Last week was a lengthy debate filled with great Dtoider arguments on both sides. The discussion ranged from nonlinear versus controlled gameplay to fun-factor versus complexities. A lot of you wrote paragraphs praising one game, only to finish with a "But I still liked the other game better" ending. It's good to see people having an equal amount of support for each game and still being able to comb out the features that separated one game from the other. Last week was certainly a close debate, here are the results:
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: (71 votes) -- Winner!
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (58 votes)
This week we continue our odd debate Xbox tournament with two new contenders. This time we've got an artistic Asian debate to decipher. Ninja Gaiden and Jade Empire have similar settings, but their gameplay and stories diverge in every other way and strive for completely different player experiences.
Which game do you think is better, and why? Give it some serious thought, get some Xbox friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Bonus Question: What is your favorite Ninja Gaiden game in the series so far?

I beat God of War 1 on god mode a week after I did very hard on Ninja Gaiden and laughed at it.
Vote:Ninja Gaiden by a landslide
VOTE: I'm definitely voting for Jade Empire on this one. It's a much more fulfilling gameplay experience.
So yeah, Ninja Gaiden. I hate the word overrated, so ill instead say i dont understand the popularity of Jade Empire at all.
And as said, difficulty was rediculous. I loved the gameplay as well. I vote for NG.
...Long story short, I vote Ninja Gaiden.
Its the best action adventure game of all time, perfectly balanced and had tons of shit to do.
Vote for Jade Empire, just to even it out a little more.
Ninja Gaiden is a decent fighter with a shit story, horrible dialogue, laughable characters!
Jade Empire, KOTOR, Mass Effect... they ALL win hands down.
I couldnt bring myself to like Jade Empire. Maybe it was the Toad Demons. Or the Horse Demons. Or the fact that everyone was Chinese but spoke in definitely-not-Chinese accents. Maybe it was the lame combat, or the stupid Galaga mini-game. Or perhaps the not so compelling story line.
Or maybe I was expecting it to be KotOR but with Asians.
Bonus: Ninja Gaiden II
Bonus Question: none really, I like them all the same, don't see much change in them either over the years, except for the DS-version, that was pretty fresh and original :-)
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden didn't have a story. It had a blonde chick with huge tits who carried a massive axe and stomped the yard with dinosaur demons and a ninja who could use every weapon under the sun and take out helicopters Rambo style with a bow and arrow. And the platforming was pretty cool too. Also it looked gorgeous, something the aged Bioware engine couldn't quite manage.
Ninja Gaiden all the way.
Bonus Answer: Ninja Gaiden 1 on NES of course.
I hated NG. So Repetitive.
Jade was so easy though due to a flaw in combat where you could block and flip over your enemies to their backside over and over to kill them.
In Jade Empire everyone was way too chatty, you talk to some one and it takes 15 minutes for them to stfu
That tends to happen in Role Playing Games.
Anyway, my vote goes towards Jade Empire, as I have for anything related to Chinese mythology and I have never understood the obsession with leather clad "badasses" with tons of redundant weapons and skills.
I'm all for immersion, and even though NG was beautiful, dying once at least every 10 minutes isn't immersion.
Also, NG3 on NES. I know the general consensus is that 2 is better, but I played 3 before it so that's the high watermark for me.
Beautiful graphics, slick fast-paced action, tough as nails and big tits. It's all I ever hoped for in a game.
For the bonus, NG Black. Even though I love the NES ones to death, this game far exceeded my expectations and I thought it was faithful to the classics.
It wasn't perfect, but it was damn awesome, and NG is just way better earlier gen. /shrug
Jade Empire is such an amazing game. Hands down the winner of this debate because I say so.
A million times jade empire it's my favourite game of all time.
even itagaki's sunglasses cannot best this game.
Ninja Gaiden was just not a very fun game, I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm all for challenging games, but when it's so frustrating that it begins to feel like work, then that's just not a very good game really. Besides, it doesn't help the game much when one of the most difficult things about the game was it's shitty camera which somehow got worse in the second game. I'm sorry, people overrated the shit out of Ninja Gaiden, and I think it was done mostly by clouding their judgement with nostalgia of the past Ninja Gaiden games on the NES or their love of the character from the Dead or Alive games.
