Game Debate to the Death!<br/>Favorite Mario Kart track? photo
In the last debate, we finished our discussion of the Halo series' best multiplayer maps. When asked which Halo 3 level was your favorite, it became clear that most of you actually weren't big fans of the game, compared to the other two Halo games. The one thing that didn't seem to need much debating was that most of the multiplayer maps were disappointing. However, a few levels did receive a lot of votes, and there was a heated battle for first place between four different maps, with only a few votes separating all four. Here are the top results listed in ranking from first to fourth:
  • Favorite Halo 3 Multiplayer Level: Valhalla > High Ground > Pit > Guardian

For this week, we're using F Whipple's suggestion from last week, and continuing the multiplayer theme one more time by debating the entire Mario Kart racing series. With half a dozen different games of tracks to contemplate (here are a few tracks as a refresher), make sure you give it some serious consideration before casting your vote. If you don't remember the name of the track you liked the most, just describe it in the comments and hopefully other readers can help you figure out which one it is.

So, which Mario Kart track is your favorite, and why? Give it some serious thought, cast your vote and reasons, get some Mario Kart friends to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: Who was your favorite character to play as? Which item or power-up was your favorite to use? (Blue shell doesn't count!)

Dude. The SNES Mario Kart was the best... and the 150cc Ghost Track was the shit.

N64 beach level.
Bonus: Mario (idk why i always choose the balanced characters), and the Star of course.

SNES Mario Kart is where the fun is going to stay. I personally love all the Koopa Beaches. if it was only for the music (cause those tracks were rather short.) Rainbow Road is a close 2nd (but I think the music to RR takes first.)

and I rocked Koopa Troopa before they took him out...then I just switched to Wario. (in other words, put me down for the Koop Troop.)

oh wow forgot the favorite weapon.

Lighting. nothing better than flattening the competition. (then for some stupid reason they took out the flat animation to just bumping the karts out the way.)

DK Mountain from Double Dash. You start off trudging your way uphill. Then a canon shoots you a few thousand miles away. You then barrel down a fucking mountain while dodging boulders and making like-or-death hairpin turns. Jesus Christ was that a fantastic racing level, period.

Bonus: Yoshi. Everyone fights over him, and for good reason. He's badass. Favorite weapon would have to be Bullet Bill because the appeal of autopilot mixed with Super Star is just too appealing.

Poopface Morty and I were just talking about this. My favorite track is Wario Stadium from Mario Kart 64. Favorite character (coincidentally) is Wario, though I can't use him in Mario Kart DS.

Favorite item has to be the lightning bolt. If you use it at the right time, you can completely screw somebody over.

Well, Mario Kart 64 is my favorite in the series, and though my choice isn’t likely to be a popular one, I’m going to have to go with...

Royal Raceway

I always owned on that track. Koopa Troopa Beach is a close second, though, and that’s followed by Kalamari Desert.

As for the bonus question, I have to go with Princess Peach (she was fast) and the three red shells, respectively.

Ah, the one in N64 Kart where you can visit the castle. I don't know why I found that so amazing as a young'n - but I did.

I was also rather impressed with the DK Jungle track in Double Dash. I think it is making a return on the Wii version, which excites me.

I bought an N64 when it came out purely for Mario Kart and it completely sucked compared to the snes version.

I was truly gutted.

Anyway I was never in it for any of the race tracks, the fighting arenas was where the fun was at.

Total addiction 'slightly' stoned night after night throwing shells chasing each other around simple mazes whilst listening to 2pac.

Oh the memories.

Yes!! My debate suggestion was used.

Anywhoo this is a tough decision but I'm going to have to go with Yoshi's mountain from 64. I loved the different paths and had it down to a science. I was nigh unstopable on that course.

Royal Raceway on the N64. It was fantastic, what with the jumps, wide turns, and the optional road to nowhere that just looped over to the castle.

Bonus: Favorite character-Baby Luigi. His little comments are the best! Especially when his car comes in second. "Baby Wee-gee number...not one!"
Favorite weapon: Triple red shell. It's the ultimate 'I hate you' weapon. Especially on N64, when you could fire all three, and the last two would just sit under the person you fired at, just WAITING for them to come down. Haha...what a great game.

I like all the rainbow roads, they are the hardest and therefore most fun to play in multiplayer. My favorite rainbow road is the Double Dash version, I've mastered the boosts on that track and I always own people.

