Game Debate to the Death!<br>Favorite Pokemon species and Pokemon game? photo

In the last debate, we discussed which Mario Kart tracks from the past gave us the best memories. Spanning three consoles with dozens of courses to choose from, it was a good topic to finish up our several month debate theme of "favorite multiplayer levels." For an even more in-depth look at the Mario Kart games, I also asked everyone what their favorite items/power-ups from the entire series were. Below are the first and second place finishers from both categories:

  • Favorite Mario Kart track: Rainbow Road > Wario Castle
  • Favorite Items: Triple Red Shell > Lightning Bolt

For this week, we're using Reaprar's suggestion from two weeks ago, and tackling every Pokémon game ever made in search of the most loved pokemon critter of all time. Above you can see (if you squint) the original 151 pokémon, and the picture in the gallery below contains every single squiggly pokémon invented to date. Check them out one by one and make Pokédex mental notes before coming to your decision.

So, which single pokémon creature is your favorite, and why? Is it because you loved his or her evolution path the most? Or just because they looked badass? Or maybe you're making your decision purely based on their gameplay? Give it some serious thought, cast your vote and reasons, get some Pokémon trainer friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: Which Pokémon game so far has been your favorite? Why?

My favorite so far is Octillery- still waiting on a true squid, so he'll have to do.

As far as the games in the series are concerned... It may be the retrogoggles talking, but I still think they've yet to outdo Silver/Gold. If you want a more detailed opinion on the games, I wrote one a few days ago.

evee, simply for the routes you could evolve it. I personally liked focusing on the electric evolution, but i had all. and red was the best, got that for christmas and played it the whole car ride from southern california to sacramento.

Favorite game has to be Diamond, since I only recently (February) picked it up and it has since devoured my social life.

Favorite pokeman? I've got to give it to Ludicolo. The reasons are fairly obvious.

MOTHERFUCKING SQUIRTLE.

Bonus question:

Pokemon Crystal. It had a much deeper story and the newer Pokemon were actually cool that time. Also, the mystery of the unknown was pretty cool, and it was a much longer game.

Articuno was the shit man. one of like 3 ice pokemon, + it was able to learn Fly for cheap hit and run attacks. runner up is Charizard for his ass kickery. Ah I remember when I first played through, I was such a newb, i traded my Ivysaur for a level 100 Muk. also the pokerap was awesome.

Okay. I have two entries. Mine and my girlfriends.

Mine: Scyther (no pick for favorite game...was never big on the games...but as a geek/dork/whatever, I used to watch the cartoon.)

My girlfriend: Arcanine. Her favorite colored game was Red.

I enjoyed pokeymanz Blue/Red the most, the others arent really original. That being said, I did actually buy Diamond to see if anything had been changed through the years... not much has but it was pretty fun.

Anyway, Charizard, Gyrados, Scyther and Kadabra are my top four. Original and awesome

Favorite game is Red for the same reason. I ate that game UP in 7th grade. I was also not in the popular crowd in 7th grade.

Gold and Silver were the best. It went just beyond the first games without going too far. They had just added more pokemon to the game without going overboard, there wasn't the whole confusion with the new numbering system, they introduced the whole breeding system as well as the night and day and day of the week. All games after that were either remakes, took out some of the finer features of the game, or just had ridiculous amount of even more ridiculous monstrosities.

Favorite pokemon is not debatable because it's all on a value system. Some like appearance or what not, some are huge on a specific pokemon's statistical value. Personally I like Eevee. Why? Because it was fucking cute.

Also I preferred blue over red, silver over gold, ruby over sapphire, firered over leafgreen, and diamond over pearl. I don't know why. I usually owned them all since I had no friends and was forced to trade with myself.

Also, I did not consider yellow, crystal, or emerald because I saw those as kind of a special edition sort of thing and of course they were usually better than the other two from the same generation.

And I think I pretty much outted myself as a pokemon freak. And not like the normal kind that just thinks about stats. It was the first game that I had when I was old enough to really get into.

Gyarados because it's a rite of passage for every new Pokemon game to evolve your shitty Magikarp into moderately over-powered Gyarados. And Crystal version because it synthesized two of the best entries of the series into one game.

Meowth, even if he is weak, he can steal, has a coin on his head and can speak so he wins. And my favourite game would be silver, that game was awesome for it's time.

As for best game, I would have to go with Gold. It's really under appreciated by people who liked pokemon for the games alone, as they (myself included) didn't give a shit about new and uninspired pokemon. I mean the kids that watched the anime were used to the new guys before the game was even out. But this game is the total package, same great gameplay but with 16 gyms. Hell, the original game is pretty much just thrown in there. It felt like the whole upside-down castle thing in SotN to me.

And the best pokemon ever is Sudowoodo.

Caterpie and Sandslash were the shit.
I have a weird obsession with never letting my favourite pokemon evolve, its so much cooler having a level 100 unevolved pokemon.

Also blue was the best version cause its the only one where I trained a pokemon up to 100 without any cheats or glitches

GAH, THIS IS LIKE TELLING ME TO PICK MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD....

Scyther is really bad ass looking, so is Electrabuzz, but my choice is Snorlax. That fucker could roll on top of you and smother you in all that fat. And fuck that new baby snorlax (munchlax?).

Favorite game, gold. Red/Blue was awesome, (120 of any item trick ftw) but gold added so many new things and was awesome. Then adding the original gyms into it was icing on the cake.

I liked the yellow best. I always kept Butterfree because it had powerful psychic attacks and its dust attacks were good for catching pokemon. Simply writing that last sentence has now made me three times more attractive to women
