Game Debate to the Death!<br>Favorite Pokemon species and Pokemon game? photo

In the last debate, we discussed which Mario Kart tracks from the past gave us the best memories. Spanning three consoles with dozens of courses to choose from, it was a good topic to finish up our several month debate theme of "favorite multiplayer levels." For an even more in-depth look at the Mario Kart games, I also asked everyone what their favorite items/power-ups from the entire series were. Below are the first and second place finishers from both categories:

  • Favorite Mario Kart track: Rainbow Road > Wario Castle
  • Favorite Items: Triple Red Shell > Lightning Bolt

For this week, we're using Reaprar's suggestion from two weeks ago, and tackling every Pokémon game ever made in search of the most loved pokemon critter of all time. Above you can see (if you squint) the original 151 pokémon, and the picture in the gallery below contains every single squiggly pokémon invented to date. Check them out one by one and make Pokédex mental notes before coming to your decision.

So, which single pokémon creature is your favorite, and why? Is it because you loved his or her evolution path the most? Or just because they looked badass? Or maybe you're making your decision purely based on their gameplay? Give it some serious thought, cast your vote and reasons, get some Pokémon trainer friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: Which Pokémon game so far has been your favorite? Why?

SandSlash cause he looks so badass. Also, the move Dig is awesome.

My favorite game so far is Pokemon Crystal for the GBC. I think it had the best mix of monsters.

I am going to have to vote for Charmander. You always remember your first Pokémon.

Favorite game so far? Probably Pokémon Pearl, because they're all the same game basically, with better graphics and more features as the games go on.

For me, I'm voting for Kadabra (Not Alakazam), because he looked more interesting than any other pokemon, and since I didn't get Alakazam until late in the game, I used Kadabra more than probably any other pokemon.

Bonus Question:
I'm going with Pokemon Gold, since it had every single improvement I was hoping for after playing and loving Pokemon Red.

favorite pokemon has got to be Bulbasaur and his evos. He was just the coolest thing i recall from when i was 7.

Favorite games would hve to be the 2nd gen/metal gen/ or g/s/c ones. They were the most innovative out of all the series imo, w/ the day/night and the week system and the largest ammount of land to explore. For some reason the big N denies us that same expanse that we had back then. :p

Charizard for fave Pokemon . . .
Pokemon Gold for fave game. Gold took everything that was amazing about Red, then added a huge amount of new content . . . and then kept virtually all the old content! And we all know that Red/Gold/Ruby are better than gimpy Blues & Silvers :D

Blue because that's all I ever had?

And uh... Snorlax, for smashing everyone on screen. I'm not sure how one that isn't a meme will win though.

I personally fell in love with Scyther. I dunno why. Back during Red/Blue days, I was obsessed with trying to catch Scyther. One of the better bug/Grass type. Scizor makes Scyther 10 times ass raping but I still love Scyther. Come on...a Ninja Praying Mantis? That's a fucking win kid.

favorite game? I'd easily have to say the Gold/Silver Generarion with the original Red/Blue being extremely close. Red and Blue is awesome but Gold silver basically fixes what's wrong with Red and blue. Adds a Phone system (which needs to return.) a radio station for added fun, 2 new types (dark and Steel.) along with my second fave pokemon Umbreon, and twice as more legendaries to worry about. Lets also not forget the fact after you finish the Gold/Silver 8, you can go back and face the original 8 and Then Red (Manga main character of Pokemon.)

Gold and Silver had so much junk piled into it that it really needs to be redone. Diamond/Pearl didn't really satisfy my tasts as Gold/Silver did. I went crazy trying to play that game when it came out.

Fave game, I only played the firsts =/, so I'll say Yellow because I used to watch the cartoon when it came out.

Favorite Pokemon was Pidgeotto. Used that MFer from start to finish.

Favorite game would have to be the original Blue. Man... they totally whored it out after that, but those original 151 were the bomb.

I'm with Shin Oni...I loved Scyther in a most unhealthy way. To make it worse I only had the blue version and no friends with pokemon so I had to wait until silver to get him.

Fave game: silver

Pikachu is the only character I can compete with in Brawl (and by “compete”, I mean, “still die a lot”) — so, yeah, it.

Favorite game? Blue. I NOT-downloaded that game so many years back, and it was great. Also, I picked Blue over Red because blue is my favorite color.

I guess my favorite would be Mewtwo, because he didnt speak by saying his name and he we pretty hardcore looking. he has a fleshed out backstory and he was my favorite character in Melee (fuck the mewtwo haters!)
runners up include Kabutops,Hitmonlee and Lucario. because karate dogs are awesome *insert Hong Kong Phooey reference here*

favorite game? Silver, runs rings around D&P.

Asking me to pick my favorite Pokemon is like picking a favorite child for me. The original was around the time I got serious about games and programed in my brain to love RPGs and at one point in life I could recite all of the Pokemon. By far my favorite game is Pearl because you can put every Pokemon into that game (and I tried to) but the Pokemon that is my favorite has to be the only Pokemon I got over 90 (I wish I can give you a list of my favorites but you ask for one)

My favorite is, Salmance.

Pokemon Red is my all time favorite though I haven't played any of the DS games. I'm going to probably hit one those up after my next paycheck. Talk about great timing for this debate!

It's too damn difficult to pick a favorite Pokemon, I just can't do it. Squirtle, Pikachu, Sandshrew/Slash, Dragonite, all the legendary Pokemon...to many greats to name.

My favorite game would probably be Gold though, followed by Blue.

Squirtle/Silver

I liked silver, because like Fronz said, it was everything I wanted it to be, +100 some odd new pokemon! The newer ones just seemed to get more and more absurd.

Also, Mewtwo.

I think mewtwo is a pretty cool guy, eh beats everyone and doesnt afraid of anything.

I like pokemon silver the most. Lugia is my second favourite pokeman, and gold and silver were back from a time when they still put effort into making new pokemon... for most of them, at least... stupid baby pokemon. Also they're the largest of them all, meaning the game doesnt end so soon.

God this is hard.
I have loved different Pokemons depending on what they brought to me at their time. I´ve loved my water startsrs : Squirtle, Totodile and Mudkip, and Sneasel and Wobufett when i used to card battle.
But since I have to choose one i´ll have to choose Squirtle 8love for the first pokemon you ever have).

And my favorite Pokemon game has to be the Silver game. Gold and silver are for me the best Pokemon games. The implementation of nioght/day, the phone, the ability to go back to Jhoto and fight Red, blue, Misty, Brock was to awesome to be on the Gameboy Color.
