Game Debate to the Death!<br/>Favorite Mario Kart track? photo

In the last debate, we finished our discussion of the Halo series' best multiplayer maps. When asked which Halo 3 level was your favorite, it became clear that most of you actually weren't big fans of the game, compared to the other two Halo games. The one thing that didn't seem to need much debating was that most of the multiplayer maps were disappointing. However, a few levels did receive a lot of votes, and there was a heated battle for first place between four different maps, with only a few votes separating all four. Here are the top results listed in ranking from first to fourth:
  • Favorite Halo 3 Multiplayer Level: Valhalla > High Ground > Pit > Guardian

For this week, we're using F Whipple's suggestion from last week, and continuing the multiplayer theme one more time by debating the entire Mario Kart racing series. With half a dozen different games of tracks to contemplate (here are a few tracks as a refresher), make sure you give it some serious consideration before casting your vote. If you don't remember the name of the track you liked the most, just describe it in the comments and hopefully other readers can help you figure out which one it is.

So, which Mario Kart track is your favorite, and why? Give it some serious thought, cast your vote and reasons, get some Mario Kart friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: Who was your favorite character to play as? Which item or power-up was your favorite to use? (Blue shell doesn't count!)

Yoshi's Valley N64, for the aforementioned reasons.

Toad - "I'm the best!" never got tired of mimicking that at the end of a race.

Lightning bolt. Cruel, but oh so effective.

First track in the SNES game, favourite character is Peach, because I like to look at her ass while she rides a motorbike on the Wii version, and my favourite weapon is the mushroom, because it gets you the shortcuts.

Also: Bonus Question made up by me.

Favourite mutliplayer track: Block Fort. Favourite multiplayer weapon: Mushroom, because if you ram someone with the boost you can steal their balloon.

Character: Wario

Item: Red shells, woot. Ownage.

Such a tough choice, there are so many good tracks!
gonna have to say the dirt track in the 64 one (I think it was Wario Stadium or something), I like playing as Toad, and my favorite item is the blooper thing from the DS game (I don't recall it being in any of the other ones).

I loved Banshee Boardwalk (Mario Kart DS). Not too many obstacles, just a race over a mildly dangerous track.

Also, Wario + red shells FTW.

Are we allowed Wii courses? Because Mushroom Gorge is a fuckton of fun. Out of the retro courses: Wario Stadium.

Luigi is my usual choice for driver, but Rosalina in MKW is proving to be pretty nifty. Favourite power-up: golden mushroom turbo.

Rainbow Road, specifically the GBA version. If only because it has the single most epic secret jump path ever. Hit one of the bumpers on the second turn just right with a mushroom, and you can skip almost 1/3 of the entire track. God that jump was exhilirating to make.

My favorite character in the series is Waluigi because he makes me think of Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races, and that's awesome.

Weapon? Bullet Bill probably.

My favorite track would have to be Yoshi Circuit. I can't remember a loss on that one :P

my favorite item is the row of bananas, that thing was the best, I was always in the lead, I never got lightnings or starmen, I just got to fuck people up from ahead. and you got 5 of them! (later nerfed to like 3)

I've been peach in every installment. She's my person in everything she's in. Just like my cousin who uses Yoshi in everything, whether they suck or not.

Bowser's Castle. Any of them on the SNES version.

My favorite character was Toad (closely followed by Peach), and favorite item was probably a red shell. It was just a great feeling to get one right when you need one to knock out the first place guy.

I'm loving the new Rainbow Road. My favourite character to play as is currently me (or Mii even), or failing that, Funky Kong.

Favourite (all-time) power up is three red shells, followed closely by the Golden 'Shroom, which is always good for snatching 1st place from 7th or 8th.

The best new power-up is Bullet Bill, and I love the Thundercloud too.

gotta go with a tie between Koopa Beach from SNES and Rainbow Road from N64.
fav character would be Wario until DS, then it becomes Dry Bones.
fav item is a tie between triple red shells and the fake item box.

My favorite track is Mario Circuit 2 from Super Mario Kart (SNES), my brothers and me like that track because of the enormous jumps which anyone can do with a Mushroom at the zipper and ramps section, right before the goal line.

My favorite characters are Toad/Koopa Troopa (Super Mario Kart, SNES) and Toad/Dry Bones (Mario Kart DS).

My favorite items are Red Shells on both Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart DS

Double Dash's Rainbow Road is my favourite track. An excellent track overlooked because of the karts racing on it.

Favourite character is Luigi, though with the Wii version I have been occasionally using Daisy and Rosalina along with my Mii.

Favourite weapon is by far and away the Bullet Bill.

The SNES Rainbow Road. A true test of driving skills. (no rails means falling off the track like that.)

Also: Bowswer & Golden Mushroom. Fat boy w/ nitro boost equals instant juggernaut.

Koopa Troopa is my go-to character (along with Koopa ParaTroopa on DD). The fact that he is not in some games is ridiculous (I use Yoshi or Dry Bones in those games). I'd say triple red shells are my favorite. But I have become pretty deadly accurate with green shells and there is a certain level of accomplishment to nailing your friend with a green shell. And the course question is a tough one, but I'd go with DoubleDash's Rainbow Road.

Dude, I don't even know how this is an issue!

Super Mario Kart (and sorry, this still really is the only solid MK game)

"Rainbow Road"

Just total pwnage. I've tried all the other MK games. They're are too slow and shitty. Though Mario Kart Super Circuit for GBA comes in as a close second (it also helps that you can unlock Super Mario Kart in this game - two for one!).

Oh, and the absence of Koopa Troopa - what the mess?

Nintendo! Lay off the crack pipe!

And for battle the one that has four blocks of different colours each, is on the N64 and the Mario Kart DS. Thats probably the best battle course ever.

Ok, I've had plenty of time to consider this, and I'm going with DK Mountain as my favorite for varied gameplay within a single balanced track. Not that it's going to change the outcome of the votes this week though :) And I already said Baby Luigi/Baby Mario plus double the Chain Chomp fun were my other favs.
