I'm not too bothered if GAME goes under, they always seem to be more expensive and give you less on trade-ins than many of the other retailers like Grainger Games. I do feel sorry for the employees though.
The employees at my old store are happy on a way, try want to see it die because in the 9 years I've not worked there, they've made everything shit for them.

The games were always more expensive compared to gamestation and HMV so I always bought from the latter

It is a damn shame about their employees. That part alone makes the whole ordeal awful. However, I can attest to the changes in my shopping habits. The transition to purchasing online and through digital distribution has won out over box stores. I mean I love getting the game in my hands, but a majority of the time I can get it cheaper and on a whim's notice.
@Sebproductions GAME owns Gamestation, so it has always been weird to me that Gamestation has the better prices.
When I can pre order at shopto dot net, for 10-15% less, AND have it delivered free, BEFORE street date - then GAME can die in a fire.

Screw it - the death of GAMe isn't going to stop anyone from playing videogames, nor will it really harm our hobby in the long run, there are still plenty of places to buy games from, and most of them are way better anyway.

I really have nothing to say considering that I'm American and I'm not a fan of dedicated game retailers. GameStop is nice and all, but they have awful trade-in deals.

I nipped into a couple of my local stores over the weekend. Gotta say I was expecting things to be a little more dire, what with all the claims of slashed prices. But everything was more-or-less the same: improbably high prices on preowned games and smug employees (who seemed oblivious to the fact they might nnot be employees for much longer).
Was amused by all the "Coming Soon" posters with the dates crossed out as they're not stocking them new any more though.

Yeah the 'fire sale' isn't all it's cracked up to be, bar a few cheapies. One employee asked the bloke in front of me if he wanted to pre-order anything and his response was, 'Are you taking the fucking piss?'
Most of the people who were in this particular store just seemed to be there using up whatever points they had left, myself included.
Also, my local Gamestation (which is due to close) had a sign out front asking for trade ins of Mass Effect 3, SFxTekken and SSX...wonder what kind of price they'll be offering?

It's a shame for me if GAME go out of business. We have a CEX that's really close to our GAME and Gamestation, CEX always offer a few more pounds per game you trade in than GAME/Gamestation and as it's under a mile away GAME/Gamestation beat each CEX game price by £1. It really adds up when you trade in bulk!
I also like their prices on second hand accessories. For example I got a virtually brand new Gold Classic Controller Pro for the Wii for £10 and they're usually at least £15 everywhere else.
Oh and I don't know about everyone else's experience with the staff but at our local stores ALL of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable AND gamers. Some of them even come here for their gaming news! Even if that's not the case for some of you, I think you're being harsh. For those of you in the UK, you DO know how hard it is to get a job right now don't you? As someone who's been there, I wouldn't wish that struggle on anyone. Hate the company, not the innocent people whose lives may be adversely affected by all of this. Basically, empathise and have a heart.

They seem to be hoping they're too big to go down, there was some ASDA buyout whispers last week. I think GAME as a highstreet brand will live on in some way but I think they'll close the Gamestation arm.
Even if they do get the money, they'll still have to get the publishers to trust them again, which wont happen immediately...
The only good "oh shit" sale deal has been a very limited run in select stores of a £99.99 320gb PS3 with Assasins Creed Revelations.

I'm hoping the pressure makes them shut all their surplus stores. Most big towns have atleast one too many games as they turned their eb locations into games like 20 years ago. My town has two games within 100 metres of each other for this reason. Its not good business sense, they're not starbucks.
