In the last debate, we shared similar nightmare stories about the hardest games we've ever played. Hundreds of votes were cast for over a hundred different horror stories, but in the end only two games stood out from each category. Below are the top results from each group:
- Hardest Game Ever?:
- Battletoads > I Wanna Be The Guy
- Easiest Game Ever?:
- Yoshi's Story 64 > You Have to Burn the Rope
For this week's debate, since Metal Gear Solid 4's release date is right around the corner, I'd like to take a look back at all the other games in its series. Whenever I hear friends talking about each MGS game, it's always hard to tell which is their favorite and least favorite. While that might be the sign of a good game series, that doesn't mean we can't weigh the pros and cons and still debate the topic.
What's your favorite Metal Gear game so far, and why? Give it some serious thought, cast your votes and reasons, get some friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.
Bonus Question: What's your least favorite Metal Gear game? Why?

And every damn time a Metal Gear Solid game came out, the other side of the street would always beat the thing in one friggin night, so I never had a chance to play or even watch MGS2 or earlier ones. By the time MGS3 came out I just said screw it, I'll wait and start the series from the beginning some day in the future when I'm bored.
So no votes from me this week :(
get that twin snakes shit out of there it's like a bad John Woo film.
Least favorite? I dunno. I would say MGS2 just cause the story was well...bleh. Plus no snake action and overall felt like MGS rehashed with a new whiny character...with a hot girlfriend.
My least favorite is AC!D but that shouldn't even count
2 sons of liberty no CQC means i die every 5 seconds .
Least favorite = AC!D
Still tied between MGS3 or AC!D2
The worst is AC!D
Least favorite: Snake's Revenge
AC!D was the worst, if only because it stopped working after I updated the firmware on my PSP.
But out of the ones I have played, I would have to definately say the original.
Twin Snakes would have been at the top if it wasn't for its' general silliness. But then again, I probably would have been disappointed if it was exactly the same as the original presentation wise, so it's kind of a lose lose situation, eh?
Metal Gear Solid 2 is the worst because I don't like it as much as 3 and PO.
Overall I would have to say that Metal Gear Solid is probably the best; it just feels like the defining Metal Gear experience even to this day for me. But, if we're talking about enjoyment I would have to go with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, by a hair.
That game was just so wonderfully camp and bondish, and had what I feel is the single greatest boss fight ever (The End). Not only that, but as has been mentioned more than once on the Podtoid, MGS3 managed to do a flawless job of humanizing Big Boss, which was totally unexpected. Oh, and the ladder sequence is the stuff of legend. I f**king love the Snake Eater theme (I'm one of the few, I know). Subsistence wins over Snake Eater for obvious reasons.
As for my least favorite, I would have to say Twin Snakes, no contest. Like I said, MGS is the defining game in the series and Twin Snakes just took that and really cheapened it in my eyes. It made everything over the top, but not in a camp way like MGS3, but in a "Hey, look how cool I am" way. Regardless of how the gameplay may be improved (and frankly, I cannot stand the Gamecube controls for this game) over the original, I have never made it past Revolver Ocelot simply because I can't stomach how badly it rapes one of the seminal achievements in gaming.
Least fave? Snake's Revenge - Because frankly it should never have been made.
could never get into mgs2
Then very closely, MGS/Twin Snakes = The original, AWESOME story.
My least favorite would honestly have to be the origional MG1 or 2. I didn't get very far when playing because I lost interest, yet it's still my fav game series to date.
The story was so fucking amazing, and as much as everyone feels like "Raiden" was an emo bitch, I felt that they developed his character really well in the game. I mean hell, the kid grew up on the battlefield doing brown-brown! He's a hell of a character, he's dealt with a ton of shit (including the mind fuck that was his mission) and people never gave him the chance he deserved. Hopefully, MGS4 changes people's opinions of Raiden.
tough call.
I guess MGS1 since I have fonder memories of playing it, and there is a lot more Cam Clarke
2 and 3 just didn't feel as amazing as MGS did back in the day.
Least favorite...mgs2 by default since these are the only that i've played
Least: Metal Gear Snakes Revenge. I remember playing when I was younger, and damn it was hard! I could only play it with game genie, thats the only way I could get far.
Although it was hard to choose between 2 and 3, I'd have to say 2, Sons of Liberty, was the best. Simply because I favor the indoor environment, and various other things I liked more (also the screwed up codecs at the end were awesome).
Least favorite would be AC!D. Now before you say "hey wait, he didn't play that one," understand that I never played it because I did a lot of research into it since I really wanted it, but the more footage I saw of it the less I liked it.
Least Favorite: This would have to be Metal Gear Solid. It's still an awesome game, but it's definitely my least favorite. I would feel bad naming any of the earlier Metal Gear titles because I would be holding them to different standards based on how old they are.
I felt MGS2 really killed a lot of the original feel with the Metal Gear series up to that point. I enjoyed it, but felt they were really stretching a little too much for no real reason.
MGS3 is my second favorite, as it really is a great way of telling the rich story behind Big Boss. It went in to detail events we could only have imagined previously. They did a very good job of expressing the concepts involving the formation of the idea for Outer Heaven and its meaning throughout the series. While as far fetched as the rest of the series in terms of realism it was much more believable than some of the stuff that went on in MGS2 , by far.
If anyone has played through the true sequel to the first on the MSX system you'll know what I mean when I say that it deserves some huge props for its time as its basically Metal Gear Solid without 3D. I encourage any fan of the series to look in to getting a MSX emulator and playing the translated version if you haven't. I almost feel like its a prequel to MGS in a lot of respects.
MGS3 is lovely, but the gameplay is 110% shit.
MGS 3: Snake Eater,is by far my favorite.
least favorite would have to be AC!D, just couldn't get into it i will have to try it again.
Least Favorite: Metal Gear. I dunno, I've always felt it pales in comparison with any other Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid game, and not just in the graphics department. It might be because I didn't get to play it until I got MGS3: Subsistence and therefore never appreciated it when it was new and innovative.
Least Favorite- Metal Gear Solid 3- The only reason it's my least favorite is because it took me 2 weeks to pass the first prelude mission of MGS3. The entire time I was trying to be sneaky, but the way the camera worked, it was impossible, and I eventually decided to shoot more than I had to. Thought it was great by the end of the game though.
An honorable mention goes to Ac!d. It's an actually cool game that's more like a turn based strategy like Advance Wars than Magic the Gathering.
I have to give my vote to MGS1. I just have so many memories from that game.
The worst has to be AC!D. It was an interesting concept that just didn't flow for me. It was still a neat little adventure.
It's actually not just my favorite Metal Gear game, but it's my favorite game of all time, period.
As for least favorite? Acid 2, if that counts. Acid 1 was bad enough as it is, but the god awful art style in 2 made it feel even LESS like Metal Gear.
It is by far the one I have played the most in the entire series. MGS1: 10 times, MGS2: 25 times, MGS3: 6 times.
Its story, at first, seemed bizarre in nature but you had to play it again to get more of a feel for it. The story's "main" theme of passing on information always enticed me as the characters fought for this dilemma.
Solidus's final speech has to be my top moment of the game. His true intentions not to achieve power but to leave behind a legacy was like a monologue from a Shakespeare play.
It was only followed up by the by Snake's final address to the "player". When Snake told "me" to not fret over words instead try to the find the meaning behind, I tried and I keep trying with each play-through.
The Least Favorite: Acid.
I am not good with playing with card decks nor making them.
