Game Debate to the Death!<br>Twisted Metal series VS Gran Turismo series photo

Last week's debate was a simple showdown that took us back a digital decade to a pair of old games that helped get us all addicted to computer gaming. It was an uphill battle for the Rodent's Renvge cat and mouse strategy game, which sadly only led straight to the Abominable Snowman. In the end, SkiFree's landslide verdict resulted in an avalanche sized Windows win. Here are the results:

  • SkiFree: 18 votes -- winner!
  • Rodent's Revenge: 7 votes

This week we remain in the past, and debate over two series whose genre is the same, but gameplay style is similar at best. Do you prefer the fast and focused racing that the Gran Turismo series had to offer in the past? Or were you busy studying for your driver's license by bombing and bashing other demolition drivers in the Twisted Metal series?

Which do you think is the better series, and why? Give us a reason for your decision, get some friends to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

[Thanks to MrJunko for the awesome art you see above.]

I enjoyed GranTurismo 3, I never got a chance to play 4. However, I'm confident it was just is good. I never could get into the Twisted metal games.

TWISTED METAL ... When I was 12 year old, one of my three first PC game (along with Tomb Raider 2, and on other game that I forgot).

GT -> some shitty ps exclusive stuff..

TM vs. GT? wtf! Seriously though, I love both these franchises its going to be hard to pick just one. Twisted Metal 2 and Twisted Metal Black are still two of my favorite multiplayer games yet the abysmal TM 3 and 4 bring the franchise down. Because of that I'm going to have to go with Gran Turismo, a franchise which has really never had a "bad" game.

Obviously this debate will probably boil down mainly to which type of car games you prefer, which is exactly what I want to know.

For me it's simple: screw nascar and screw gran turismo. every twisted metal 2 multiplayer match was unique and exciting, whereas the gran turismo's greatest change from game to game are graphics and more car accessory options i don't care about. gran turismo is like The Sims for cars, except it's not fun at all. I'd rather play a gangsta racing game at the risk of listening to music I don't like, just because I know the levels will be way more exciting than stupid ol' Gran Turismo. 1080p will be that series' saving grace.

if it weren't for the steady supply of GTA and Mario Kart games, i'd be aching for another twisted metal game, although twisted metal 2 was honestly the only one i really really enjoyed. don't take candy from strangers!

Vote: Twisted Metal.

Twisted Metal - guns, bombs, killer soundtrack, murderous clowns, and evil ice-cream truck. Need I say more? Fantastic game, not enough car combat games these days...

Twisted metal is obviously cooler... but aren't these two completely different games? I've actually never played a GT game for more than a few minutes, I'm not a racing fan except for Dirt...that game is amazing.

I haven't played either of these games to any great extent, but I can't see many people going for Gran Turismo when there is a car game that let's you blow shit up to a pumping soundtrack. Gran Turismo vs. Forza Motorsport and Twisted Metal vs. Burnout might have been more interesting debates IMO.

I'm going with Gran Turismo. Since I'm a 360 guy, I haven't played a GT game in years, but I can remember my PS One days.

My answer is simple in that Gran Turismo will last me longer. It's harder to get better at. You keep doing those turns until you hit that apex perfect. You try with every car and you can feel the difference (racing sims do that) and it's fun tweaking cars. Noticing the differences every time.

I'm a car nut, so my pick is GT.

Twisted Metal, without a doubt.

The characters are all so unique and fun, while Gran Turismo's characters are...nonexistent. Meh.

I don't know. I haven't liked a Twisted Metal since 2, but the only real fun that I have with GT titles is screwing around in the garage... the game itself is too exacting.

Uh, I'm not really a fan of either series. Gran Turismo has gotten stale as it's been the same game since the very first installment. Twisted Metal offers more variety, but just isn't my cup of tea. My vote goes to Gran Turismo, grudgingly.

Twisted Metal, certainly. GT has nice graphics and very realistic gameplay, but sometimes realistic translates to boring. Both games involve cars, but TM is about destroying them. Not to mention, the crazy storylines for TM.

TM WOO!!

GT is great and all since as a guy I obviously love cars, but TM is just wholesome fun, especially when with a bunch of friends. If I want a car simulation I'll actually go the fuck outside and work on one instead of taking the easy way out to watch cars go around a track while watching some shiny scenery.

Anyway, while TM3 wasn't great, I think I had a lot of fun with it still. Me and a friend played co-op on TM4 and the end fight with Sweet Tooth was funny as hell. We camped on top of this one place you had to transport to and my friend made a perfectly timed shot at the moment the clown came out of the transport. BOOM! After using heat sinking missile he shot the bastard so high up sweet tooth actually flew out of bounds upwards and died.

There is also another thing Twisted Metal had GT didn't and that was an awesome soundtrack. In fact you could actually use TM3 as a normal CD in a CD player and play all the songs on it. That was brutal.

Even though Gran turismo has gotten stale, its teh game that brought me over to playstation. so ill go with GT.

PS. take a look at the sale charts of the 2 games

gran turismo is the only other game that sells over 10 million besides grand theft auto games... twisted metal games? a little over 1 million each

I vote for GT. Twisted Metal is a great game, of course, but nothing beats the feeling of driving through Paris at night with your brand-spanking photorealistic new Nissan 350Z.
