Game Debate to the Death!<br>Favorite GTA game? photo

In the last debate, in anticipation of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4, we argued over which of the previous Metal Gear games have been the least and most enjoyable in the series so far. Over a hundred votes were cast for a variety of different console titles from the past, but no single game was a landslide winner or loser in either category. Below are the top results from each group:

  • Favorite Metal Gear game:
  • 1st: Metal Gear Solid (34 votes) -- Winner!
  • 2nd: Metal Gear Solid 3 (33 votes) -- Almost!
  • 3rd: Metal Gear Solid 2 (20 votes)
  • Worst Metal Gear game:
  • 1st: Metal Gear Acid (11 votes) -- Loser!
  • 2nd: Metal gear Solid 2 (10 votes)

Looks like Metal Gear Solid 2 pleased and displeased a fair amount of its players. For this week, since we've all had a while with Grand Theft Auto 4 by now, I think it's time to finally revisit this series for a debate. What's your favorite GTA game so far, and why? What made that one better than the rest for you? Give it some serious thought, cast your votes and reasons, get some other simulation murderers to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Question: What's your least favorite Grand Theft Auto game so far? Why?

My favorite GTA is of course the new one. Despite missing some of the cooler features of the earlier games, and lacking some of the fun SA had because of its super unrealisticness, it's still purely amazing.

Least favorite is GTA3. I didn't find that game appealing whatsoever, it just sucks pure ass.

The best would have to be San Andreas. It was just the most fun. It lacked a lot of realism, sure, but it's a video game. There was just so many fun things to do because it was jam packed with almost anything gamers asked for. Jets, parachutes, bulldozers, bicycles, hilarious characters, lots of recognizable celeb voices, katanas, dildos, etc. etc.

Not to mention the totally epic soundtrack.

Best: GTAIV. I haven't played it, but I watched my friend play for an hour, and it looks like a huge fucking improvement from III.

Worst: San Andreas. Sucked.

Best is GTA4, no contest.

Worst is Liberty City stories on PS2, because aiming and everything is a god damn nightmare.

For me, GTA IV hands down.

Characterizations, controls, visuals, game play mechanics.
Any issues I had with the previous incarnations of the series were gone in this one.

Favorite? GTA III probably. I had way too much fun with GTA III compared to all the others. Sure IV is recent and updated, but I can play GTA III constantly without having to stop and get bored. I just go around in a tank blowing shit up for no reason.

Least favorite? Vice City. That game just didn't get me into GTA much. Outside the return of the motercycles, I didn't care for it. San Andreas thankfully made me feel better.

Best: Grand Theft Auto IV, by far. It’s just unbelievably good. The only thing I really don’t like about it is the soundtrack, because I loved it so much in the prior three 3D GTA games.

Worst: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I never played any of the 2D GTA games, but GTA III was revolutionary, and GTA: Vice City upped the ante with a pitch-perfect 80s vibe. San Andreas was just too massive, and I didn’t like CJ as a protagonist.

Best: GTA IV, just for the fact that you can play with friends. Win!
Worst: GTA 2, was pretty much GTA 1 with moar lighting effects.

It may be a little premature, but I'd definitely have to go with IV. Everything about it screams amazing. The world, the characters, the acting and animation, the goddamn PHYSICS, and the entire atmosphere created in this world. It's unreal. San Andreas comes in at a close second, though.

Least favorite? The original GTA. 2 improved on a lot, but the first one was just so awful, even compared to 2.

Best: Vice City. Haven't played GTA4 so I can't judge it.
Worst: GTA3. The design of Liberty City was just godawful.

Best so far? GTA IV, wich will probably be the winner.
Least fav? San Andreas, because I really didn't like the feel of the game and really coulnd't like C.J.

Best - GTA IV. Plays better, looks better, has some of the best characters in any game ever. Also, its freakin huge! I can just about believe it actually is a city, just without the suburban areas that surround most cities. I can never shake the feeling that im playing in a large town in the other games, despite the skyscrapers.

Worst - The psp games. They werent bad as such, they just didnt have the spark. They felt like id played them before only it was waaaay better the first time.

Best - GTA 4. Story was fantastic this time around, earlier games in the series found me veering off the main story to mess around, but this one had my utmost attention until the end. Great game from start to finish, and the multiplayer was icing on the cake.

Worst - GTA 2. Hated the futuristic setting and the gang allegiance mechanic. This is the one I spent the least amount of time with.

GTA IV has been my favorite game in the series by far.

