Game Debate to the Death!<br>Super Smash Bros. Beatdown! photo

Last week's debate was between the two terrors you see above. Thanks to all those who submitted game debate art -- the two pictures above belong to Dtoiders Hildebrant (left) and MrJunko (right), and I attached the rest of everyone's awesome art below.

So, who did we decide was the biggest and baddest of them all last week? There were hundreds of comments that went back and forth for both sides, with rape pictures of Pyramid Head as support for one side, and videos of Pyramid Head getting owned by a plank as support for the other side. Once the dust settled, the art you see above is a pretty good summary of how the votes turned out. Here are the results:

  • Big Daddy: 62 votes
  • Pyramid Head: 116 votes -- winner!

This week, in honor of finally getting what we want from Nintendo . . . sorta . . . the debate is based on Super Smash Bros. 64.  Instead of arguing over which Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter character was the best, I want to know which Nintendo 64 fighter you thought was the best. Back when we didn't have online console gaming, which one of these classic characters did you use the most to dominate your friends time and time again:

  • Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, Fox, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Link, Luigi, Mario, Ness, Pikachu, Samus, Yoshi

Which is the best fighter, and why? Cast your votes, give us a reason for your decision, get some N64 buddies to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner. Once the 64 bit dispute is settled, we'll quickly move on to Melee and up the ante and voting options.

My best was Ness, followed by Captain Falcon, then Kirby. I hated Melee, original Smash for the fucking win!!! I still play it all the time. I hope Brawl is nothing like Melee.

DK had the over-powered throws, but Pikachu had speed and the staggering aerial attacks to combo from.

Pikachu, ftw.

You guys have no taste -- Samus. She wasn't particularly good at anything, but a certain finesse was required to play with her.

Plus, she has the Vegeta Canon, Destroyer of Heroes. Provided you have a good sense of timing.

Kirby and Pikachu were top tier for that game, Ness was up there on some lists too.

I personally preferred Pikachu even though I felt like Kirby was a better character. So Pika-Pika!

I am going to go right ahead and guess I am one of the few people that put the effort into being good with Pikachu. I loved that little guy and his "omg if i don't pull off this I am going to die" double jump got me out of many a pinch.

And i want some serious explanations this week folks, i've always been curious what everyone's beliefs were on this game!

for me, i started playing as Luigi, then remembered skilled jumping was a valuable asset, and jumped to playing as Link for a while, then realized i was a jumping whore, went straight to Kirby, and never looked back. Being able to puff his fat ass so much on the screen means you almost never just "fall off the map" and it means if you ever need to get out of a situation u can just rise above it further than anyone else... then brick it straight down.

and truthfully, the thing i love the most in any smash bros game is the items. keep them on and ill win more than most people, but take them off and i wont win many. my aim is deadly, and since kirby can rise the highest, and slowly floats down, it lets me aim up ridiculous shots across the screen that kill steal all the damn time.

vote = kirby

@ShadowXOR -- I agree. Melee is awesome for having way more characters and tons more extra features (trophies up the wazoo), but Melee's gameplay felt TOO smooth for me, and I still play SSB64 more way more than I do Melee.

For me, levels matter the most in SSB games -- Melee's levels are the only thing that keeps me coming back to it. So if Brawl's levels are solid I'll play it for a long time, but if they're lousy, I'll go straight back to SSB64.

Cpt. Falcon all the way because my friend always knew when to us Falcon Punch and the N64 controller was shaped weird so I would just hit him in the nuts with one of the edges of the controller.

Pikachu!

Me and a friend completely dominated 2 vs 2 with pikachus, once you got struck by a thunder you would get struck again at leas 5 times.

Ness. I choose Ness because of his versatility. His ability to float through the air with grace when he jumps. His skills with a baseball bat close up, yo-yo for a bit more distance, and of course his ability to absorb electric/fire based attacks to heal himself. If you get his third jump down then it's the best in the game. Sending Ness far off into the level, and strongly damaging anyone who comes in contact with him while he does so. I love Ness in that game.

Mario! MARIO! For an in close beat down like nobody's business, Mario FTW! (Yes, I know he's not top tier... fuck your tiers)

Plus, the cape in Melee really added to his awesome as a character.

I always liked to use Link or Mario. They were both pretty good characters and I was able to use them to beat my friends. What about levels though? My favorite was Safforn City where the pokemon came out on the top.
