Game Debate to the Death! GoldenEye 007 VS The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time photo

Now that the Presidential election is over, we can move on to the debate that really matters! Last week we had a ruthless matchup that readers often compared to picking which of their children they loved more. While there were dozens of votes for both sides, as well a vicious bonus question battle, in the end the winner was clear. Here are the results:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (101 votes) -- Winner!
  • Super Mario 64 (34 votes) -- "Oh no!"
  • Zelda series (27 votes) -- Winner!
  • Mario series (26 votes) -- "Mamma Mia!"

This week we enter the Nintendo 64 odd debate finals bracket, with Ocarina of Time fighting the FPS winner from the first round for the championship. With a single player adventure game versus a multiplayer shooting game, this couldn't be more of an odd debate final for us to decide on. Will nostalgia weigh in more? Or will you make your pick based on how these two games have stood the test of time?

Which game do you think is better, and why? Give it some serious thought, get some N64 childhood friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner. Then we move on to the first PS2 round of these odd debates.

P.S. There's still a few Mind Teasers that are unsolved!

Goldeneye

When it comes down to it I beat OoT once, I never had a reason to play it again it's always the same game. However, I still play Goldeneye on occasion with my brother. I love smoking people at it. It's hard to find anyone that's good at it anymore.

Goldeneye for me. I played my N64 with other people most of the time and games like this and Turok brought a lot of memories through my childhood.

They both are.

Golden eye is overatted and now dated on top of that.

Pc shooters at the time was far superior in everyway to that craptstic game and then along came other ones like Unreal a short time later that made it look even more like the dated dinosuar it was.

and forgod sake the game practically aim for you since the analog sticks for fps sucks balls and still does there is no fun in that.

and the last Good mind blowing zelda game was the snes the ne64 games was not it.

So ill say again they both sucked.

Oh god... turok... the only game worse than goldeneye.... I pitty you good thing I only rented that since there was nothing else on the n64 that was decent then I spit on it.

I feel sorry for you that would be like me having found memories of sewer shark on sega cd since my friend gave it to me.

Well No i might like it better since I did not have to go jumping on tiny little wooden poles with crappy analog stick view controls, I just had to watch a dumb fmv game mindlessly.

See reflections on the water
More than darkness in the depths
See him surface and never a shadow
On the wind I feel his breath

Goldeneye, I found his weakness
Goldeneye, hell do what I please
Goldeneye, no time for sweetness
But a bitter kiss will bring him to his knees

Youll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child
Youll never know how it feels to be the one whos left behind
Youll never know the days and the nights, the tears, the tears Ive cried
But now my time has come and time, time is not on your side

See him move through smoke and mirrors
Feel his presence in the crowd
Other girls they gather around him
If I had him I wouldnt let him out

Goldeneye, not lace or leather
Golden chain take him to the spot
Goldeneye, Ill show him forever
It will take forever to see what Ive got

Youll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child
Youll never know how it feels to get so close and be denied
Its a gold and honey trap Ive got for you tonight
Revenge is a kiss this time I wont miss
Now Ive got you in my sight

With a goldeneye
Golden, goldeneye
With a goldeneye, goldeneye

Personally Ocarina of Time is the closest thing to a perfect game i have ever played.

Goldeneye was pretty amazing. and that game still gets played on a regular basis.

But my vote is for OoT.

Zeeeeeeeelda!

I was raised on PC gaming... So by the time Goldeneye came out, we'd already been spoilt by The Doom, Quake, Hexen series, plus Duke Nukem 3D and Blood!

So, yeah... never really impressed by GE.

Why not just ask if there is anything Zelda could NOT beat!

Both great games, but Zelda wins hands down (as it always will against anything).

Brace yourself, because here comes something that will be hard to swallow: I NEVER played a Zelda game. I tried the NES-versionn back in the days, but it never really appealed to me.

On the other hand, I spent countless hours, probably weeks playing Goldeneye. It took a long time before a better shooter appeared on any system.

So here's my vote: Goldeneye FTW!

Ocarina of Time. No competition. At the time 007 was fun but playing it today is never as good. Ocarina is just epic and awesome, a graphical update would kick ass.

Ocarina of Time here. It's just a better game. It was longer, had a better story, better levels, more interesting bad guys, and wicked cool puzzles.

Zelda gets my vote, fellas!

This is tough. These two games, and the type of enjoyment they afforded are completely different. They are also two of my favorite 64 titles of all time...but I have to say, I don't play them anymore.

Goldeneye sessions were a daily after-school occurrence for a long time. My friends and I even had a rivalry with another group of kids in school, serious shit.

However, Oot was maybe the best single player, alone-play experience that I remember on the 64.

Vote: Ocarina of Time. I'll most likely play it again at some point, but not Goldeneye.

Not to go off topic, but are people saying Oot is overrated now, or it was overrated at the time it came out?

I've been reading Destructoid for about 2 years now, about time I signed up.

Ocarina of Time was the first game I ever played that had more than just simple A-to-B content. No doubt GoldenEye is a firm favorite of mine, but hot damn I love me some Ocarina.

Vota: Ocarina of Time.

007 was Halo before Halo was Halo or something like that. My vote is Jimmy Bond for the win. Het you know what, that would be a good debate...who is the best Jim or Jimmy or James from Games, Movies, Comics and cartoons....so many to choose from it would be epic. Just image round one James Bond vs Earth Worm Jim and Jimmy Olson from Superman vs Jimmy Deam the sausage guy. Jimmy Kimmel vs Jimmy Neautron. Jim Sterling vs Jim Carey. James T Kirk vs Jim Henson...my point is that would be an epic battle as I am sure there are quite a few game characters I am leaving out but if someone with writing skills was to put this together I would read it 4rizzle.

Goldeneye with current gen FPS controls would be amazing. But as it stands, OoT is still the king of all games.

I vote for Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This game gave me such an amazing feeling years back when I first played it. I must confess Goldeneye also gave me a feeling like that but it wasn't quite as intense. For all the days I counted down waiting for Zelda... I hope it wins. It was worth the wait and is an amazing game.

Zelda!
