Last week's debate had us all rocking out to our own tunes, then South Park called us fags, and then we rocked out some more. The results are in, and it looks like there's a clear winner in Dtoid's Battle of the Bands 06 debate:
- Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s: 5 votes
- Guitar Hero: 15 votes
- Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock: 17 votes
- Guitar Hero II: 43 votes -- Winner!
Next year we'll have Rock Band and Guitar Hero go head to head, but this week we shift the focus to another game series that started slow and then caught on like wildfire. Back in 2004 a little game called Katamari Damacy came out and quickly collected katamari dust on the shelves, while a few of us kicked and screamed and pleaded that it wasn't getting the recognition it deserved. Word of mouth eventually paid off, and since then we've had three other fabulous friction games to enjoy. Few game characters have brought me as much joy as King of the Cosmos has, and this week is dedicated to him and his faithful Prince.
Which of the four
Katamari games shown in the picture above did you enjoy the most so far, and why? Give us a reason for your
Damacy decision, get some friends to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

DAMACY FTW
Watch for yourself if you don't believe me.
All the others are the same game in a different, less original, set of clothes anyway. This is the only real game in the "series."
People make fun of Mario for being derivative and over-used. Apparently none of those people played the Katamari game(s).
If ye have not played it, you would say otherwise.
I'm with Tron on this one. I like these games for the fun colorful environment and new gameplay concept, but I keep coming back to the series because of the music. I havent played me and my, but Beautiful Katamari didnt blow me out of the water like the other two. I especially liked going to space and something besides the same fucking place slowly getting more congested.
I love the sheer volume of things to find and collect. Being a huge fan of finding and collecting, I love all the Katamari games, but this one is better. The graphics are worlds better, while still maintaining the distinctive anti-graphic look.
Also, it is where I met Lucha, my favorite cousin by far.
Kuru Kuru Roku was debuted on this game. Best song they've done for the series. Also the missions were the most ludicrous. A million roses for you. Oh and you have to collect them for yourself first.
Really, it was the best game in the series so far. I don't dislike Beautiful, but it does seem shorter than the other entries.
Me and My was AWFUL. This game is only playable with dual analog. Sorry.
Don't even get me started on Me & My Katamari's controls or Beautiful Katamari's dubious downloadable content.
improved on the first one without becoming lame.
It was just so amazing and original that all the rest didnt compare to that same feeling I felt when I first played!
Also, Lonely Rolling Star = happiest song evar
After playing Beautiful Katamari, I'm pretty convinced that they could just keep cranking out the sequels and I would play them all without complaint. As long as the levels are new, I don't really care if there are any big changes to the formula. Katamari is always fun, no matter what.
My vote goes to Katamari Damacy, since it was totally awesome and I have fond memories of playing it.
the controls were balls
but it was portable katamari!
Me and My Katamari is a terrible game, and anyone who voted for it should be shot.
the music is top notch....especially the relaxed etheral tune that plays when you roll up the cosmos. i used to just leave it on, playing in the background.
the varied gameplay is awesome...sure it's rolling up stuff, but each level was uniquie...i'm partial to the speed track and sumo levels and replayed them more than i should have.
the "final" level where you get to roll up everything...took it a step beyond the original with all the monuments and everything.
and the story made sense...somewhat. though i'm not entirely sure that's necessarily a positive thing for this series.
but it was the best by far. granted i haven't played beautiful katamari yet, but have heard it's pretty weak overall.
It came out of no where and filled me with equal parts confusion and pure elation.
Variation = Win
It's sad, the series really lost its steam after We <3 Katamari. Beautiful Katamari really just felt like it was going through the motions.
Godspeed, Mr. Takahashi, wherever you are.
Katamari Damacy
My vote has to go to We <3 Katamari. It just felt like a slight improvement over the original and it still gets played in my house from time to time. A rare achievement for a game that old.
