Game NOT over, yeah! Sega Racing Studios revived by Codemasters photo

I was really bummed when Samit told us that Sega Racing Studios was closing its doors. The 1990s vintage Sega Rally for the Saturn is my favorite racer of all time. The Dreamcast classic Sega Rally 2 isn't far behind on my list. The SRS team did a fair job with their only release, Sega Rally Revo, but the 2005 founded studio barely had a chance to prove themselves before their doors were closed.

Luckily Codemasters snapped up the recently closed studio, according to Next Gen.

In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment,” said Rod Cousens, chief executive of Codemasters.

“We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still.”

This may be the best possible situation. First off, Codemasters' Colin McRae and Race Driver titles are no slouches when it comes to racing titles. They can combine powers with Sega Racing Studios to make an even better racer. Best of all, the Sega Racing Team gets to work again and not be jobless.

Racing fans, are you excited to see what comes of this? Are you worried about the Sega Rally franchise again?

Codies make good racing games, Sega made good racing games, this should hopefully be a good thing.

Cheers Sega Racing Studios

Sega Rally for the Saturn was probably my first "wow" moment of the 32-bit era, and probably my favorite realistic racing game of all time. Make the magic happen guys ;-)

Sega Rally ( maybe not the last one ) has always had a special little place in my heart... Codemasters has always done great stuff, so sounds like a winning combination to me :-)

The first Sega Rally was a great game. Good thing Codemasters are keeping A Good Thing alive.

A lot of the SRS staff were ex-Codemasters anyway, so its more them being given their old jobs. Endless respect to Codemasters for taking them back though.

Don't mindlessly thank Codies on this one! Remember, they're trying to get hold of a lot of talented development staff in one swell foop. It's a shrewd move!

From what I hear, not everyone had been asked to stay and others may not want to stay with Codemasters...

Codemasters cant keep doing the Colin Mcrae titles because Colin McRae died in a helicopter crash last year.
So probably they want a new sega rally title... dont know. Anyway the racing games of codemasters have always been good.
