Yes, it could also be used to play pirated games as well if used properly. These things can also play region locked games but PS3 already does that.
More than likely, Sony will forbid this device (b/c of save transfers and possible DLC unlocking) and will put out constant updates to bypass it or just outright ban your PSN if you use it.

I'm worried about this affecting online games and trophies, sure, but I will use the shit out of this to access on-disc DLC.

Released on Whatever day, used security hole patched with a mandatory firmware update for the PS3 five days later. I don't see this working out.
I have a feeling this will be the first and last we will hear of this. Sorry but the days of this being practical are long gone. Sony will not allow it to protect the integrity of the trophy system as well as online play.
I think now with all the FAQ sites, and youtube videos game genie isn't really needed anymore. Of course it was always fun being able to alter the game in certain ways.
I never respected cheaters using these. By cheaters I mean folks who just break a game and barrel through. Stupid amounts of fun could be had, but under the right circumstances though. Not on your main save. That said, I believe this will be banned damn near immediately if you can access on disc dlc and pirate with it.
"Ability to trade game saves with other players" does not confer the ability to play a game save that is locked to an account, and I strongly suspect it would be restricted to non-copy protected saves.
In fact, I suspect the vast majority of the features listed here are subject to being not connected to PSN, and I also don't see anything in the product description about unlocking on-disc DLC. That is a process that requires at least a key to be downloaded from PSN, and I think they would have to reverse engineer a key on a case-by-case basis.

I think Game Genie is well worth it if for no other reason than to unlock console-locked saves. Seriously, who the hell allowed that to EVER happen? Just to protect non-existent Trophies, so people can make their non-existent penises look bigger?
Locked saves = broken games, as far as I'm concerned. Uncharted didn't do it, Catherine didn't do it, LittleBigPlanet didn't do it. Why in the hell SHOULDN'T I hack my saves onto a USB drive if I want to back MY OWN data up?

This sounds fun, I had a blast messing around in cut-scene only areas in kingdom hearts with gameshark though I hope measures are in place to prevent trophy/multiplayer cheating. DiLC is fairgame though if you ask me.
Oh man. So getting this if it comes out in the UK. There's nothing wrong with cheating in a game that I bought. I play games for my personal amusement, not to prove myself to somebody else's game playing ideals. Personally I think games makers should just skip out the middle-man and put cheat codes into games. That way the multiplayer would be preserved and nobody would bitch.
Can't see Publishers liking this much. Enforced firmware is only gonna get worse with the introduction of this, as kinda cool as it is.

I've never been a fan of things like Game Genie. If you suck at a game, you just need to practice and get better. I also doubt it will work well this generation. Sony will just release an update that renders the Game Genie useless.
I remember having fun getting things in games that would be impossible to get without devices like gameshark or action replay. Pretty much the weirder codes like jumping twice the height you normally could, changing the character model,or something that was pretty much like the noclip feature some pc games have. Haven't had or used any of these forever, didn't even know companies still made them with trophies and achievements being around nowadays.

When modern games make it impossible to lose, where is the market for this? Have the people that made this even played a game in the last decade? If you struggle to overcome the gentle hills of modern challenge, why are you even playing? Might as well stick to movies.
I wonder if this is something that could help usher in the era of mods for console gamers. That would be pretty awesome.

Ahhh game genie, I remember using it to quickly finish games in my backlog. My father-in-law will be ecstatic lol
Only reason i ever used game genie was back in the day on the NES when shit didn't save. I'm cool without it now.

I miss single-player cheat devices. More importantly I miss the ability to see just how much codes can break a game and still keep it functional.
