny cocks and spluge out a good review for a shitty game. religious games are like reality tv they're the worst forms of entertainment. suing someone over a review is ludacris considering a review is basically just an opinion and opinions are protected by our FREEDOM OF SPEECH. but what do you expect from people who follow the teachings of an insane long haired bearded arab magician who took it up the ass like a champ and could chug jizz all day long. fuck left behind games. fuck christians who think they're better than everyone because they believe a lie. and fuck everyone who disagrees with me.lol peace

There's an unnecessary and slightly disturbing level of hostility in some of these comments. Can't say I appreciate it.

Nonetheless, this is really shitty of them. In fact, as a Christian, I can pretty accurately say that their behavior is not actually Christ-like, which is what the term "Christian," you know, generally implies. So, uh, once again we drop the ball big-time in the public eye. *slow clap*

Ok, first things first. I, Screenname Furnimus, am a Christian.

I don't care to cram my belief down anyones throat. It's not my choice. But, as pointed out, this game does indeed suck.

@qwerty, Jesus never sinned but if He did it would be because of calling you an asshole. Don't be so hostile about it. If you served buddha and I called him a sweaty gelatinus fat slob pig-dog half-mentally ill slime crawler would you be happy? That's basically what you are doing with Christianity. Taking that sarcastic know-it-all tone and not even having your facts straight! Catholocism is different, as DryvBy so kindly pointed out.

@phatdeuce, don't learn how to spell from rappers. It is not ludacris, that is how Chris Bridges spells it for his stage-name. It is spelt ludicrous. Learn punctuation, spelling, gram---just take English all over again, it didn't sink in the first time 'round. And Christians don't "think that they are better than everyone else because they believe a lie," you are just an idiot.

End of discussion. Call me stubborn, but if you think I am stubborn then what are the people that dismiss everything about Jesus/God/Bible/Christianity? Uber-stubborn I suppose.

Thanks. I expect flaming, but I wish you could stop being so childish. All of you flamer haters. Crucify me because I don't believe what you do. Or because of who I say I am. Ring any bells??

Oh, and one more thing (I hate Steve Jobs),

Most people have such a bad outlook on Christains and everyone will say oh you think you are better, but find all of my posts. You won't find me countering every religious statement. I stay out of it usually.

Oh, and one more thing (H8!),

These people trying to take legal actions are babies. Big babies.

"And Catholics are christians, its just a different denomination."

No, they are not. Honestly. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses also call themselves Christian, which is just not true. The term Christian is so loosely thrown around as it is.

Myself, I consider myself a Christian, and non-religious. I understand the criticism toward Christianity, especially when groups like Left Behind Games and Jack Thompson are making us all look bad. I would compare them to extremist Muslims who make all Muslims look bad. It's such a small percentage that has the largest attention.

Actually, Catholics are Christians. The term "Christian" refers to someone who believes in and attempts to follow the teachings of Christ. They may be vastly different from, say, evangelicals, but they are still, technically, Christian. Their theology is close enough to qualify.

I love the little precursor "I am a Christian" before they state that Catholics are not Christians. Haha, so by the very fact that you are a Christian you can state what is and what isn't a Christian? Is this by the fact that your denomination has "Christ" in it? Does it make it more Christ-ish? Arguing religion is pointless anyhow. You guys can believe what ever you want. Like Sharpless said, you guys both believe Jesus was Christ and from there you part your merry ways. I think it's ridiculous that this publisher think it can sue based on a negative review of their game.

/End rant
