Dear Luigi,
I apologize for giving you a chance to shine last week when I had you compete against your cousin, Celda. I don't regret having family do battle with one another; when your brother plays with his friends he doesn't come home crying and complaining. He stands up and shines. Hell, they even named one of his games Sunshine. You have been asking us to take you seriously for years, so I go out of my way to give you a chance, and you blew it:
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (126 votes) -- Winner!
- Luigi's Mansion (12 votes)
Hearing you complain about never coming in first isn't funny anymore. It's time you grew up and did something with your life. I blame your parents. What you need is a Paper Luigi Story sneak attack. The consumers will never expect it. Come back when you're ready to hang with the big kids.
Sincerely, half of your family's fans.
I expected Wind Waker to win, but not by such a staggering margin. So this week I must cast aside some of the artsy and innovative games I had planned for two games that could save the third round from getting ugly. Once these odd debates are done I'll come back and revisit titles like Pikmin, Viewtiful Joe and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. As for now, here's two big hitters that have nothing in common except their hopes to give Wind Waker a good fight in the Gamecube finals.
Which game do you think is better, and why? Give it some serious thought, get some Gamecube childhood friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Sure Smash Bros. is good, but it just doesn't hold up to RE4.
My vote is for Melee. Lots of characters to choose from, lots of strategy to keep in account, lots of items to keep track of on the one of many levels you're playing on. Not to mention multiplayer for epic amounts of replay value.
fun > story for this one.
If it was Brawl (since I've played it more) it would have been a harder choice.
I absolutely LOVE RE games as RE is the game that made be buy a PlayStation! That and I really do think all Brawl games blow chunks. I've played a couple and could never get into them.
RE4.
Vote: Smash Bros.
The Nintendo fanboy in my heart just has to do it. I'm not sure even I want to know how many hours I've put into Melee. Mastering every character in every mode on every stage. It's basically what made me meet some of my closest friends in college, too. Pretty important shit. So yeah, as great as RE4 is, I'm giving it to what I think is probably my favorite fighting game ever.
Vote: RE4
What are you buying?
If it was Brawl, i'd have to reconsider, but I didn't like Melee that much.
No contest.
And eh RE4 I guess. Metroid Prime is my favourite GC game though.
I'm continually amazed, considering how much I've played it, that RE4 never seems to get old. It's just always pure, unadulterated fun with a light sprinkling of seat-of-your-pants tension. Awesome.
But RE4 in at a close second. I vote Viewtiful Joe.
RE4 is the only game which I played through twice in a row, then proceeded to watch a friend beat it, while still enjoying myself as much as when I originally played the game. Until then, even with MGS, I had never gotten to the point of screaming at a game while I was not the one playing it. SSBM was great and all, But RE4 was just so well done.
RE4 was a great game, but did I play it regularly for 7 or 8 years? I think not. That game LIVES in my gamecube to this day.
and while we're sort of on the topic...
For this reason, brawl was a failure to me... where melee was a complete overhaul in every area and took the game to new heights its successor really just feels like a perfection of the same game I've BEEN playing all this time. Sure it was an improvement (removed those lame bugs, added some online play, sweet 3rd party characters). But it also slowed down the pace a bit with the new looser physics and game speed. It simply doesn't feel as fresh or as exciting as it should.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is an excellent game, but the evolution of the gameplay / concept wasn't the ground breaking one that RE4 was.
Without Resident Evil 4 we wouldn't have games like Gears of War, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Dead Space wouldn't have quite the polish they are known for.
I have to vote Melee, purely based on the amount of time it's been played, but I still really love RE4 with all my heart.
MELEE!!!
VOTE: Resident Evil 4