I didn't think the original GTA and GTA 2 were very good games.

Best - GTA4. From the few hours I've played around with it I was completely entertained. I love Niko. The storyline seems great. It's damn fun to play. Sure, there are a few things I think is a little lame, but they are easy to pass off.

Worst - San Andreas. That game sucked. It's really just as simple as that.

Best: Vice City - friggin love the entire setting. they nailed it and that's all that matters in a game like this.

Worst: SA - too big with too little to accomplish
note:have not played gta4...soon as it comes out on the PC I'll give you an update.(or wii...hehe, nvm)

Best - GTA4, it has the best characters I've seen in a game in a long time and you're in a living city.

Worst - Vice city only because i palyed it the least.

4 is pretty cool though.......

Vice City for my favorite GTA game. I could cruise around on a bike or in a fast car all day listening to 80s music. And running people over. That's what the 80s is about, right?

GTAIV. The rest of the GTAs are simply unplayable now. I find it weird going back, trying to play Vice City Stories, a close second to IV, and finding it unbearable to play.

Worst, I say GTA Advance. They somehow made the decent 2D ones horrible.

Best GTA: GTA4 with its insane graphics, great multiplayer, and very fun missions. Runner-up: GTA VIce City: insane soundtrack, awesome property missions, beautifully made.

Worst GTA: Liberty City Stories for its horrendous graphics and god awful voice acting, storyline, and soundtrack. San Andreas, worst graphics of the 3, everything looks ugly, but awesome mission variety.

best GTA would be GTA 4 followed closely by vice city stories.

worst would be GTA liberty city stories on the psp because the controls were horrible even on the psp, the lock on was buggy, and no real character development almost as bad as Claude in GTA 3 but less interesting.

Best, definitely GTA4, although the map is very dreary and brown except for times square and ellis island. Vice city is the best setting, I can't wait to see the next GTA set in that area.

The PS2 port of LCS was horrible, the graphics were painful as hell to watch, and they didn't bother to program the additional analog stick back in.

Worst: Kinda a tough decision between Vice City and San Andreas (as much as I love the gameplay and soundtrack, I can never truly love a game that uses an "urban" theme.)

Best: The few hours I've played of 4. Simply amazing the amount of detail the game has. After that Vice City for the awesome soundtrack and 80's setting.

Worst: Probably 2. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first one for some reason.

The best is without a doubt, San Andreas. Why? Because of the '90s West Coast gangsta shit vibe that was oozing out of the box and within every pixel of the game.

There is no worst vote for me.

BEST: GTAIV, it was a close call between this and GTA3 which really surprised me given i was already a huge fan of GTA2 and never expected it to work in 3d. But GtaIV wins for giving me multiple wow moments, both for the graphics (swimming to happiness island as the dawning sun shines over the city), the gameplay (spoilers.. but when someone gets shot i wasn't expecting) and music (Dj premier!!).

Worst: Vice City - I lived through the 80's but for some reason i could not feel any connection to this game whatsoever. I guess it was just the story really.

Best: San Andreas. Incredible story, excellent control, and solid graphics.

Worst: GTA III. Control was pretty crappy, the guy couldn't swim, and I never really liked the "silent antagonist" bit.

FWIW, I couldn't pick IV for the best because it simply lacked depth of both story and gameplay. The graphics were really good, but that wasn't enough to carry the game. I miss ambulance and firetruck missions. The vigilante missions were pretty weak too.

I forgot to mention...

I totaly thought the 3D switch would not work and was cussing the idea.

I thought they should keep it 2D and make up a new game for the 3D switch to test.

Boy was I wrong and glad they did.

Best = GTA4...it had the best story so far, despite being slow and very disperesed, but the world feels more alive than ever and theres still plenty of shit to do, and thats just in the single player. I've never had so much fun just fucking around in freemode with some folks from my friends list (woah say that 5 times fast). I'm still playing it, just trying to get 100% and get all the achievements...it will probably never happen, but its great to just hop in and get sidetracked, then wreak havoc for about an hour, or find all the stunt jumps, or get in a helicopter then fly to the highest point and jump off. Man, what a damn good value this game is.

Worst = Liberty City Stories...some reason it just felt cheaper and a giant step back from what I had been playing at the time(SA). I also had a problem with how the black and red seemed to blur so much on my PSP...it made me fucking sick sometimes. I ended up just giving it away to my girlfriend's little brother. I'm sure he had a hell of a time with it, but it just wasn't good enough for me.
