HMV and Asda have always had better deals time to let GAME go extinct
Uh, game station rock the piss out of game.
I'm all about shop to myself, far better prices and pre release delivery!
As for Ninja Gaiden 3, just pre-ordered it last night.
Pretty much all Gamestations are owned by GAME which is why even some Gamestations are not selling ME3 or other games.
It's miles better than my local pokey little game with it's crap stock, awful prices and retarded uninterested staff.
Good riddance
And blockbuster? I thought they were pretty much done, as all I see of them is a redbox type vending setup in a few scattered locations. Are there blockbuster stores, or is it primarily online with them these days?
It's practically a game specialist, who does rentals too...
That is simply stupid. This has nothing to do with publishers trying to "take dow" GAME. GAME took themselves down and this is the result of BAD CREDIT.
When retailers like game get new releases it is done with credit. They don't cut a huge check at one time to buy thousands of copies of a game. If the retailer, GAME in this instance, is about to shut down for good in the next 2 weeks (or longer), the publisher will NEVER recoup the money from the thousands of games the just gave to the retailer.
Assets would be sold of for as much as they can be, generally a fraction of what actual worth it, and be given back to the creditors at a substantial loss.
Modern economics dumbass.
Surely all the dirty laundry will be aired soon enough in bankruptcy court (or "administration" as it was called before, don't know if they are exactly the same thing, boy the UK is weird)
That seems really fucked up mang.
Fuck em still, though. They just can't compete with online retailers.
my experiences of GAME are thus...
Get £150 GAME card for birthday.
Can't use online.
Don't price match own website.
Pay an extra 10% + on everything i buy in store.
NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.
Rise above it Destructoid.
I went into one today... they had mass effect 3 but thats about it.
Anyway, I am sad that Game is going, as you might be able to tell. I suppose if Game's existance isn't judged as an asset to individual publishers, then it isn't their business to bail them out.
Meanwhile, yes there are other stores, and yes, online purchases are generally cheaper, but I'll always miss the idea of just browsing for a random purchase.
A friend of mine suggested that the reason Game is being hit is because of used games. Over time, they recieve millions of used games which sell better the nearer to the launch date they are. However, these games may well get to the point where simply no one is going to buy them. My local Game stores have hordes of copies of the likes of Dark Sector, Rockstar Table Tennis, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo: Elements of Power. So whilst these games may have been initially re-bought by Game for like 3-5 pound, they now sit on shelves for under that price, not going anywhere. That's not to mention the millions of Fifa 10 & 11, and every Madden and NFL game released since launch that doesn't carry a big red shiny 12 on it.
So maybe preowned does work out for some, but with a prolonged console generation meaning people are keeping their consoles longer, there is a whole avalanche of old unwanted games sitting on shelves. Christ, my Game still has a frozen in time PS2 section.
I personally will not miss GAME at all.
