In the last debate, I asked everyone what their favorite Final Fantasy film was, and was pleasantly surprised to not tally up a landslide of votes tonight. This is exactly why I occasionally risk running lopsided polls, because it's refreshing to be proven completely wrong about your expectations of the general consensus every once in a while. Kind of like back in 2000 and 2004, right? Anyways, below are the far from shutout results:
- Favorite Final Fantasy movie:
- 1st: Advent Children (51 votes) -- Winner!
- 2nd: The Spirits Within (37 votes)
For this week, I'm using Magesx's game debate submission in the comments from a few weeks ago. I've thought of doing Devil May Cry debates before, and I've thought of doing Ninja Gaiden debates as well, but I've never thought to have the two series face off against each other in one big blood bath.
So for this week, I want to know which series you enjoy more, and what has made it so enjoyable? Is it because one has better gameplay? One is harder than the other? One is too hard? Maybe one game ruined the whole series? Or does the story of one of the two series have more meaning to you? Give it some serious thought, cast your votes, get some button mashing friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Bonus Question: How long did it take you to beat each game you've played in the Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden series? It's bragging rights time!
Aside from my troubles regard Ninja Gaiden 2, the gameplay is smooth, quick, satisfying, and deep. I enjoy DMC but the gameplay feels more like I'm hammering the pistols around and occasionally doing the same 4-5 combos with cool but under-developed melee weapons. Besides, it has God of War's (or GoW stole DMC's?) sandbag feature, whereby all the enemies feel like sandbags. It has the better plot though, but I don't need crap like story in a game about a guy with a sword and things to kill.
how long did it take? I dunno. DMC1 took a good while, DMC2....few hours. DMC3...probably the longest as I had to readjust from DMC2's easy system of "shoot everything with Uzis" BS. DMC4 not so sure. didn't take long though.
Royal Guard FTW!
The older ones really don't hold a candle to the the newer DMCs or NG.
DMC4 was good, but they really needed more...of everything. More weapons, more unlockables. It suffered from "Madden" syndrome. You know, where they release the new version of their game on the new consoles, but take out half the features of the old one.
don't forget the lazyness of playing throught Nero, then doing a "reverse track" with Dante. Basically cleaning up the Trash Nero was too weak to finish off.
DMC4 was a big letdown for a game that was supposed to be a launch.
Second : The smoothness of graphics and cinematics in the DMC series is on par with Blizzard cinematic movies, just phenomenal.
Third : Ok ninja guidan and DMC are very similar game styles, upgrade weapons and learn new abilities, but Devil May Cry has one thing Ninja Guidan does not, Dante, this character has been changed in ever game in the series! Ryu is still the same ninja with the same playing style. DMC 3 and 4 offer something totally different then that of other games of this genre, custimization. In DMC 3, which is still my favorite, u not only unlock harder and harder difficulties, u also unlock styles of gameplay. RoyalGaurd, Trickster, Gunslinger, Swordsman, QuickSilver, etc. Each one has a completely different feel. Further more DMC 4 adds a new character with his own fighting style as well as a different weapon system and power up demon system. Plus Bloody Palace is one hard fucking minigame.
Granted i havent liked ninja guidan for awhile, i will not say the game sucks, because it does not, however i do not feel it out does DMC in any way except maybe the dismembered limbs category.
I beat demon hunter in 1 day, i beat son of sparda a week later and that took me a few days of on n off playing, and Bloody Palace i make it to the upper 30s constantly but have trouble from there out because i run outta time! :\
(oh and for DMC5, more weapon choices for Dante please...)
One word: consistency.
P.S. CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL
Jump canceling killer bees with a DT just-release to almost 1-shot bosses on DMD mode can't be beat. Seriously.
The technical aspects are forced in Ninja Gaiden and don't reach the level of depth in DMC.
So they're both awesome games, but Devil May Cry is great to watch, but Ninja Gaiden is better to play.
1, 3, and 4 are simply awesome. The game can be challenging without being frustrating, but more than anything the Dante makes the series shine.
But when it comes to story, I prefer DMC. I like the whole Divine Comedy aspect of it, and it just seems to have a more... followable storyline. The gameplay is... eh. I beat them all relatively quickly (except 4, I have yet to play it).
I'll go with DMC.
Plus, DMC4 took me a few days to finish, while Ninja Gaiden 2 has been brutally raping my ass for the past week and a half.
All in all, DMC wins. The anime was good too, although boring at some points.
that's easy: DMC, hands down.
Even though Ninja Gaiden was a good game, my vote goes to Devil May Cry.
Why can't you have both? :(
Plus, the original NES trilogy owns as well. I can beat the original game with no continues. I've done it with only losing one life, and that was to Jacquio, that bastard.