My favorite character is Mario because I play as him in every game, I'm a sucker like that. My favorite item is the red shell, cause come on, who doesn't love the red shell?

Oops, I forgot to add you name in the post F Whipple, just updated it. I'm gonna have to give this debate some more thought before casting my vote, but for the bonus question I definitely loved Baby Mario and Bay Luigi for a double dose of chain chomp in Double Dash.

I never understood what people saw in Wario Stadium. The motocross track was really long, and there was nothing really cool or unique about it. It was all the same, for the entirety of the lap. Plus, there was that exploit where you could jump over the wall to the left at the start of the race and just win ridiculously easily. My friends and I never played that track in multiplayer, because we’d all just be sitting there trying to hop over the wall.

My favorite track would have to be Waluigi Stadium off of Double Dash. There was something about the rythm of that track. And for some reason we always had interesting races to the bitter end on that track. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing track, but it was designed very well in my opinion.

Bonus:
On Double Dash (My Fave Kart Game) my favorite character was Koopa Troopa and my favorite weapon was the triple green shells.

I've always really enjoyed Koopa Beach from the SNES game and all the highway levels, but Wario Stadium from 64 is probably my favorite. I just remember being amazed the first time I played it.

Bonus: If Koopa Troopa is a playable character, that's me. In 64, I use Toad, and in DS I use Dry Bones.

As for a favorite item.. I would have to go with the Fake Item Box. It may be dirty, foul play to place them on top of real Item Boxes, but damn it, I love it.

I'm surprised nobody has chosen my favorite track yet.

By Faaaaar: YOSHI VALLEY!!!! Nothing like treacherous shortcuts and chaotic main paths littered with obstacles to stimulate the backstabbing. Muwahahahahaha.

Toad is my favorite because he has the best crash-scream. C'mon, you know you agree...

And favorite power up is the the Banana Bunch because with great placement selection it's definitely one of the more eeeeeeeevill weapons in the game.

@Samit: I dunno, as silly as it may sound, I think I just like all the hopping around. It reminds me of the fun little bumps on the SNES tracks, only.. IN 3D! But I can see why you feel that way. It's nothing too special when compared to some of the other tracks, but it's the one I've played the most, by far..

Character: Depends on the game, but I'll pick Toadette and Diddy Kong combo from Double Dash....Mushroom to the front of the line and HUGE BANANAS!

Weapon: prbly the Super mushroom....just love going fast!

The Bowser Castle track from the original I guess, though it was a real tough call.

Character would be Toad. I'd usually be him, while my friend was always Koopa Trooper back in the day.

Item has to be the red shells. That's the easiest call for me out of these three questions, red shells rock...

How long does this debate last? Because I want to wait until this weekend, after I've played Mario Kart Wii, before I decide what my favorite track is.

As for character, it's changed in every game. In SMK I used Koopa Troopa. In MK64 I used Mario. In Double Dash I used Koopa/Diddy. In MKDS I use Peach.

The best item is the red shell.

Wario Stadium on the 64, it had an awesome vibe to it. Character is Bowser, cause he's big and mean. And the item is the thunder, because if you use correctly, it gives you a great advantage.

Mario Circuit 2 on Super Mario Kart for the SNES.

The jump over the figure-8 intersection made for interesting times. Trap it with banana peels or fire a shell off of it for extra hazard to those following you. Catch an opponent with a red shell right as they went over, and you could set them back a half lap. In match race tournaments with my father and my brothers, wrecking out over the jump was almost always a game decider.

(Bonus Answer: Donkey Kong could smash Toad and Princess off the track. Top choice.)

Me and my cousin almost always played battle. My favorite battle map was the beach level in Super Mario Kart. If you got the feather and timed your jump properly, you could easily jump into one of the small pools on the map, effectively protecting yourself from any attack. The only way you'd be hit is if the other person got the feather and jumped in, then proceeded to knock you out. Ahh... the good ol' days. My favorite character was always Toad.

Anyway, favorite level is probably Wario's Stadium for the 64.
Character Waluigi for DD.
Item- dragging the 5 bananas behind you, and slowing down just a bit so the guy tailing you hit them and spins out.

Yoshi's Valley on Mariokart 64 was the best cause you had no idea what place you were in, which meant I would always beat my friends cause I was a master at that track. I also liked using Bowser cause it seemed like he was the fastest overall. My favorite item was the three red shells cause it pretty much means you can get 3 places ahead of where you are.
