Last week's debate might as well have been about Lemmings, because while I might have taken the next chronological step in the two part Paper Mario debate series, it doesn't change the fact that it was a step right off a cliff into the game debate landslide hall of fame. There have been far more brutal beatings in the past, but that doesn't make the results any less painful:
- Super Mario RPG (69 votes)
- Paper Mario 64 (7 votes)
If there's one thing to be learned, it's that you don't mess with Super Mario RPG. Although, as many of you requested, I do plan on bringing the champ back into the ring in a few weeks for an equally Kimbo Slice sized opponent, but first up is a debate I've been meaning to start for a while now. I think this topic has a lot of open discussion potential, so feel free to chime in several times with strategy suggestions and questions.
Which character in the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients do you like the most, and why? Is is that character's skills that make it most enjoyable? Or maybe it's the way it meshes with a certain item build? Narrowing it down to just one vote will probably be hard, so give it some serious thought, cast your votes, get some BattleNet buddies to share their opinions as well, and check back next week for the winner.

Bonus Questions: What items do you buy for your favorite character? Also, what match settings (-arem, -apem, etc) do you play the most?
Also -- you guys still have one unsolved Mind Teasers from yesterday :)
in before shitstorm
Best Tank - Centaur Warchief
Best Int - Furion
Favorite gametype was -AREM, just because it negated somewhat those who played the imba characters (circa 6.23 version) and em made the games only last about 15-30 minutes rather than an hour.
Character i liked Viper the Netherdrake. Throw a Linkens and a Sasha/Yasha on him, and it was rape late game.
I'm gonna go with Rexxar/Beastmaster. He throws axes, which is awesome.
i always assumed BattleNet would be a great haven for mature pc gamers. wrong! hearing "leaver detected" 5 times in a row is such an annoying, yet often, occurrence.
my favorite tho is still the guy who always has to All-speak and explain himself every time he dies. not his fault. ever.
With most melee characters I get Battle Fury 'cause cleave is always awesome. And with range characters I like getting Mjollnir, beacause chain lightning is almost like a range cleave.
i used to always buy the butterfly for drow but now that she has her new ult i always buy a crit stick(aka Buriza) Monkey King Bar isnt bad either.
-arem is my favorite but not enough people play it anyone more. at least on East coast.
oh, uh...
huh?
You'll soon come to realize that DotA is actually the worst game/mod ever made/released, but has the ultimate formula of addiction to keep you coming back. Also, try to learn the DotA culture as soon as possible, in order to save your sanity.
I would suggest you try playing -sdem games, so you can choose if you want an agil, str, or intel based hero. I STRONGLY recommend you DO NOT play any -apem yet, as you get a lot of people who abuse certain things with certain heroes and if you're not too familiar with the game yet, you'll get a textual lashing.
I can't vote, I've never touched the game.
also, i never said i wasnt gonna do your debate. you suggested that big triple threat debate and also just sly vs some other game, i said no to mini sly debate since i dont think many ppl played sly, but i liked the triple threat better, it's on the to do list.
I love Krorebus for int.
And Spiritbreaker for strength.
In terms of most broken character, I'd go with luna moonfang. Her ult destroys everything if you're crafty enough to get someone alone, and with the right items late game, you can solo the entire enemy team with absolutely no effort.
First character I used. Still my favorite character.
Treads
Vlads or vanguard (bkb or linkins if they have disables)
Butterfly
Bashers if the game is still going
and -arem. It's really the only way to get a good game. Sure, you'll sometime just get a bunch of crap heroes and go up against an all star team, but more often than not it makes for a better game.
Also Sly Cooper, no contest.
So my completely ill-informed favourite (so far) would have to be Razor.
Since I don't own any current-gen console or high-end gaming pc, this is where I derive most of my entertainment. Also, MMO's and all manner of RPG's for my aging PS2.
Since I suck at micromanagement, DotA gave me some sort of reprieve. Best Hero (I don't call them characters) so far IMO would be Clockwerk, the new, almost IMBA hero of 6.53.
Diomeneus, Razor is a very good entry-point hero.
Mostly played game type: ap. Just ap.
Luckily I only play at LAN Cafe's (DotA and MMO's are BIG here in the Philippines). Usually, you'll hear trash-talking and expletives for one hour (or more, depending on how long the game drags).
The first item I make is the Flying Courier. Then I buy an Empty Bottle. This ensures that I don't run out of HP/MP without having to resort to regenerative items. And that's the extent of my micromanagement skills (Getting the courier from your position to the founatain and back, storing power-ups in the Bottle, and retrieving items from it)
For Melee, I usually get Battlefury for the cleave. Cleave = more enemies killed = more money. Also, multiple cleaves stack (multiple battlefuries' cleave attack stacks with passive cleaving skills)
For ranged (be it agi or int) I create items depending on who I am facing in the early game and adjust accordingly as the game plays out. To be on the safe side, I use Lothar's Edge for the added damage and Windwalk (for agi).
If you're new to the game, I suggest you use heroes that don't use too many skills (like Rogueknight, who only uses the occasional StormBolt), just to get a feel of the game.
BTW, I've been playing since 6.08.
getting 5 void stones + boots of travel = gg
can you pleeeease do a triple PS2 platformer heroes game debate next week?!? :D :D :D (i.e. ratchet/jak/sly)?? or do a daxter/clank/other-recognizable-sidekick one?
I couldn't have said that any better.
Since I think you guys have more gaming experience than me, may I ask where those streak kill chants came from (killing spree, dominating and the like)?
@Fronz
Why are the only match settings listed easy mode...
My group usually plays either -aremom or plain -ar/-ap, depending on how many people we have. -ar/-ap only enter play when we have at least 4 a side, which is unfortunately not very often.
As for my favorite hero.. i'm still not positive, but i might go with dazzle. im not even that great with him, but he's so much fun. you can heal yourself a lot early on so you can stay in a lane much longer to level up without running out of tangoes and going back to base, and for carrying your team his 2nd spell and ultimate spell (which got switched in the most recent updates) are pretty kickass, not to mention his first spell's slowdown isnt bad at all for kill assists.
i just really love the idea of a ranged hero who can heal himself and even teammates. plus, it's great getting a gunisoo (sheep stick) item on him, which is such a great recipe to get -- void stone first so you can heal like a motherfucker the rest of the game since mana regens so fast, and then ultimate orb for a huge stat boost to help you from being so weak, and then mystic staff completes spell to let you turn enemies into a sheep for 3.5 seconds (aka easy kill).
i also really like (which doesnt necessarily mean im any good with tho) pit lord, razor, slithice, vengeful spirit, zeus(my old favorite), phantom lancer (before new updates), nerubian assassin, and alchemist to name a few, but i've just been on a dazzle kick lately so my vote is for him. there's still so many heroes i havent played yet.
1. Magnataur - equip him with two Battlefury's and his cleave attack is stronger than his targeted attack.
2. Luna - For reasons stated above
3. Nerubian Assassin - Vendetta + Dagon = free kill.
@ syntax error -- i have no idea where sound files for the killing sprees came from.
@funktastic and his Bnet buddy -- well, i play on US east, and i'm also on shit wifi, so i already lag a lil as it is. i'll add you and see if youre on in the next day or two, but you'll probably not want me to play with you because i'll be lagging out. we'll see.
