Game peripherals everywhere: 30% more than last year photo

It used to be easy to hide the evidence that you are a gamer. You could just stash the controllers and throw your PS2 into the bedroom. That's not the case anymore.

Gaming peripherals have now invaded our living rooms and bedrooms. Space-hogging drum controllers, guitars, Wii Remotes, dance pads, chargers, and other controllers are all the rage these days, and the most recent NPD data says that 2008 is on track to set a new record.

Sales of games that include big hunks of plastic devices is up 30 percent. You can blame most of the loss of your personal space to Rock Band and Guitar Hero. With sequels for both of these titles coming up, along with Rock Revolution or whatever other silly new music game you pick up, you might have to start parking in the street, using your garage to hold your gaming gear.  Add this to whatever other crazy devices Nintendo wants you to attach to your Wii, and you might start to worry about where you're going to sleep.

In my own home, I have a big basket in my living room where I can throw all of my gaming crap into. It looks atrocious. What do you do to manage your gaming peripherals? Are you one of those that leaves your Rock Band drums set up at all times?

Don't worry about Rock Revolution, i don't think it will sell well after seeing the fugly drum kit.

I keep my Rock Band drums along the wall next to my TV, close enough that setup takes less than a minute.

just leave the drums out at all times unless i need the space. all guitars/dancepads/extra crap is in a corner between a couch and the wall... sort of placed underneath a small table. it is getting pretty ugly.... what about a collapsible drumkit at some point?

Maybe it's because my place is not big enough to invite people round often, but I don't have any large peripherals. I don't play GH or Rock Band, I don't own a Wii or any Buzz games and why would I need Singstar when I have my shower?

Or maybe its just because I don't have any friends.

My drums are always out, but if they're not in use for a while, I at least make them shorter so they're less prominent.

I keep my nunchucks and classic controllers in a drawer of my desk and all the Wii Remotes and Wavebirds go in the TV stand along with the Wii and PS3. Now my roommate's rock band is going to be another can of worms once he sets it up...

I leave my drums set up at all times, slightly off to the side, taking up way more room than I really have to spare. My Rock Band guitar is sitting propped up on the drum set, along-side my Guitar Hero guitar. My Beatmania controller is next to all that, on top of Jimmy Hoffa.

Oh yeah, and I keep the Rock Band microphone, along with my Classic Controller and some other random shit, in a drawer in my desk.

Yeah, I'm probably not the guy you want to lend your peripherals to. Games are another thing. I treat them like I imagine I would treat a woman if I ever got one naked. And didn't pay for it beforehand.

I've got a bin that conveniently fits right underneath my end table next to the couch. The guitar is leaned up against the wall next to it.

My drums are indeed always set up right next to the tv... that is until about noon day, when the RROD fairy paid me a visit. *frowns*

Now all my plastic instruments hibernate in the guest room closet.

Controllers in a couple of coffee table drawers; guitars and drum set in a corner between the couch and wall. It actually looks pretty clean, when everything is put away where it should be. We'll all just pretend that actually happens...

my brother keeps his Rock Band Stuff right around his bed... until he wants to play it, he then moves it all to the Living room to play on the HD T.V.
