Last week's debate might as well have been "Is Jack Thompson an idiot or not?" -- because one of the Grand Theft Auto contenders had a flat tire right from the starting line. Here are the unnecessary photo finish results:
- Grand Theft Auto III: 22 votes
- G.T.A. Vice City: 80 votes -- winner!
It just goes to show you should never mess with the 80s, and yet, I shall put the decade debates to the test once again. This week's matchup is a music freebird for all between all four of the Guitar Hero games that have been released so far. Here are your choices this week, as seen in the picture above:
These four games span several decades and genres of music, so don't be too quick to cast your vote this week. If you need a refresher of all the songs in each game, just click on each of the four links above. This is also one of the only weeks I'd actually advise voting even if you've played none of the games, since your opinions will probably be mostly dependent on your music tastes.
Which do you think is the best Guitar Hero game so far, and why? Give us a reason for your decision, get some band buddies to give their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Because the Drums.
(seriously though, Guitar Hero II because it was the one that got me hooked into the series and got me to appreciate some older songs that I didn't care for before)
Three reasons
1.Slayer
2.Metallica
3.Rage Against the Machine
T3H END.
The first one for the 360, had a decent song list, and if you relly liked the first one, you could download it.
Guitar hero III could be better...but shoot Guitar Hero II just came out for the 360 less than a year ago...too much to soon.
Introduced me to it, and my friends completely whored my house out for it when I got it... literally sleeping over for days just to play.
Kept the basic formula, added more tracks, a practice mode.
Kept things simple
Good stuff.
If you were to base it on the tracklistings alone, yeah, there's no way the original can compete now. However, the songs just felt better in 1 than any other. I think in an effort to make the rock seem more...rockin', GH made damn near every song epic, which sounds fine in concept but ends up being more of an undertaking than a fun, arcade-like experience.
- Even Rats
- No One Knows
- Guitar Hero
- Bark at the Moon
- Crossroads
- Sail Your Ship By
- Cowboys From Hell
- Godzilla
- Frankenstein
- Spanish Castle Magic
- Thunderkiss '65
- Get Ready 2 Rokk
- Cheat on the Church
Great songs, well-rounded as others have pointed out. If there had been more original masters, this game would get more props for its soundtrack, but it still had (overall) more competent covers than the later games have. More than the other two, it introduced me to some great stuff that I listen to quite a bit to this day. Too bad they raped us for downloads on 360 instead of giving us a proper reissue. That could have been easy money.
-Master Tracks
-Pearl Jam
-Smashing Pumpkins
-Rage Against the Machine
-Metallica
Question: Are PS3's Rock Band and GH III controller backwards-compatible with the PS2 GH I and II emulated on PS3?
Reason: My favourite soundtrack by far. Sure the series became more refined as time went on, and the songs dont pose much of a challenge anymore, the original still seems to have had the most love put into it. Plus I will never get tired of playing Even Rats.
I mean, hell, you rock off against the Devil to The Devil Went Down to Georgia. How awesome is that?
That being said, Guitar Hero 2 felt like it was paced a lot better, it wasn't actively trying to cripple you for life (I'm looking at you, Dragonforce, I'm looking at you)
Why?

He's burninatin' all you peasants!
GHII wins my vote because it was an huge step up from the great first game. Harmonix created an amazing game in GHI and did nothing but perfect it with the sequel. Also GHII wins out my vote from GHIII because Neversoft completely sold out GHIII. The songs note charts are inflated in difficulty for no reason and your lead singer looks like Kermit the Frog on crack. ROCK BAND - NOVEMBER 20TH WOOHOO
Everybody knows that heat is the oneeee

heaaaat is the oneeee.
I bought a copy off ebay.
Those games were the shit, number 2 was the best.
GH 1 was great and a very close 2nd.
GH2 had a dreadful soundtrack.
GH 80's was a cash grab and a complete waste of money.
Think I'll go with GH2 for 360. Splitting the difference.
Oh, and Johnny Napalm and Xavier Stone by have the best outfits and looks in GH2
