Last week we started the PS3 odd debate brackets with two completely different series that have both had a lot of success in past debates. Despite the previous amounts of support for both, the Dtoid Army spoke pretty unanimously last week. Here are the results:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (91 votes) -- Winner!
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma (11 votes)
This week we move on to two games that will hopefully split the votes in different directions. One deals with larger than life FPS violence, while the other offers humorous and mischievous gameplay with a fixed camera view on a much smaller scope. Both games have brought in huge amounts of multiplayer attention, and it's very likely that many voters this week have enjoyed both these games for different reasons, so it will be interesting to see which side wins out in the end.
Which game do you think is better, and why? Give it some serious thought, get some PS3 friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Bonus Question: What was one thing you didn't like about the game you voted for?

Uhhhhhh I pass, I think this is something Sony fans can understand more than I do.
i've noticed that these odd debates lately have been bringing out huge walls of text as answers, and that's exactly what i'm looking for. it shows me you guys are really giving this a lot of thought instead of just voting with your gut. keep on kicking ass everybody!
and if you're not a fan of these odd debates, then no worries -- we're almost out of consoles and will return to the older style of debates. i think i'm gonna go with a PC one, and maybe a PSP and DS one, but that's probably it.
What I didn't like about LittleBigPlanet: HORRIBLE online organization. I've said it before but whoever was involved in preparing and designing their online system deserves multiple swift kicks to the groin. It also took them a hell of a long time to implement minor fixes and they should have seen the copyright issue coming from day one. Also a few other small glitches that have been properly addressed.
Plus, I get no thrill from %99 of FPSs. I need more than walking an shooting to keep me happy.
As for my one gripe with LBP, it's that if your PS3 isn't online, you're missing out on most, if not all, of the games unique powers. I know we're all online, but a estimated %50 of PS3 owners aren't, which makes LBP all but useless to them.
For bonus points, LBP's four-player mode, when you're not having fun, can be incredibly infuriating. Taking turns to get past obstacles, having the camera focus on the one guy left behind instead of the three moving forwards, lots of little problems like that that get in the way of a perfect experience.
But damn those sloppy controls almost ruined it for me
With that said though, it kills me a little inside to say that Resistance 2 gets my vote. I mean, the game is pretty generic and on the surface can not compete with LittleBigPlanet, let alone shooters out currently. But there is the co-op. Oh the co-op!! It was like a drug to me and I needed my grey-tech fix. Working together in teams of 8 made you feel as if you were actually achieving something. You never felt like an invincible man like you do in the single player of most shooters. You actually feel pretty vulnerable going behind enemy lines. But while you feel weak on your own, you know as a team you are strong. And while it became a little too easy and repetitive after everybody started becoming a high level, you knew you could only progress as far as the team was strong. Plus, co-op in Resistance 2 is really the game that caused me to get more involved with Friday Night Fights.
The one thing I did not like about Resistance 2 was the single player. And it is not because it was generic and linear. I loved the boss fights and the scale of the battlefield. I honestly like the story a bit more than the one in Killzone 2 (still haven't beat single player yet). What I didn't like about the campaign though was that it was not co-op!! I honestly hope that Resistance 3 forgoes a single player campaign and somehow works a story around a co-op mode. Also, R2 needed more co-op maps :P
Bonus question: At times, LBP's gameplay can be quite frustrating. More specifically, the way it will auto change which level of depth you are in when you jump sometimes.
My biggest gripe? Ummm...this is hard because I haven't had the game for that long. Probably the moderation of the levels, even though I understand why they do it. I guess that's a lame gripe.
Fronz, come back to the forums man. Don't you remember the good old days? Can't you hear them calling out to you?
Nothing against odd choices, still your post sounded pretty satirical.
Well anyway I would vote for LittleBigPlanet then, I am just sick of the over saturation of first person shooters on this generation and LittleBigPlanet was a complete twist on creativity and stage building as the fundamental spirit. It's also impressive the amount of properties many things have like what made the virtual basic operation calculator possible.
You could have at least gone with Killzone 2.
Maybe how inaccurate some jumps and obstacles can be like in the level with the skeletons, some of the platforms jammed and randomly died.
Maybe I'll get back into the forums. Should I bring my bathing suit? Is the water warm? It's been so long...
I'll build you a God damn hot tub.
Bonus Question: The giant hamster wheel in The Bunker. FUCKING NEEEEEERRRRDRRRRAAAAAAAAAGGGGEEEEEE.
The controls are... Meh. But, other than that, it's a fantastic game! I'm still playing other peoples levels and making my own levels. The music is great. It's endless in replay value. Well designed. I love this game! :D
BQ: 2-player co-op is HAAAAAAAAAAARD :-)
only gripe is the fucking jumping!!!
R2 was generic at best IMO.
Because Resistance 2 is Shit.
Playing Devil's advocate!
Whilst I love Resistance 2, the two black bars at the side of my screen when playing co-op split screen really put a damper on things. They used the full screen in R1, aspect ratio be damned! LBP at least lets you use all the pixels on your shiny HDTV!
VS
The most interesting game in days, a super advanced, modern, virtual meccano set! Different, fun engaging, girlfriend will play with, endless user created content.
No contest.
LBP FTW!
Jonathan Holmes has it right. I mean, I've shot a ton of aliens and mutants in first person. The only time I'm impressed really is when I see realistic damage on bodies (like Soldier of Fortune 2), and when they do something really interesting with it (like the Descent series).
Bonus Question: What will be the better game: LittleBigPlanet2 or Resistance3?
Lbp is a toolkit for glitchy but pretty gameplay.
R2 is a complete product that only loses out because it doesn't have a map editor.
Bonus Question: It's easy (for me) to get stuck in later levels, and when you're stuck there's no more unlocking awesome stuff for your own levels. I spent weeks off and on before finally clearing The Bunker, that giant wheel can go to Hell... That could be my problem more than the game's, but it's what bugs me.
Bonus Q: Everybody is acting like LBP invented the map editor. Has anyone here played Mega Man Powered Up? Timesplitters?
I didn't like Resistance 2. I liked the first one much more and really regret getting the CE. And LBP is so awesome.
It didn't piss me off as much as LittleBigPlanet did, with it's psudo-physics and crap collision detection. Which pretty much ruined the platforming aspect of the game, and the game is a platformer.
The Bunker is a perfect example.
Resistance 2 was incredibly intense and fun from beginning to end. It doesn't reinvent shooters (I guess that's what people expect every shooter to do now, or else it "sucks") but it has large scale battles, amazing weapons, some of the coolest bosses in any shooter I've played, and one hell of an addictive multiplayer.
If I had any problems with it, it would be how the story is handled. You were able to follow the story in the first game fine, with the narrator keeping you updated on everything that was going on. The second game's story was all over the place with the lack of any real narration, I just stopped caring about it.
At risk of making this completely unanimous: LittleBigPlanet.
