Game Debate to the Death!<br>Blizzard Battle 2006 photo

Our Blizzard Battle of 2006 continues and approaches its end. Which two games will make it to the final round? Not Lost Vikings! Last week we put all three WarCraft games and their expansions up against just StarCraft and its Brood Wars expansion. Here were the results:

  • StarCraft: 27 votes - winner!
  • WarCraft I, II, & III: 6 votes

As expected, StarCraft proved to be the most acclaimed of all the RTS games, leaving a WarCraft game just one more chance at going to the finals. Here's this week's debate: World of Warcraft versus Diablo II. Yes, include all expansions and money involved. As always, weigh all the pros and cons, pick which game you enjoyed the most, tell us why, and get some friends of yours to vote too!

Check back next week to find out which game will go head-to-hydralisk-head against StarCraft in the final round of Dtoid's Blizzard Battle 2006.

I'm actually not sure how to vote yet. I have played both games very little - never allowed myself to play it a ton cuz i know i'd get hooked. WOW is HUGE, but does cost money per month, whereas D2 was free online play. Collecting things in D2 was more fun, but the feel of WOW (graphics style, plus actual type of setting) appealed a lot more to me.

I have to go with WOW - I think in one week's timespan I could enjoy D2 far more than any one week in WOW, but WOW will continue to get updates forevers and foreverz. Plus, i honestly do think I could get tired of playing Diablo 2. Even WOW's camera makes it more immersive. Damn, now I want to play WOW real bad..

my vote - WOW

My vote goes to Diablo II.

My vote goes w/ Diablo II. It is rare that a game hooks me like Diablo II. It's one of the few games I play where I say to myself 'one more dungeon, one more level, one more item, oh God it's 3:00 AM and I started playing at noon!'. I have more hours in Diablo II than I have in masturbation, and that says something I think (don't ask me what, though).

Diablo II has endless playability, free online play, and it's easy to just pick up and start playing.

Warcraft 3, Diablo 2 is a click fest which I had a Lan where we played it for 8 Solid hours to which my fingers got sore.

WoW. I like D2 a lot, but if I played them both straight for a month, I'd get incredibly bored of D2. WoW kept my attention for almost an entire year. But then again, I had no friends. Hahah.

Diablo II. Its skill system, random item generation and much faster learning curve/progress rate beat the hell out of WoW.

WarCrack ftw, but I do say, that Blizz needs to go back to the free online play. Subscription costs are lame. omgwtfbbq attack.

Poor, hungry church mice like me vote for Diablo II. However, that's not the only reason D2 gets my vote. I swear to God, that game is my salvation when I have nothing else I feel like playing. I could be bored of playing every single other game on the planet, but I'd still have a hell of a time rounding up a few friends and playing D2 online with them. LOD expansion required of course.

Without LOD, my vote would go to WoW, even if I haven't played it yet. Speaking of which, Fronz, did you know Ron finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the game? Now he's complaining because he has to deal with a bunch of character customization options and can't just run around "hitting motherfuckers and stealing their swords."

Diablo II FOR THE WIN
Because it's cheap and polished, and it's still fun to play through a decade later. I'm probably going to start another game right now.

World of Warcraft gets incredibly dull for me somewhere around level 30. After I tried all the character classes and had my main one around there, I cancelled my subscription and haven't really thought about it since then. It was fun while it lasted though.

Why is this even a debate. They are completely different games. D2 is a point and click hack and slash. WoW is a gigantic MMO that has the absolute most players of any MMO in the history of gaming with out any debate. They have extremely different play styles, and extremely different themes. Its like asking if Mario or Halo is better. That would be fucking retarded to do.

Hot damn Diablo II. Give poppy a MMO Diablo and he will be a happy man. I was talking with my buddy today about starting a false online rumor on a MMO Diablo just in hopes of inspiring the Blizzard bitches into creating one!

D2 by far, WoW is too time consuming while D2 provides a form of satisfaction that can be achieved in a matter of hours, not days/months/years.

Have to say that I like Diablo II, that P.O.S. WoW has sapped too much time from people without it being %100 fun all the time...too many times does Blizzard make you run around doing the same stupid shit all the time in WoW....

Diablo II

As much as I love WoW, and as proud as I am of my 18-hour marathons, none of my WoWness compares to my love for D2 past and present. It's easy to get into, easy to kick ass in, easy to have a hell of a lot of fun. I played that game for a good 40+ hours once when I first got it, desperate to reach Diablo and kick his ass.

If they'd release a patch to iron out most of the remaining kinks and finally resolve some of the crazy server lag that still exists for a six-year-old 2D game, I'd probably still be playing on a near-daily basis.

i dont think i could ever count the amount of hours i poured into diablo 2. my buddy and i had so many good characters. it wasnt long before we only did hardcore chars, cause softcore was boring. i will never forget my lvl 78 'zon. she was a PvP machine. never lost a duel, she retired 12-0. but seriously, what other game had the balls to make it so that you die once and your character gets deleted? i wanna see an MMO do that!
